    Please make a traveler character. It's practically a game by itself.

    Would you like to play COC with this character? Thinking about hosting a COC Podcast on my channel! I got an email if you'd like to talk about this idea more. Its going to be a Sandbox themed scenario mostly taking place in Arkham, Massachusetts.

      Maybe, but unlikely. I have a very busy schedule.

      Okay! Hey, would you mind making an ALIEN: The Roleplaying Game character? Would be interesting to see who you would come up with. Just be weary of big bad bugs!

    My main gripe with CoC as a whole is the oversaturation of skills. This makes both the initial selection of skills extremely long and easy to get lost in, and in addition practically guarantees that your Secrets Keeper will never or only once use most of the skills you invested in (If they allow you to roll at all. Mine didn't, most of the things just happened to my character with no rolls to avoid the negative outcome, just because they thought making an illusion convince our characters a ship is gone or having foreign influence invade our minds and force us to destroy a boat are too cool for something like a success at our check to ruin).

      Pro tip.
      Make your character in session zero with all the other players.
      That way everyone can make unique characters with different skills that only slightly overlap.

    Great tutorial! Hoping to start a Call of Cthulhu campaign set in the Mojave desert which was also inspired by West Marches! :D

    Assuming the cyberpunk/shadowrun marathon isn't in the cards right now, maybe give burning wheel or one of it's cousins (mouse guard or torchbearer) a go. If you are doing burning wheel, be sure to use the "gold revised" edition as the original version has some... unfortunate content in it that has not aged well and was removed.

    Care to elaborate on what you meant when you say the system is a bit more versatile and that d100 roll-under systems tend not to be?

    • @zigmenthotep
      @zigmenthotep  3 роки тому +2

      Roll-under percentile systems tend to be pass/fail, you can throw a modifier on there, but it's always awkward. The system here lets you easily say "Make a hard Library Use check," and it's a simple matter. It's still not as granular or flexible as other mechanics, but it's a step in that direction.

    • @JTMC93
      @JTMC93 3 роки тому +2

      @@zigmenthotep Most I have seen the modifier is either added/subtracted from the stat or subtracted/added to the dice result. That is the standard for all roll-under systems. Regardless of dice used.
      I agree the staged skill levels are nice. But a Roll-under system can be just as granular as a roll-over system. A d100 system of either type will have the same issues of math.
      Edit: And I am speaking as someone who is working on a d100 roll-over game.
      Edit2: And most game systems, including D&D, tend to have binary Pass/Fail. Pathfinder 2e is the only one I can remember in the d20 family that actually breaks that trend universally.

    Where can I get that percentile die, the one that’s basically a d10 with another d10 inside it

    • @zigmenthotep
      @zigmenthotep  3 роки тому +2

      Just search for "double d10" I don't actually remember where I got mine, but they're much more common now.

    hey! what's that new large dice with the little dice in it?!

    • @zigmenthotep
      @zigmenthotep  3 роки тому +5

      It's a large d10 with a tiny d10 inside it. I use it sometimes when I need to roll 2d10 but only feel like rolling one die.
