I live in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Before the show started, John Krasinski came to Scranton. The videos in the intro, the locations they talk about, and background things on the walls and their cubicles are all local. When the show ended, the entire cast came to Scranton, and there was a weekend party here to celebrate The Office. People still come to Scranton to find the locations they spoke about and visit The Office gift shops.
@@albertcornett7408 yeahh, tbh when i started watching it took me i guess 3 months to watch season one cause michael was so so impossible to watch... but in the season 2 he definitely changes, but still a weird and lonely guy
This first season is heavily based on UK Series 1 but season 2 they started down their own path. Very much a "heavily inspired by" the original, but Michael Scott is brilliant - Steve Carell never watched the Office UK because he didn't want to just imitate David Brent.
More specifically because American TV is a much longer format, they were finding that spending too much time with really unlikeable characters was turning audiences away. So they had to make Michael less of a sleeve sleezebag and more of an oaf so people would be willing to watch 24 episodes of him.
I was reading a book about Hitler and the people around him recently. One of them, Martin Borrman, gave himself his own title of "Assistant Fuhrer" and as soon as I read that I immediately went, "Assistant TO the Fuhrer."
BJ Novak who plays the temp worker in this episode, was a main writer and executive producer for the show. He went to high school with Krasinski, who was thinking of quitting acting just before he signed onto the show. And now he's married to Emily Blunt. That's a going a long way.
@@DNReacts If you want to hear a hilarious story Krasinski tells about being married to Blunt, look up his video with Graham Norton about going through airport security.
Steve Carrell is so hilarious and will make you cringe in this show, but his real genius is that even with all the awful things he says and does, he will make you care about Michael Scott.
It's crazy how he can make you hate the guy one episode, want to cry for him the next, and then immediately go back to hating him lol. Sometimes in the span of a single episode 😂
I just started watching this again myself and I'll tell you it just gets better and better. I'm at season 4 and it's the best it's been so far! Keep watching!
The Office and Ted Lasso are my top two shows of all time. Love that I’m getting to watch them along with two first time viewers. The Office has the greatest ensemble characters of any sitcom imo, enjoy the ride.
I haven’t seen anyone else mention this, but there was a huge resurgence of this show in the last 10 years. So much so that people almost rioted when it was going to be taken off Netflix. It became huge on streaming with junior high students (12-15 year olds) who watch it over and over like comfort watching. You’d see a resurgence of T-shirts and Office merch at stores like Hot Tooic. My boys both had Dunder Mifflin Paper Company T-shirts in jr high. There are a couple of The Office rewatch podcasts hosted by cast members, and it’s been discussed that they faced a whole other level of notoriety amongst teenagers. My kids are young adults and they will still have The Office playing on their phones in the background at times. Total nostalgia comfort watching for them. And another point about this first episode, it’s basically the exact same script as the first episode of the British office, just with some British-isms swapped out for American-isms.
I LOVE that you guys are doing this. I love this show! The guy you thought you recognized is John Krasinski, he's married to Emily Blunt... he did A Quiet Place, Jack Ryan, 13 Hours and Dr Strange Multiverse of Madness. Sidenote: My dad went to high school with Steve Carrell, he's an absolutely lovely man in real life. He's so normal, kind, and genuinely, side splittingly funny when you chat with him.
Steve Carrell playing Micheal Scott is without a doubt the finest comedic character acting the world has ever produced. It only improves from this point forward and it drives this show and the other characters to some incredibly hilarious moments. Priceless
Excited you guys are reacting to this. The Jamie Kennedy Experiment was basically like Punk'd except Jamie Kennedy would dress up and stuff and actively participate on it, and it was just with regular people, not celebrities.
So glad to see this. I love both versions of the office. This series was amazing. It is still one of the highest streamed series globally. And there is a reboot coming, but not with the original cast. Greg Daniels who created the American version is doing the reboot. The Office Ladies podcast with Jenna Fisher and Angela Kinsey is wonderful. This show was lightning in a bottle. So many amazing things lined up. it really is very special. In the opening credits, when you see the Scranton sign going by, John Krasinski shot that the day after he found out he got the role of Jim. He drove from New York to Scranton and filmed driving in. Greg Daniels saw the footage and bought it from him for the opening credits. All three of the people in the accounting department knew each other from doing improv, none of them knew the others had been cast until they saw each other the first day. There are so many special moments in front of the camera and behind the camera in this series. You are going to love it. And yes, it gets quite cringe and there is one episode that is universally considered the most cringe and many fans, including myself, cannot bear to watch it again lol.
Great reaction, lads. So glad you're doing this. You're going to love this show. My personal favorite is the Jim (John Krasinski) and Dwight (Rainn Wilson) relationship. It's the absolute best. The pranks alone will kill you. The show will be unrecognizable from "The Office" (UK) version soon.
Ok, I thought Demo was the 1st to like Tenn and Nick liked Penn State more .? But anyway, my team is the 16th seed (ECU) match up vs Tenn if we can win our pod . 64 teams divided up into 16 pods of 4. Then the sweet 16 round is head to head best of a 3 game series. The final 8 go to the college world series...
This is a great idea ! Hope you watch the whole show. Also it’s always sunny in Philadelphia, I feel like that humor would send you guys falling outta those chairs
If I wasn't already subscribed I would do it again. Such a great series and hope guys stick with it because sadly The Office US version is notoriously hard to upload on youtube.
Ryan the temp is played by BJ Novak, a writer for the show. A number of the writers act on the show, either in the main cast or background office workers.
As a Canadian I have seen this series a multiple of times , much more than I’ve seen the original this ones always a great watch! But I know a lot of my friends here don’t even know of the original British series
I'm so glad you're doing this! I done care for sports, but I really like you guys. Your reaction videos are very good. Mind you, I love a good movie even if it is about sports. A League of Their Own is one of my favorites. (Have y'all seen that one?) I subscribed when y'all reacted to Moneyball, and I am LOVING your journey through Ted Lasso. That's such a good series! Keep it up!
You've got a patreon sub from me as long as this series keeps coming. This show is VERY good when you properly watch it in order and take it all in (that's what she said).
The initially planned to have Michael Scott's character more like Ricky's version, where he's just an a-hole but people responded to the completely unaware version much more positively.
We are doing both to be honest. The sports will return to the channel when we figure out the direction we want to go in. In the mean time we are recycling some content from our Patreon. You’re not wrong though, no harm in diversifying!

Cannae wait for your reaction to episode 2. Unlike this episode, that plot wasn't taken from the original version, but it was so funny/well received that it was adapted for the German version of The Office.
Many people have mentioned that BJ Novak who plays Ryan the temp is one of the writers (there are three cast members who are the main writers). Although she is not in this pilot episode, shout out to Mindy Kailing who plays Kelly. Mindy and BJ were the main writers and were producers. Mindy wrote more episodes than any other writer but often got overlooked in comparison to BJ back in the day. Her character was intentionally annoying and some people thought that might be part of the reason. It was also a surprise to many that she was as prolific a creator of the show as she was.
You guys should also consider watching Parks & Recreation. It was created by the same guy who did the US Office and is set up in a mockumentary style as well.
