They shot the show at Selhurst Park the home grounds of Crystal Palace. The ownership only asked that Crystal palace beat AFC Richmond in their first game. The show writers put in the 6-0 win for Crystal Palace as a thankyou.
The American saying is "A tie is like kissing your sister". You did something but no one is satisfied.
That makes sense 😂 thank you!
@@DNReacts So, Bob's your uncle!
Do you want to kiss your sister? NO Do you want a tie? No
@@Weinzierl1973 Well, in most states people don't want to..."Role tide"
This Alabama reference made me drop my phone. Although I was laughing that hard
"I promise you... there's something worse out there than being sad. And that's being alone and being sad. And none of you in her are alone." Absolute goosebumps EVERY time I hear it.
Gave me goosebumps too! Loved it
Ditto! I was so freaking lonely the first time I watched this and I recorded this speech so I could watch it as a reminder to stick with life...
Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent) is one of the main writers for the show; He's smart enough not to write himself out. LOL
Yeah don’t worry he’ll be back.
The story of how he became Roy Kent is pretty good. Mr. Goldstein believed in himself and he shot his shot.
@@brandonhall5615 yeah he’s Roy and he knew it
@@fayesouthall6604 ROY KENT He's Here, He's There, He's Every fucking Where. ROY KENT
He was lovely in Derek too
"The commentator" is Arlo White. Who was the Seattle Sounders TV play-by play commentator in their early days, until NBC hired him away to be the voice of the Premier League broadcasts in the US.
Beat me to it. Of course in the U.K. he worked on BBC Radio5
3:50 "Oops, innit?" 🤣Such a simple, yet hilarious line.
So good 😂😂
The thing I love about this series is that you think it's about soccer/football but, in reality, it's about people who are involved in soccer/football. Looking forward to your season 2 reaction!
Yeah the soccer takes a back seat to some amazing and hilarious storylines! We have just started season 3 on Patreon 😊 we love it!
"A tie is like kissing your sister" is an old American expression that was coined by some old football coach in the...50's, maybe? Basically the meaning is: kissing is great, but if it's your sister...it's not so great. Kind of hard to explain in words, but emotionally I think it gets its point across.
I thought of it as, yeah it’s a kiss. But nobody wins 😂
Thanks for this. I watched and rewatched Ted Lasso and never bothered to know what that expression meant. But now I do. 😊😊😊
Great catch on the fact that Ted had never sworn before. It's a tiny detail but speaks volumes.
Yeah it caught me off guard!
It's also the only time Ted ever considers quitting anything.
It also seems to be a direct nod to "Major League".
@@DurkMcGerk And not the only one. The scene where Roy head butts Jamie after a win and then hugs him is directly out of Major League where Beringer punches then hugs Bernsen.
You didn't show it... but when Ted jumps up when leaving Rebecca's office and hit his head on the doorframe, that was a real accident. After saying "I'm fine" Jason Sudekis starts bleeding badly from a gash in his scalp.
Oh wow, that’s crazy! Thank you for the info!
@@DNReacts He actually needed stitches. It's crazy. I love it when actors stay in character.
I used to follow AFC Richmond twitter account when the show was aired. I love how they always posted their upcoming match poster. And we all will hyped it up as if it's real. Some ppl will have prediction and all. Great moments on twitter for sure 😄
Come on season 2! I'm at home for the next 2 months recovering from surgery and look forward to yalls vids. Fucking love you guys!
Thank you so much! Hope you have a speedy recovery!! If you want them quicker then we’ve just started season 3 on our Patreon! Really appreciate the support 😀
I recently learned he left out 8 because that was the actual position Roy plays (not his shirt number), hence counting to 12 instead.
This really is the most wholesome show ever
"I love Nate!" Hahahahahahaha
Can't wait to see you guys react to Seasons 2 and 3! enjoy it, it's one of the best shows I've watched in the last 5 years!
We have just started season 3 on our Patreon 😀
i love how Keeley pours some of Jamies coffee into her cup that Roy made. small example of Keeley being a female version of Ted
I just wanted to say this UA-cam channel has quickly become one of my favorites... I found it through all of your baseball reactions and just fell in love with the passion/ knowledge you two show for the game....
Now with the Ted Lasso reaction my life has been made!!! Huge shout-out to the two of you!!
I love this show so much. 😊 Jamie thinks Ted is playing mid games but he soon realises that Ted is the father he needs. The soldier was carrying binoculars to show Jamie he sees him. FYI Jason did hit his head and they kept it in, stitches required. Ouch 😣
I seriously wish we had promotion/relegation in the US, but there's just not enough football here. I love MLS - I'm old enough to remember the years when the US didn't even *have* a 1st division league - but MLS these days really leans into the modern American model for sporting leagues. A city will not receive a league franchise without blueprints for a brand new multi-million dollar stadium in their pocket. Club owners spending that kind of money won't stand for relegation. OTOH, it's fantastic to rewatch this series with guys who know football! You're absolutely going to love Season 2. Cracking open a cheap American beer (the real 'pigeon sweat') for ya.
Also, You'll Never Walk Alone is Liverpool's song, but also is the corps song for the Madison Scouts drum & bugle corps here in the states. Our son marched two years with them and I get goosebumps every time I hear it for that reason.
Here's a link with Scouts playing it (along with Santa Clara Vanguard and Vanguard Cadets) in his first year marching with them: ua-cam.com/video/PtBvDOJfj6k/v-deo.html
This song is pretty old. Originally from a musical called Carousel. For many decades it was played and sung by late actor/comedian Jerry Lewis at the end of his Labor Day Telethon for Muscular Dystrophy. Not a dry eye ever!
I have recently found this channel and love your reactions. Not just to Ted Lasso but all the others as well. I would like to make a suggestion. Have you heard of MLB pitcher Jom Abbott? I think it would be cool to see you guys react to his story. He was born with only one hand but still made it to the big leagues.
Thank you so much, we really appreciate that! Thank you for the suggestion too
Even pitched a no hitter during his career and led the USA team to a gold medal in the Olympics.
@robhugh535 I wasn't gonna let them watch with out spoilers. Lol. But it is a pretty amazing story. Watching him play was pretty cool.
@DNReacts I just realized I misspelled his name. It's Jim not Jom
The quote "Win the whole f*cking thing" is an iconic quote from the baseball movie "Major League" about a down-and-out Major League Baseball team (the Cleveland Indians) with a very young Charlie Sheen. Definitely worth a reaction!
All 3 series opening shot and final shot are on a specific character. S1 is Rebecca. This series was centered around her development. You’ll find out next week which is the next character to play a major role in the next series. Which makes me want to ask- Why not binge the next 2 series??? lol
Yeah, Ted telling him way to make the extra pass and also giving him the army soldier to protect himself after seeing how his father treats him hit me pretty hard.
Amazing scene. Ted is such a great guy
Guys, in the US the show is the series and what you call the series we call the season.
Yeah we flick between the 2, they both mean the same thing over here
@@DNReacts Cool, I'm just picturing a flood of comments from confused people wondering why a new series when there's 2 seasons left, LOL. Glad you're enjoying Ted, tied with The Good Place in my favorites. Could we possibly get a your favorite: episode, main character & minor character(s) mention at the start of the next one? Thanks for doing this show
In the U.K. we flip between the two. Like cm and inches.
I love Watching ted lasso with you guys. I specifically like watching the best of highlights because watching you guys react and laugh at roy's lines is just as funny as the lines themselves. 😊
So glad you enjoy watching with us! Roy is hilarious, we love him! 😀
Ofcourse I got teary eyed once again lol.
Great Reaction.
Same time next week 😳
He skipped 8, for Roy Kent, the Box to Box Midfielder (as I recall from tradition, the Number 8).
Thank you 🙏🏼
@@DNReacts I considered trying to obliquely guide yinz to figuring that one out, but it was easier to just say it.
Probably for the best, we aren’t that clever 😂
Easter egg alert: When Ted says that they're going to get back and win the whole f'ing thing, that's a quote from the movie Major League where the "angry woman inherits her husband's sports team that she hates and manages it terribly to get what she wants" aspect of the plot comes from. In Major League the owner doesn't ever come around to be nice so when the team finds out what she was doing, the Roy Kent analog chimes in to say that there's only one thing to do..."Win the whole f'ing thing."
There's of course a lot of differences between the two but it was a cool shoutout.
The scene where Ted runs out of Rebecca’s office and smacks his head .. that was real. I believe he had to have stitches (not 100% on that). Rebecca’s reaction to it in the scene is her actual reaction. I love that they leave in things like head smacks. Makes it seem more real.
The first time Ted swears, "There's only one thing left to do. Win the whole fucking thing" is a reference to classic baseball movie Major League. Similar plot, owner hires bad players so that they will lose and she can move the team to a different city. Classic American sports movie moment.
We actually know about that 😀 we recently watched Major League on our Patreon! It is hilarious!
Ha! I was coming here to say that! “Major League” is an old enough movie that I bet a lot of these punk kids haven’t heard of it but it was the kind of thing that was always on cable somewhere. The premise of Ted Lasso is taken directly from that movie. I thought this was a really funny nod to that fact!
Been looking forward to this! Thanks boys! I am following the episodes right along with you guys so it's fun watching this
I’m glad you’re enjoying them! Thanks for watching with us!!
fantastic! I have to rewatch this, you guys are getting me back invested!
Love this! Thank you for the comment and great to have you along for the journey 🙌
i think Ted signing his resignation letter on the back of a take out menu is a reference to the time that Bill Belichick signed his resignation as the head coach of the new york jets on a napkin from a restaurant
The selfie kid was in the first episode and the Christmas episode. He was the dentist’s son and gets a pic with Keeley
Yeah we remembered him from the plane scene 😊
Another great reaction! I would have loved to hear what you thought about the interaction between Jamie and his father after the game.
Thank you so much 🙏 We’ll definitely do a summary after the show too. We felt it showed why Jamie potentially is how he comes across too.
"Low key devastated ", I agree. Characters are so likeable you want that fairy-tale ending for them.
This was a perfect season.
Seasons 2 and 3 could not ever live up to this, and they didn't. But I enjoyed season 2 a lot and enjoyed the final season, too.
But this first season was magic.
Continued awesome reactions!
Thank you so much 🙏
I've been waiting for this episode ever since you mentioned you were a Liverpool fan. Marcus Mumford does a great version of YNWA.
I think season 2 is even better
Bingo 😊
Love your reactions to this great show. On to series 2 & 3. Howay The (Richmond) Lads! 🖤🤍
Glad you’re loving them! We are just starting season 3 on Patreon 😀
10 weeks of Happiness !
As a Palace supporter I take umbrage with that “when would palace ever beat someone 6-0” comment lol. We literally had a 5-2 win a couple weeks ago. Of course when this season of Ted Lasso was made, we were in the depths of Roy’s first stint so 6-0 really would’ve been impossible unless we were the side with 0 lmao
@pjkerrigan20 , wasn't the filming location for TL's Richmond 'home game' sequences actually Palace's place with a little CGI on top of it?
@@panamafloyd1469 yeah, Selhurst Park is the fictional Nelson Road, and AFC Richmond is loosely based on Palace! That’s why Richmond’s first opponent under Ted is Palace, as an ironic joke
@@pjkerrigan20 , that's so cool. I've got a buddy here in Atlanta who got seriously into EPL after we sold MIguel Almiron to Newcastle. We were watching an earlier episode together, he said, "Holy crap..I think I know where that is!" 😃
Yeah in fairness you’ve been great these past few weeks. An awesome win at Anfield too. Appreciate the comment!
The version of the saying I heard was "A win is like kissing your girlfriend, a loss is like not kissing anybody, and a tie is like kissing your sister." Like Ted says, it's probably for the best that y'all don't use this expression across the pond.
The back of the takeout menu is a reference to when Bill Belichick (later the greatest gridiron football coach of all time) quit the New York Jets in that way
Great little fact that is! Thank you 🙏🏼
Season 2 will really surprise you
We’ve seen season two on our Patreon! We’ve just started season 3 😀
@@DNReacts Nate is a asshole, lol
That was funny you knew the game should have been at 3pm. As Americans, we most likely would have missed that, as it makes sense for ratings (💵$ 💵$ 💵) that the game was at night. 😉
Don't worry about Roy.
We aren’t worried, we are on season 3 now so we know how season 2 plays out 😀
@@DNReacts Rascals!
Stage 1 done of this beautiful journey
It’s amazing! We’ve just started season 3 on Patreon!
The full phrase is "a tie is like kissing your sister." I believe the simple explanation is that it's gross or off-putting.
He's here, he's there... someone else must have posted this already.
Tie is like kissin' yer sister. Same thing said about splitting a doubleheader in baseball--no satisfaction, but no disappointment--it's like treading water.
Is it the final game of the entire Premiere League or just Richmond's final game of the schedule?
Every teams final game are all on the same day and kick off at the same time. Which is 3pm UK
@@DNReacts the NFL also does that for the final game of the season in each division, for example all the NFC East games will start at the same time
👍👍
👍🏾
The mushy peas thing. It's a joke, right?
Absolutely not! Goes great with some traditional fish and chips 😀
@@DNReacts Fish and chips ✅️ mushy peas ❌️
strange that you think episode 9 was the funniest one since I've always thought of it as the most serious episode of season 1
Palace winning 6 - 0 is the most unrealistic thing in the entire series. And this is coming from a Palace supporter.
Nate is mean.
He’s definitely not grown on me after season 2. We’ve just started season 3 on our Patreon and I’m not sure he’s going to get any better. Appreciate the comment 🙏
So now you have met my least favorite character, Jaime's dad. A real POS.
He really is! Hate him!
kiss your sister...sure, it was a kiss. but it was with your sister. sure you didnt lose. but you didnt win
👍👍
