I've been saving up for note grabber and serato. Should get them both early next year, God's grace. Please do you have videos covering mixing/leveling beats in FL?
Definitely. Never really been a fan of Swizz's style to be honest. To me he might be one of the most overrated producers of his time. But hey, that's just me.
One thing ppl really got realize is just how crazy 96 chops was in 2001. On an MPC at that. Finetuning each chop to the perfection Blaze did was no simple task at all. Even in recreating it with Serato you can hear its slightly off. Blaze went to science class with this.
As a Student of Dilla and Premo Each sound even within a loop is its own puzzle piece is how I look at sampling. Shifting chopping extracting is really fun. Blaze is a Master of this. Thank you Navie for the breakdown. Your work is mad respected!!!
Swizz has always been overrated to me. People always give him credit for DMX's first album, which in my opinion was easily his best album, but that was almost all done by Dame Grease. He had only Ruff ryders anthem which is one of the simpler beats on that album
So far everytime u have Just Blaze vs someone in this series, he always takes the W for me. No wonder i loved his beats when i was younger, dudes a genius
Just blaze was just using basic mpc sampling techniques of the era. Time consuming but the payoff is a more unique beat even if another producer used the same sample. that’s what made just blaze dope. He spent time surgically cutting up his samples and then sewed them up together into his own creation.
I remember trying to Breakdown Girls, Girls, Girls and finding out the beat is constructed of 4 different 4 bar loops. Just is an animal on the boards fr.
Man Swizz lol, i didn't know he struggled at sampling because he was so great at drums and percussion. Dude pioneered the snap roll pattern, thats an incredible redeeming quality
Not only did Just Blaze do a better job from a *technical* standpoint with all the chops and rearranging, stylistically he did a better job matching the mood of the concept and lyrics of the artist for which the beat was intended. Both beats sound good, but Just Blaze's melancholic rendition perfectly matches Jay's lyrics. Swizz's rendition sounds good too, but doesn't match the concept of the song as well as Just Blaze's version because of the heavy kick drum and fast high hats, which gives his beat a more uptempo, exciting vibe despite the fact that the concept of the song is just as somber as Jay-Z's.
Damn just blaze just changed the way im finna chop samples 🔥🔥🔥 i always lose motivation bc the song sometimes has things like this song where repeating a chop works better rhan letting it play out 👍🏿
NO ID is my favorite of all time. He is a master at manipulating samples. He taught Kanye west. Check out the samples he made on Common's "the dreamer, the believer" album.
Just blaze is single handedly is the reason I started producing music. After I heard lord knows being a church drummer myself I said that’s it I’m producing music now lol
Don’t get me wrong, he’s a legend and his earlier DMX stuff is great, but he’s not as technically skilled as some of the other producers I hold in high regard. He always uses the same drum pattern. On the “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem” song, he basically uses the JV-3080 sound module demo preset and added drums.
its not that the sample is not on time but back then music( or at least music that is not programmed) had diff parts with diff chords different tempo vibe and feeling even different time signatures. there is still music that has that live feel ofc but not in modern popular music, in this case modern rap/trap. thats not always a bad thing tho that can also be a characteristic of this type of music, super loud robotic agressive repetitive and hypnotizong. for me the most difficult thing about making music thats gonna be recorded or manipulated on a daw with a grid and metronome is actually make this different parts and different samll tempo changes (and the swing and velocity ofc) thats also the fun part, making it feel more live if the beat or song needs it. great video!!!!
I tried the 14 day trial but I literally never got to use the plugin because the trial expired before I even installed it. I didn't realize the trial starts the day you download it.
I thought Fruity released a new plug on the lowski. This is a Note Grabber commercial. And thats cool and as a matter of fact, well executed. I say that because I think I'm going to purchase it. This is a plug-in that the beat game has been waiting for. I was a drum major my sophomore year in highschool - I know music theory. This jon right here though. It could level the playing field for many talented informally trained producers and wannabe's.
Please Do show me what you got. There were 3 flips of the same sample that came out that same year. Diddy had one and I believe lil brother had another
I think you highlight something a bit tragic with hiphop these days. In the bling era (2000's) before Michael Jackson died.. CD's were still the music industries financial bread and butter. Now with so much musical volume bring put out, and only receiving a fraction of the profits through streaming, it's a bit redundant to put that Just Blaze level of detail into production. Unfortunately, Music comes and goes now more than ever. No knock to Swizz either because I've heard him create some nasty instrumentals that are well thought through.. but yeah, his flip was mid. We need some Akira level projects that go so far above and beyond, that consumers are inspired to demand that AAAA grade quality again
1st, Just Blaze won that beat battle they had years ago. Swizz just played a dope record no one ever heard before ‘Bathsalt’ (HOV, X, & Nas). Yea, so swiss did sample, he didnt sample records, he sampled the auditions of sounds and performance that were in sound modules and keyboards hence the lawsuit brought against him by Roland. So in the late nineties and early 2000’s sound modules and keyboards had an audition button you could press to hear the sound and it played a piece pre programmed using that sound, and that’s what Swizz jacked. He didnt chop it and flip it, he jacked it straight up. In short, Swizz is really corny if you look at it.
What's your new years resolution?
Is it to try noteGRABBER maybe?
def gonna get it when i can
I've been saving up for note grabber and serato. Should get them both early next year, God's grace. Please do you have videos covering mixing/leveling beats in FL?
We need a just blaze producer beakdown
Swizz is arguably , the worst producer in bigleagues
@DEUSVULT822 swizz vs Jermaine dupri
You know full well, Jus Blaze won this by far. Not even close.
This is true
Facts 😂😂
Exactly what I came to say 😅 swizz is still a legend too tho
⛪️
Definitely. Never really been a fan of Swizz's style to be honest. To me he might be one of the most overrated producers of his time. But hey, that's just me.
I had no idea the Just Blaze beat was so intricate. Genius level sampling!
One thing ppl really got realize is just how crazy 96 chops was in 2001. On an MPC at that. Finetuning each chop to the perfection Blaze did was no simple task at all. Even in recreating it with Serato you can hear its slightly off. Blaze went to science class with this.
you get it
Ppl just don’t realize it’s 96 chops cause of how smooth the beat is. I never heard someone say 96 chops is easy.
there was only a-d pad banks back then, so only 64 chops per program… means he had use more than one program, man was dedicated to that sample chop!
Impossible, same with dilla, he also used to used hella chops
Just Blaze is a genius no doubt. He is a great sampler
This is very true
Man Just Blaze is a damn genius. Imagine doing this on hardware too… the fact you recreated this is insane as well
Yep. On a little screen too. Dude knew that machine backwards and forwards. A master at the instrument imo.
I'm calling it Just Blaze even before I watch the video. Edit: Def Just Blaze.
lol I was gonna write this exact same comment
this
Beat me to it 🤷🏾♂️
Just Blaze is the most underrated producer in the history of the game.
I've always had him in my top ten greatest hip hop producers
The problem is people like Kanye and bink been running around saying nonsense and people been failing for it.
@@djnes2k7 I don't understand the Kanye hype. He's ok
@@djnes2k7 facts
💯
the shaker cutting off in beat 1 right before the snare hits so hard. plus that classic sub bass is so bouncy
Yeah that's a style of bassline you don't really hear much of anymore.
I’m convinced just blaze moonlights as the Dream
As a Student of Dilla and Premo Each sound even within a loop is its own puzzle piece is how I look at sampling. Shifting chopping extracting is really fun. Blaze is a Master of this. Thank you Navie for the breakdown. Your work is mad respected!!!
WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO SWIZZ? LMAO
I didn't do anything! I merely just showed what he did
@@NavieDor lack there of.
😂😂😂💯
Swizz has always been overrated to me. People always give him credit for DMX's first album, which in my opinion was easily his best album, but that was almost all done by Dame Grease. He had only Ruff ryders anthem which is one of the simpler beats on that album
The first couple Ruff Ryder's albums had some banger beats in them as well.
So far everytime u have Just Blaze vs someone in this series, he always takes the W for me. No wonder i loved his beats when i was younger, dudes a genius
96 CHOPS on an MPC 4000 screen, I am in AWE!
Just blaze is very underrated. Definitely one of the best sample producers. Roc a fella having him and Kanye at that time was making classics all day.
hydrogen bomb VS coughing baby
Just blaze was just using basic mpc sampling techniques of the era. Time consuming but the payoff is a more unique beat even if another producer used the same sample. that’s what made just blaze dope. He spent time surgically cutting up his samples and then sewed them up together into his own creation.
That and live sounding drums and breaks… he wasn’t a 4 bar producer
I wouldn't even know Swizz made that song if his vocals weren't on it. Great breakdown.
U the goat bruh, woudnt be making beats if it wasnt for your vids
Bless you J!
Same man.
Love you Freaky D!❤❤❤Make a tutorial on how to make gritty drums next
Sir yessir!
I thought he had😂
Your sample is tough, but the Jus Blaze is such a classic and iconic track it's hard to say his isn't the one!!
Thanks! Much appreciated. 🤲🏾
Edit: your rendition is knocking as well!!
8:38 Busta looking back at Swizz lol.
Just Blaze is literally a Scientist.
Song cry one the best beats ever.
great comparison video bro, could you please and I beg please make a video about RZA because I don’t think you made a full video about him
I remember trying to Breakdown Girls, Girls, Girls and finding out the beat is constructed of 4 different 4 bar loops. Just is an animal on the boards fr.
More Just Blaze beat breakdowns!
I am so happy you put in the clip of Swizz actin a damn fool 😂
Blaze owns this sample flip.... Swizz did good but you my friend did a fantastic job with your approach on it!!!
Man Swizz lol, i didn't know he struggled at sampling because he was so great at drums and percussion. Dude pioneered the snap roll pattern, thats an incredible redeeming quality
There is no versus. Difference styles and different brains. I love both producers. Music is subjective not objective.
Bro, 96 chops!!!! Who does that?!?!?! Enough said...
Man, Just Blaze is a genius!🙌🏾👑
Just Blaze is so underrated!
All three are great in their own right.
I wish Blaze would produce a full album with a west coast artist
Or any artist better than Saigon lol
@
I don’t really know his music, but I know of him
@@3COIagreed! That album had amazing beats Saigon wasn’t worthy of any of them lol

1:16 now I know why Kanye and Bink! Can't stand Just Blaze. It all makes sense lol
Ngl I think your version could very well be the best to me but really comes down to how you arrange it.
Damn just blaze just changed the way im finna chop samples 🔥🔥🔥 i always lose motivation bc the song sometimes has things like this song where repeating a chop works better rhan letting it play out 👍🏿
Swizz Beat Started Sampling Roland JV-2080 demo songs. press the volume knob on selects sounds preset and you'll hear it.
It will always be Just Blaze, because Swizz has a very acquired taste most of the time.
Happy new year Navie!! Can’t wait till notegrabber 2!
Just Blaze is a genius like J dilla was
Before I watch this...this is an unserious comparison. Love the channel tho.
Edit: Your beat slaps.
Shiiii I want your rendition, was super dope
You should break down some kenny segal beats, especially his albums wit Billy Woods
I alway felt that the shaker was from Ma$e's song 'Tell Me What You Want'.
I noticed that Just Blaze used that layering technique on "I Really Mean It" as well
If you haven’t done a breakdown video on how to use Serato sample you should!!! if not, I’m sorry for not checking your library
96 sample chops is crazy .. you killed that tho
Yours was definitely cut out of the 36 Chambers book bro 🔥
This alone shows why just blaze was one of jays best producers
wondering if you could do something on boom bap bass? trying to find the right one that doesn't need a ton of processing is a nightmare
Swizz is a tad overrated in my opnion.
Who do you think is underrated

Dude
That beat you made sounds like something off a Biggie album for sure ala Hitmen 💪🏾💪🏾
Ik there are problems with copyrights but it would be really nice if the full beats were played after each breakdown
You can play them yourself 😂
Also the fact that Blaze used the MPC instead of a DAW is just phenomenal 🔥🔥
For me both did great job , just blaze has a complicated style and swizz is a simple but classy one , i like both
Fam you gave that sample such a dark feel...dope. Just's beat makes for a better song, your joint makes for a better boom bap cypher type record.
Tory lanez also sampled it on Benevolent on Memories Dont Die😅

Those sound like the drum from "Dead Wrong"
You wanna share that song cry bass sample 👀?
Blaze is on a different level when it comes to samples
This isn’t fair to compare Swizz is cooked
“hydrogen bomb vs crying baby” type of comparison 😭
Also Keep in mind, Jay spit all of his verse to a skeleton track (just the drums) and Just added the sample in post production.
Every time I prefer your techniques but this time Just Blaze. Awesome episode

technically just blazed just did long form time stretching in order to get the transients on beat
When I knew Just Blaze was fire was when I listened Kingdom Come by Jay Z. Still one of the best samples I’ve heard.
I ain’t started the vid yet but I can’t see Swizzy making a better sample beat than Just Blaze!
Thanks to Marley Marl his the first to start chopping samples. I do believe
Check into Marley Marl
Good video 🙂
Let’s just say blaze over all. Yet you over swizz.
Great video, i love watching these breakdowns.
Great video Navie keep em coming,,, I think Just Blaze got that 1
I think you should have did cojiba by black thought produced by 9th wonder and compared it to just blazes throwback for usher
Beautiful, your beat. Just Blaze Won.
I don't think they should be placed in the same sentence. Just Blaze obliterated this hehe
I saw the thumbnail, the title, and I laughed.
I'm my opinion the last Fire Beat Swizz made was On to the next one for Jay Z 🫠
