Hey Carla; i know that this might sound strange, but when I spend money on products, I will cut about a third of the way down the tubes, and yes, some plastic bottles. I learned this trick from a super wealthy friend, who does not waste her expensive products. There is always a LOT of produce in the tubes and bottles. Then i just use the top third as the lid to fit it over the bottom portion with some cling film. My friends laughed at me, but I've noticed that they now do the same😂. There is usually another 2 weeks of product left in the tube or bottle. Dont judge; products are too expensive, and although I can afford it, im just not into waste. 😅
Yes!! I’ve done this with my la Roche posay body lotion.. cut the top off, but then the lotion gets dry and tacky., but I do love a good glass jar, so I’m sure I can scoop it out and transfer it and use the rest of it up. Thanks for the reminder!
Yes! I was internally screaming when she tossed too many bottles as finished while at least 2-3 times worth of product still left at the bottom. I know it was content’s sake cuz we all relax when some things are decluttered 😅 still I hope she used them all the way down after she has the footage 😁
Maintenance decluttering is so much easier than having to go through years of accumulation. I typically will go through every area of my house about once a year. High traffic areas like the kitchen I will do more often.
G/F, you got me INSPIRED after watching your bathroom clean out. I just got finished cleaning, decluttering my bathroom and bathroom dressing area. I CLEANED, SCRUBBED, DECLUTTERED everything NOT glued down. Got rid of 8 more items ( 38 total in 2 months). I put out 2 new toothbrushes for the new year, scrubbed the shower curtain with mildew cleaner, wiped down bathroom walls, counters. Cleaned mirrors, all my bathroom containers. My 2 bathroom areas are spotless. Also, washed all bathrooms rugs, swept both floors, mopped. It took me almost an hour and a half but I got it done for the New Year. Now, Im starting iny bedroom.😂

for the medicine cabinet, it looks like rust has stained it. Bar Keeper's Friend - make a paste and let it sit before scrubbing. it will come off! This also works for blue/green rust stains from copper pipes
A jeweler once advised me not to store jewelry in the bathroom because the high humidity damages it. Perhaps you should reconsider whether there is a better place in your apartment so that you can enjoy it for a long time.
I have used a piece of pretty wrapping paper as a liner for shelving in the bathroom for a quick fix. I clean cupbooards in January, during those Looooonnnnnggggg winter nights and watch You-tube videos! Love your decluttering videos!

I am on the decluttering journey. I am back at work today but I did clear out sauce bottles out of my fridge and things out of date! I feel lighter already. I will just do a little bit after work on certain day of the week.

Today I did my bathroom and my hall closet which is toiletries and linens and cleaning supplies. I gave about 90-100 items for donation. About 5 things for trash. I had done outdated medications about a month ago so not a lot there. Now I know what I have and where it is!
I have a medicine cabinet from the 1960s 😂 I just used contact paper to cover the inside & I even covered the glass shelves since they were chipped. It's still old, but looks much better now👍😊🎉
i found it fascinating since i only keep shampoo a roll of toilet paper and a cleaning item in a tiny shared bathroom. It has been a couple months since i last went through everything that corresponds to health and beauty, my biggest problem with the category is not having a dedicated space for it all, but i have a small bag for trips for basics like toothbrush, tòoth paste, razor, jabon zote, and sunblock. but no where to store largèr bottles of mouthwash and cleaning supplies or extras.

Happy 2024! I did my bathroom a couple of months ago and it's been pretty well maintained! I did find about 5 items that wandered into my bathroom that needed to be rehomed. I think I threw one thing away! I'm feeling pretty accomplished lol! I've been decluttering my kitchen cabinets *again*. My oldest daughter is on a kind of strict diet to determine if she has any allergies. I've had to declutter 6 grocery bags full of food! I am also noticing things we don't use enough (like muffin tins, etc) that I'm going to remove as well. I'm loving all of the empty spaces in my cabinets!
Maintenance is so important in life. I think people think decluttering is a one and done because of shows - before and after is so satisfying. But keeping up with it is what keeps the problem from coming back. Carla, I feel like your routines are working for you. It's okay to do a once in a while declutter instead of keeping up with it daily. When I got back on the bandwagon in the fall of 22, I started in my bathroom. It's great because there isn't a lot of sentimental clutter in there and it's such a quick win that I got to see several times a day whenever I was in there. ❤
A few days ago got a clog in bathroom sink. So needless to say, had to take out everything from under the sink. Wow! Lots of items we forget about and had to go through it. Don't wait for a clog, such a mess. Thank you for being vulnerable and inspiring us.
I’m from NYC, and the apartment I was in before I moved to CA had a medicine cabinet just like that. I bought a new one, exactly the same- and swapped it out. Before I moved out, I put the old one in (I stored in my dad’s garage 😬) i sold the one I bought from Home Depot on Craigslist.

YES‼️I love these videos, I literally get up now and start decluttering my bathroom when I start watching the video. My closet is in the bathroom so I do the closet too. 17 items (3-given away-mini lotion samples my niece loves, 1-bag, repurposed for a grocery store bag). So I told myself I need to use up my eye makeup remover before I buy anymore eye makeup remover pads. I also decluttered those hard lip liners that drag your lips into next year 🤭👄 and a couple clothing items. Does anyone have one of those motorized facial cleansing brushes you bought and never used…let’s just say I doubled cleansed tonight…lol 😂 Happy Decluttering 😊

One thing I did with my mother in laws house when I was getting it ready to sell it, was take some peel n stick tiles for bathrooms (I used wood looking ones) to put on the bottom of her bottom cabinet. It added a sharp new look, strengthened the floor inside, and made it simple to clean up if it needed it. Also, it was easy to cut with scissors 🙂. Great video. Makes me want to go pull out everything in my bathroom! Thanks for your series!

What if you got a vanity for your room that had a hair tool caddy? Then you could have all your hair/makeup/lotions organized with somewhere to sit and be luxurious Happy holidays! A fellow tiny bathroom owner we live in a 100 year old house so not a lot of space in the bathroom. I keep my makeup in my closet. I did a declutter of makeup before Christmas. Took them to Sephora they have a recycling box for old cosmetics.
You've done, and continue to do so much for your sister. Your kindness as you help her move forward is amazing. Patience could be your middle name. I'm 64, and over the years, we accumulate as well as I've been given things from my deceased parents. We also have family living with us as your sister does. As they move forward in their lives and move into their own place, our home will greatly decrease regarding all the stuff. Having said that, I've decimated my things in a positive way. I have a long way to go, but our home is very livable. I'm a retired CMA as well as an advanced. May I say your skin is amazing. Always be gentle with your skin as this will help issues. Soft suggestion, most of skin care has limited positive results. Always do your own research. Healthy eating and sunscreen early in life works wonders. Just my opinion.
If you want to do something special with your medicine cabinet, consider using a little sandpaper and then picking out a nice peel and stick wallpaper add some nice little surprise

I put contact paper over the dingy, dirty shelves of my medicine cabinet. I took the doors off so I could wrap the paper over the front and underneath the shelf, then put the doors back on.

I got two small acrylic clear drawers from Primark and I store my partner's contact lenses as he has two different ones. So he uses with no problems and easy access inside the cabinets.
Hi Carla! Happy New Year! So, your medicine cabinet. Maybe put a big piece of cardboard behind where you're spraying and try a can of spray paint? Or pop it out by those screws on either side and spray it. Maybe spray primer? Then a cool color? And, not to ADD more storage space, but years ago I started putting a shower curtain tension rod on the OTHER side of the tub, a couple inches away from the wall, and rested my shampoos, etc on it. They drip dry easier and it's SO much easier to keep things I need IN the shower. (Avoiding puddles and mold, etc.) I just LOVE your channel, I'm so glad I found you. I'm a pretty neat minimalist already, but your personality, voice and ideas have me waiting for your video. (Also, I finally got that monacle-on-a-chain Sherry had. LOVE IT!!! Jen Also, get that fave lip color back out of the trash and use ear sticks to get it out and apply. LOL
The past few months I've been on a mission to use up bathroom products, stuff I forgot I had or just got bored with, the last few drops of a serum, slivers of exotic soap I've been keeping for who knows why haha. It's so liberating! I have more space and don't feel wasteful because I used them, even the expired stuff (should be careful with those though).

This is so helpful! I have an old medicine cabinet like yours in our old apartment too, it looked the same, so I’m thinking of putting some of the pretty dollar store contact paper in it.
I love the content and motivation that comes from watching you in action. Something to note, I don’t know where your donation items are going but I’ve worked in a couple of shelters. We usually couldn’t give open products to residents, mainly bc we didn’t know if it was tainted and some times stuff was so old that it should’ve never been donated. We threw out so much stuff as soon as it came in.
I agree with the comment on painting the inside of the medicine cabinet. Mine is 50+ yrs old, and that's what I did, and it made a world of difference. You can even put a little clear contact paper in the bottom to protect it.
So inspirational! Made me want to go thrpugh my bathroom right away. What I liked most about your declutter is how many items your trashed because they were used up or almost gone! Love seeing when I finish an entire bottle of something I spent my hard earned money on- for once lol. You also make me wanna go to Ulta 😅

Makeup, sample lotions, items I got for free, hair products I haven't used in months, almost empty containers. Filled up a trash bag. It feels so much bigger in there!

Carla try some contact paper for the inside of the cabinet. You can get some almost anywhere or online there are tons of options . You could put it on the back part of the cabinet and flowing down the bottom, and also on the back side of the mirror. I did this to mine as it had some stains as well. Contact paper is my life saver in old apartments with things I can’t permanently change, designs help hide imperfections but you can get solid colors too

For your medicine cabinet you could try a cleaning stone! This works wonders for extremely baked-in grime and dirt, it removes it very easily. The brand is called Universal Stone AND it is eco friendly 😊 But I’m not too sure if the product in the US is the same as here in Germany
I had hideous stains in my medicine cabinet that I could not remove, so I painted. I touched up the inside and exterior of my medicine cabinet with white enamel paint. It looks great and it doesn’t look painted… no visible brush strokes. I can’t remember if I used a sponge or bristle brush.

I was thinking the same thing, the inside can be painted or maybe covered with contact paper. If painting, some kind of primer might be necessary.

I contact-papered the inside of my medicine cabinet with a grey faux grasscloth from Amazon. Makes me happy every time I open that door now.

A few days ago got a clog in bathroom sink. So needless to say, had to take out everything from under the sink. Wow! Lots of items we forget about and had to go through it. Don't wait for a clog, such a mess. Thank you for being vulnerable and inspiring us.
I do regular decluttering in all shared areas of our home and it really helps keep everything under control.

I’m from NYC, and the apartment I was in before I moved to CA had a medicine cabinet just like that. I bought a new one, exactly the same- and swapped it out. Before I moved out, I put the old one in (I stored in my dad’s garage 😬) i sold the one I bought from Home Depot on Craigslist.
@@mohenn22smith27I was thinking the same thing... But I think I would just paint it instead of going through the trouble. Unless of course you plan on staying for a while then it might be worth it buying a new one. Every time you open it you'll feel good and yes they're not that expensive.

YES‼️I love these videos, I literally get up now and start decluttering my bathroom when I start watching the video. My closet is in the bathroom so I do the closet too. 17 items (3-given away-mini lotion samples my niece loves, 1-bag, repurposed for a grocery store bag). So I told myself I need to use up my eye makeup remover before I buy anymore eye makeup remover pads. I also decluttered those hard lip liners that drag your lips into next year 🤭👄 and a couple clothing items. Does anyone have one of those motorized facial cleansing brushes you bought and never used…let’s just say I doubled cleansed tonight…lol 😂 Happy Decluttering 😊

One thing I did with my mother in laws house when I was getting it ready to sell it, was take some peel n stick tiles for bathrooms (I used wood looking ones) to put on the bottom of her bottom cabinet. It added a sharp new look, strengthened the floor inside, and made it simple to clean up if it needed it. Also, it was easy to cut with scissors 🙂. Great video. Makes me want to go pull out everything in my bathroom! Thanks for your series!

I had one idea but maybe its counterproductive to minimalism? What if you got a vanity for your room that had a hair tool caddy? Then you could have all your hair/makeup/lotions organized with somewhere to sit and be luxurious

A fellow tiny bathroom owner we live in a 100 year old house so not a lot of space in the bathroom. I keep my makeup in my closet. I did a declutter of makeup before Christmas. Took them to Sephora they have a recycling box for old cosmetics.
Perhaps get some pretty shelf lining for the medicine cabinet. I have the same issue and it does help a little to freshen it up
You've done, and continue to do so much for your sister. Your kindness as you help her move forward is amazing. Patience could be your middle name. I'm 64, and over the years, we accumulate as well as I've been given things from my deceased parents. We also have family living with us as your sister does. As they move forward in their lives and move into their own place, our home will greatly decrease regarding all the stuff. Having said that, I've decimated my things in a positive way. I have a long way to go, but our home is very livable. I'm a retired CMA as well as an advanced. May I say your skin is amazing. Always be gentle with your skin as this will help issues. Soft suggestion, most of skin care has limited positive results. Always do your own research. Healthy eating and sunscreen early in life works wonders. Just my opinion.

If you want to do something special with your medicine cabinet, consider using a little sandpaper and then picking out a nice peel and stick wallpaper add some nice little surprise

I put contact paper over the dingy, dirty shelves of my medicine cabinet. I took the doors off so I could wrap the paper over the front and underneath the shelf, then put the doors back on.
use white foil to fix the medizine cabinet. there is foil you can buy to foil doors and stuff - that would be perfect for it.

I got two small acrylic clear drawers from Primark and I store my partner's contact lenses as he has two different ones. So he uses with no problems and easy access inside the cabinets.

So, your medicine cabinet. Maybe put a big piece of cardboard behind where you're spraying and try a can of spray paint? Or pop it out by those screws on either side and spray it. Maybe spray primer? Then a cool color?
And, not to ADD more storage space, but years ago I started putting a shower curtain tension rod on the OTHER side of the tub, a couple inches away from the wall, and rested my shampoos, etc on it. They drip dry easier and it's SO much easier to keep things I need IN the shower. (Avoiding puddles and mold, etc.)
I just LOVE your channel, I'm so glad I found you. I'm a pretty neat minimalist already, but your personality, voice and ideas have me waiting for your video.

The past few months I've been on a mission to use up bathroom products, stuff I forgot I had or just got bored with, the last few drops of a serum, slivers of exotic soap I've been keeping for who knows why haha. It's so liberating! I have more space and don't feel wasteful because I used them, even the expired stuff (should be careful with those though).

This is so helpful! I have an old medicine cabinet like yours in our old apartment too, it looked the same, so I’m thinking of putting some of the pretty dollar store contact paper in it.

I love the content and motivation that comes from watching you in action. Something to note, I don’t know where your donation items are going but I’ve worked in a couple of shelters. We usually couldn’t give open products to residents, mainly bc we didn’t know if it was tainted and some times stuff was so old that it should’ve never been donated. We threw out so much stuff as soon as it came in.
I agree with the comment on painting the inside of the medicine cabinet. Mine is 50+ yrs old, and that's what I did, and it made a world of difference. You can even put a little clear contact paper in the bottom to protect it.
I'm a big fan of contact paper in my bathroom. So easy to clean and looks 👌 Might be worth trying in that cabinet?
I have an old medicine cabinet and it’s lined with contact paper, so are the drawers. Such an easy, inexpensive fix.

I decluttered just my bathroom dressing area last month and got rid of 30 items. Just junk I didn't use anymore. Perfumes do go bad.
I love your channel and did a bathroom declutter a few days ago. I looked at every item and made a decision to throw most things away. Makeup, sample lotions, items I got for free, hair products I haven't used in months, almost empty containers. Filled up a trash bag. It feels so much bigger in there!

Carla try some contact paper for the inside of the cabinet. You can get some almost anywhere or online there are tons of options . You could put it on the back part of the cabinet and flowing down the bottom, and also on the back side of the mirror. I did this to mine as it had some stains as well. Contact paper is my life saver in old apartments with things I can’t permanently change, designs help hide imperfections but you can get solid colors too
Hi Carla, thank you giving me an idea of what to do with my razors! I have a bag of brand new razors in a bag in my bathroom drawer. Seeing how awesome you have everything organized, I got an idea to go to Dollar Tree to find a small clear draw for my razors to put in the drawer. Thanks again!! 😊
For your medicine cabinet you could try a cleaning stone! This works wonders for extremely baked-in grime and dirt, it removes it very easily. The brand is called Universal Stone AND it is eco friendly 😊
But I’m not too sure if the product in the US is the same as here in Germany

I had hideous stains in my medicine cabinet that I could not remove, so I painted. I touched up the inside and exterior of my medicine cabinet with white enamel paint. It looks great and it doesn’t look painted… no visible brush strokes. I can’t remember if I used a sponge or bristle brush.

I’m constantly cleaning out and passing along bathroom items to my niece. I know she’s sick of it even though she says she’s not. 😂. But she’s still willing to accept, so I keep on giving. I always think I’ve declutterred my bathroom “finally”, but…nope. 😂. I’ll get there one day! 😊
