      Got done building a forge and drilled about 60 holes for rivets since its massive and the sheet metal i have is way too skinny and watched as my last drill bit was glowing before i could finnish the last holes

    My neurosurgeon used this method when drilling into my skull. It was rather painful; especially when clamping my head to the drill press ..
    but, he was able to thread the hole afterwards, to install a used drainplug from a small block V8.
    I had planned to say more ...
    but, I can't remember what it was about.

    As you said - tungsten doesn't expand much from heat. When you let it cool down, the steel shrunk and you had a really nice tight and strong shrink fitting there :)

      They say if you ever get a tungsten wedding ring stuck and need to get it off, don't try to cut it, just put some vice grips on it and keep doing a 1/4 turn or put it in a vice and slowly tighten. It will eventually just crack and fall off under the pressure without any harm to your hand.

    We used to use those to tap holes into 1" square metal tube in the school furniture industry back in the 90's. I loved doing it!
    You should do the whole process in one go, don't stop or it can cool down and weld up like you found out.
