Rewatching all of the videos to support the new channel, this episode reminded me of how much I want a The World Ends With You Lore Dump and am mildly saddened it wasn't on the 2023 list xD
I'm amazed how early they are able to pick up on the big hints to future secrets almost as soon as the concepts get introduced. Especially guessing that the plot needed 13 villains an 7 keyblade wielders.
One thing to notice and remember when it comes to Braig being half-xehanort.... If you look in BBS at braigs eyes during the aqua fight vs when you first meet him...They go from brown to yellow. Very likely offscreen master X put some xehanort juice into him back in BBS. Not that any of it makes sense and cant be retconned anyway.
Not sure if you guys found this out, but Christopher Lee only voiced Ansem the Wise in KHII and Days. He had to back out due to health issues and was played in all subsequent games by Corey Burton. As for other cast changes, Kairi was voiced by Hayden Panettiere in KHI, KHII and BBS and is now voiced by Alyson Stoner, the original voice of Xion. Namine was voiced by Brittany Snow in KHII and Meghan Martin in every other game. Xion was actually voiced by Alyson Stoner in Days, before being switched for Hayden Panettiere in BBS and DDD, before going back to Stoner for KHIII.
Also when Leonard Nemoy passed away after KH3 but before Re:Mind, Christopher Lloyd did old man Xehanort for Re:Mind (possibly Melody of Memory too? I haven't played it).
I think Xehanort has the obsession with Riku because of how similar they were. Powerful hearts chosen to be keyblade weilders who wanted that life of adventure off their world, but weren't afraid of the Darkness. But because Riku had such strong connections to Kairi and Sora as a child and growing up, he was just different enough from Xehanort who didn't have friends until he was a later teenager. I think he finds Riku fascinating how they were so alike and yet he chose a path which rejected darkness except as a tool.
Think perhaps the power of the heartless is based on how much darkness is in the person’s heart to begin with, which is why villains get giant heartless, which doesn’t inherently make someone with a strong will who would have a powerful nobody, as someone who would have a strong heartless.
RE: Mickey stopping time and Riku still moving: This appeared as a game mechanic in Chain of Memories. I don't know about the remake, but in the original, Sora could catch Donald and Goofy cards, and sometimes others depending on the world he's in (Like Jack in Halloween town) to use them as summons, while Riku only had access to the Mickey cards, which would freeze time, and sometimes do other useful stuff in boss fights (EG: making a big rock fall into the arena when fighting maleficent, so you can stand on it and more easily hit her head and avoid some attacks).
I'm going to add the same comment to this video as to the original, because I was proud of it: Chase: Riku wants to know where Mickey is. He wants to know where his boyfriend is. Fan fic writers everywhere: ...I feel a disturbance in the fanverse.
The beginning scene is not post kh2. Its a flashback sequence which takes place before hollow bastian falls to darkness and is around the time Ansem the wise gets banished to the dark realm and the other apprentices become nobodies for the first time.
Yen Sid: "It's a problem that as Keyblade wielders you are self-taught." *(proceeds to reset their Keyblade skills and make them teach themselves again)*
He will! In 2023 we’re looking at other games and he’s going to to be the narrator for 3 episodes. We found a franchise Chase hasn’t played and Neil LOVES
We will also continue with KH, but waiting for new games to come out because we’re caught up so giving Chase a well deserved break from leading an episode until then
This series is giving me all sorts of revelations, even as a long time Kingdom Hearts fan. For example, I just realized that Ventus gave Lea a ceremony of initiation when he bashed him upside the head with his Keyblade in Radiant Garden. Light in the hearts of children, and all that. That said, I don't believe Chase is actually right about that "no ceremony necessary" bit because Keyblades automatically teleport out of the hands of anyone who doesn't own them, but it's a funny thought. Kairi's Keyblade situation has always been nonsensical.
Also, remember Kairi's Heart was inside Sora's for a while. And Sora obtained the ability by touching the Light in Riku's heart. This implies that if your Heart has been in someone who can Wield, the possibility for you to Wield is passed to you.
I played TWEWY because of this video. Chase's absolute praise got me to finally buy the game! Now, if you could explain it, that would be great! Thanks for the recommendation! One of the best games I've ever played!
Get F@@ked Aragorn is a sweet baby boy and I won’t hear a word against him is gonna live rent free in my heart for all time 😂 thank all three for this show I can’t not express how much this show makes my days better
7 is lucky number and 13 is unlucky number, that's probably the real reason why those numbers were chosen. The last bit with Riku in Sora's heart had quite a few call backs to earlier games. The 3 questions asked are the same as the start of KH 1. The Ansem the Wise part has to do with KH 2, remember that the last time he asked who Riku was Riku replied with "Ansem".
"Imagine going from 2 to 3 without any of this as so many people did!" Meanwhile, millions of players happily enjoying KH3 without knowing any of this and going off to make a coffee while the anime people shout about world domination.
Hell yeah, TWEWY. My favourite game of all time! I honestly think it made me a better person, 'cause I really connected with the main character, and then it's made pretty clear that he's an anti-social PoS.
1:23:22 me started with ddd and didn’t finish couldn’t beat symphony of sorcery then moved on to 3 only after beating going to one not finishing and then beating ddd
The Sora's dream segment, where we saw Namine, Roxas, Xion and the rest of them makes me cry everytime. I think the first time I played it I yelled "Why did it have to be you Sora? Why couldn't it be my precious boy and girl?!"
A note because it keeps coming up the beach they're on in destiny islands could easily just be ln the other side of the island hince why you can't see the main island from it because it looks out to the rest of the ocean
I will at least give 3D credit and point out that "the goal of the organization was *never* to give the members hearts" is only *half* a retcon, while the motive of "turning everyone into xehanort" is a retcon, we did know as far back as the 358/2 secret reports that Xemnas had never planned to use Kingdom Hearts to help his underlings (albeit at that time his motivation was "fuse with kingdom hearts to become an ascended being to further his plans"). Also, fuck Yen Sid
My favorite game overall, mostly because it’s a game about dreams on the 3DS like my favorite Mario & Luigi game! Also how gay it is haha 😂 I always liked the headcanon that the Org’s Heartless were bosses since their hearts were so strong. The flowmotion mechanics look really fun! Not the drop mechanic, though, it’ll be annoying. Sora and Riku’ dream world clothes are my favorite outfits in the entire series. I love Lea’s Keyblade being a combination of the Frolic Flame and Bond of Flame Keyblades from Birth by Sleep and II respectively. On the note of Keyblades, did you know the keychain on the combined Keyblade during the reality shift in the WTNW has a Paupu fruit on it? You know, the symbol of connection and most often romantic love? I’d heard of TWEWY before but I’ve never played it, I’m sure it’s amazing. I might watch a playthrough at some point. I adore the Dream Eaters, especially the Nightmare Necho Cat and Spirit Komory Bat. I don’t know what else to write lol
I find it frankly incredible that KH2 is almost entirely irrelevant and is basically a side story and all these other games on disparate consoles are essential to the plot. KH2 genuinely could be the end of the series considering how much of a wrap it feels like at the end, 358/2 could still be there as an inessential but lovely side story to round it all out like Chain of Memories, but seriously the wheels really seem to come of after KH2. Don't get me wrong this series is always entertaining but the loops you have to jump through to just understand the stakes and the conflict in KH3 is ridiculous. The story of KH the series is not complex, it is convoluted. It rewards attention and understanding yes but still somehow manages to be skin deep, it's a YA story for 12-14 year olds stretched out to impossible lengths that is frankly exhausting and so unendingly silly... And yet, I am compelled by the series to the point I'm still sitting through this explanation of a game I'll never bother to play in a series I can't bring myself to pick up again. It's such a bizarre product that latched itself into so many young people's psyche's; I remember thinking when I played KH1 back in 2002/2003 it felt so mature and awesome and deep because I was like 9 or 10 so I was obviously an idiot. I think for many years it coasted on the reputation of 'Disney games for older kids and teens that even grown ups can enjoy' until the whole thing got so bogged down in it's tapestry of bullshit people couldn't pretend anymore and had to admit: this series is inherently stupid. There's nothing wrong with that of course, I love stupid things especially when they're colourful. I think the games speak with a voice that infers emotional depth, but has nothing more to say than being nice to people and sticking by your friends when they're going through hard stuff is a good thing to do. Which is a totally valid and noble message to spread to young people and I love how earnestly these games depict friendship, it is genuinely lovely. Nomura should write about friendships and how they change and endure, it's his best stuff, all the talk about darkness and hearts and data and dreams and time travel and Xehanort's and Ansem's and a thousand other people with stupid names obscures what I think he's actually good at. Anyway, had to get that out before I get stuck back into this playlist and listen to how the stupidity only deepens, honestly it's so entertaining.
"This is a weird exposition world, after this the Disney worlds are fucking shit." Yeah, can't help but feel that's entirely just "I like this obscure game but not Disney" because this world sounds shiiiiiiit.

Thanks for being here! This episode is a reupload, transferring our backlog of Lore Dumps from the Monty Zander youtube channel.

3:32 'just a nice little design' the way i audibly gasped and said 'YOU ABSOLUTE LIAR' aloud
I'm amazed how early they are able to pick up on the big hints to future secrets almost as soon as the concepts get introduced. Especially guessing that the plot needed 13 villains an 7 keyblade wielders.
That scene in the beginning was not everyone reconstituting following II, it was the exact moments before Terranort becomes Ansem and Xemnas.
This!
Darkness darkness keyblades hearts?
SNORT. THE. NORT.
One thing to notice and remember when it comes to Braig being half-xehanort....

It's actually the power of Darkness. Aqua gets gold eyes too when she falls to darkness

Here’s to hoping we get a TWEWY Lore Dump in 2024
3:30 the way Monty cracked the twist 3 minutes in lmao

Listening to this at work and my full name is Joshua. I did a double take when Chase introduced him LOL
Watching along and as soon as the slide popped up at 1:55:31 the audible "No..." that I made when I realized what he was going to share.
RE: Mickey stopping time and Riku still moving: This appeared as a game mechanic in Chain of Memories.

1:51:03 finding a way to answer this after finishing kh3 without spoiling it or even *hinting* at the fact it's a kh3 spoiler is commendable
I'm going to add the same comment to this video as to the original, because I was proud of it:

I just need to say - Nomura did not write The World Ends with You, he's only the producer for the series.
“That’s just a gay Zubat!” is the best description of Komory Bat I’ve ever heard.
Yen Sid: "It's a problem that as Keyblade wielders you are self-taught." *(proceeds to reset their Keyblade skills and make them teach themselves again)*
Will Neil keep being in the podcast in non KH episodes? Bc he is really good at figuring this stuff out and is hilarious
He will! In 2023 we’re looking at other games and he’s going to to be the narrator for 3 episodes. We found a franchise Chase hasn’t played and Neil LOVES

I !!love!! how you swaped recoded post credits scene and DDD intro chronologically

Algorithm Comment: This video honestly is one of my faves, DDD is absolutely WILD and the way you all play off of that is really fun.
Get F@@ked Aragorn is a sweet baby boy and I won’t hear a word against him is gonna live rent free in my heart for all time 😂 thank all three for this show I can’t not express how much this show makes my days better
Didn't anyone forget Timeless River in KHII was basically time-travel
7 is lucky number and 13 is unlucky number, that's probably the real reason why those numbers were chosen.

Please, youtube algorithm give these fellas more traffic they're fantastic and deserve more subs for how good their content is!!❤
Thank you!
This was the hardest game for me to understand even after playing it so thank you Chase!
One hundred percent requesting a twewy Lore Dump. Chase...please?
"Imagine going from 2 to 3 without any of this as so many people did!"

1:13!50 we get lea’s name in bbs actually
I love how we have a trio of trios so far in the series lmao
He did and you should play it! Its fun!
Sora's child form is not actually explicitly tied to the dreams.
Sora becomes a zip file the game
The Sora's dream segment, where we saw Namine, Roxas, Xion and the rest of them makes me cry everytime. I think the first time I played it I yelled "Why did it have to be you Sora? Why couldn't it be my precious boy and girl?!"
I went into the comments to see if anyone posted this because I'm tearing up around 1:45:00!
This segment of DDD hits so hard after 358 and BBS.
A note because it keeps coming up the beach they're on in destiny islands could easily just be ln the other side of the island hince why you can't see the main island from it because it looks out to the rest of the ocean

It's the one winged angled sword lolz
If they nort ya, do you become a little bit norty?
To protect themselves from getting norted, they should have installed NortVPN

Pretty shocked that - as Monty put it - KH2 is useless narratively.
I appreciate you guys for breaking down the story so I don't have to play this shit game. I may play TWEWY tho since it's been so hyped up.
1:33:25 Has Sora been shopping at Balenciaga?
