Chopin: Piano Concerto No.1, Movement 2 - Largo, Romance (Zimerman)

- The hyperdetailed and heartbreaking Zimerman rendition with the Polish Festival Orchestra. Zimerman handpicked the orchestra and is conducting from the piano. Note how lush the orchestra sounds and how dutifully pauses in the score are followed.
My grandfather would close his eyes when he heard this. Tears would stream down his face. Chopin has the ability to touch the soul.
Kelsey Riffey absolutely, he does it like no one else
Only Chopin music can make me feel like crying.
Yes. There is nothing like Chopin's music. It touches your soul and you feel like crying out as if romance was gone and hiding behind some undefined fence emotions
@@fryderyk_chopin_sir_newton you should know more classical music so haha
Yes, you’re so right. I get teary-eyed too. It just really gets me thinking about the people I love, and the people I’ve lost. It brings an overwhelming feeling over me that I just can’t describe. I’m choking up a little, just thinking about it.
I have never heard anything more exquisite in my life. I am speechless.
There are so many hidden gems of absolute beauty in the Classical World.
it sure is beautifull, but not exquisite. Chopin's orchestration is terrible, he however was probably the best at melody creating, making it one of the most beautifull concertos.
Chopin said in a letter, referring to this movement, "it should give the impression of gazing tenderly at a place which brings to mind a thousand dear memories."
it feels like a magical place... almost like i remember it, even though i’ve never been there.
Yes. I feel like I am Harry Potter listening to this. I can cast spells and stuff.
Probably the main hall at Hogwarts.
Or Hagrid's hut.
Minutes 2:32-2:40 are absolutely heart wrenching. Such beautiful melodies that evoke happy times and yet they are tinged with sadness
Chopin will forever be my favourite composer of all time.
Still he?
@@Iamshokhzod_ yes
Hard to choose beetwen Rachmaninoff and Chopin for me
@@aken215 yess bro, but for me Beethoven is the best composer
@@aken215 same. rachmaninoff is just different.
I remember this was on the Truman show .
Knew it was Chopin instantly! His piano concertos are so distinctively him!!
Same I watched it in school and I was like that's chopin.
That's why I'm here..I knew it had to be Chopin..it reminds me of Nocturne opus 9 no.2 in e flat major. Which is truly sublime.
@@studio-flash A beautiful choice. This piecec an the one you mention are my two most love piano pieces. There is something so uniquely exquiste with Chopin. So lyrical in motion. We are blessed.
I love this melody at 2:30.
I can't describe what I feel when I hear this whole beautiful slow movement
Oh, me too! My favourite part💕
4:19
Chopin only wrote 2 concerto’s in his life. He made these two with pure emotion. In parts 4:00 - 5:14 , you could hear him gazing at stars and then him writing under the dim light of his oil lamp, getting frustrated at himself, but remembering all the happy memories of his life (his mother, his happy, lively pieces etc.).
We all love Chopin. He lives every time we play his pieces. He shall live as long as we remember.
Music as beautiful as this, you just can't find words to describe.
graceyk70 Exactly, no words, just emotions.
True the only words one can say is that 'there aren't any'. What a beautiful conudrum.
That melody from 2:32 on is one of the most heart wrenching I’ve ever heard. The orchestration is absolutely beautiful too. Thank you Chopin for blessing us with such wonderful music.
At this moment in time I am chilled out and slumped in my comfortable armchair, relaxing before bedtime after a hard day at work. With a glass of wine to hand listening to this wonderful music performed by an extraordinary talented artist at the peak of his powers. What can I say further but I do hope there are other people out there listening and sated by the beauty of it all.
Are you by any chance, Inspector Morse, sir?
I felt nostalgic and a longing for something that I missed terribly. I'm here at work trying to keep my composure. Incredibly powerful stuff. Zimerman and the Orchestra gave a fantastic performance.
tears heal
9:59 one of the reasons why I love Zimerman's Chopin Piano Concerto No.1 is the orchestra's melody is so clear in this later part. I don't know why most other renditions have more quiet orchestra sound than piano in this part. Almost the piano overwhelm the orchestra even though the orchestra is playing the main theme of this piece.
9:28 the way he pressed the key slowly in this part is also the reason why I love Zimerman too 👍
Rahmat Hidayat Ikr. Zimerman always finds a way to play so elegantly
That's the point of a piano CONCERTO, where the soloist is accompanied by an orchestra
I agree @Chang-yong Lee
@@Chris-xs3vu You're missing the point of the comment. Around 9:59 the strings is meant to be the main MELODY, and should stand out. The piano arpeggios is just the accompaniment.
This music describes a human being looking upon pure beauty and being transfixed by it. Words are not enough for tears like these in life. Merci Maestro Chopin!
02:30 - 02:50 the most heartbreaking 4 bars ever written
Indeed... And yet, the exquisiteness of this piece knows few if any boundaries. Anywhere.
4:36 - 5:10 And the moment comes that he knows only the positions of the stars, and sees them whether his eyes are closed or open. Until he forgets his name and the place he'd once come from. He lives and he lives until all of the lights go out.
@Emmanuel Gapud
Love that movie 👍
i was looking for this comment, best movie ever
@@romeobenevento330 hell yeah
I’ve been listening to the entire soundtrack of this short film and finally caught a reference after all this time!
This movement takes my breath away
This piece still makes me cry till to this day..thank you chopin 😢
Heart-breakingly beautiful - gorgeous indeed ! John Cowin - London - England
Very beautifull and emotionel, reminds me of the old days when I was young. I wish I had piano-lessons earlier than I could play this. I love the music of Chopin.
Koos van de Water Het is nooit te laat om te beginnen met pianoles
Every now and then I hear a piece played exactly as I've always heard it in my head. Magic!
Elizabeth Gamble the first time I heard this I thought exactly that
Superb - and the string accompaniment is unlike anything I've ever heard. Sublime
always made my tears come out hearing this piece it goes deep into my soul
Me too...
Zimerman's rendition of this beautiful Chopin movement is absolutely the apex. I have owned another version for more than a decade and have thoroughly enjoyed it. But, after listening several times to Zimerman's tranquil, pensive, delicate interpretation here on UA-cam, I no longer want to hear my original - that one seems rushed and almost superficial (hard to believe). I've also listened to other versions, such as Arthur Rubinstein's. But, Zimerman absolutely owns this piece. EXQUISITE.
I agree. I heard Rubinstein's version, which I really liked and enjoyed, but this one, is the absolute perfection. The final part with the strings, is pure heaven. No words for this.
just cry, we love you chopin. thanks
It’s like reading a beautiful story and never wanted to end .
There's no better composer for piano than Chopin: he is "THE PIANO"
*Rachmaninov has entered the chat*
@@GamerGuyMatt1892 Rachmaninov has entered the chat, saw Chopin and left the chat again.
That’s your opinion
@@GamerGuyMatt1892 Rachmaninoff deeply admired Chopin and many of his pieces were inspired by Chopins music, when I listen to Rach preludes I hear Chopin preludes and scherzi. (I do also love Rach, though!)
I think Liszt is "the piano", but it's your opinion :)
It is amazing how much detail Zimerman puts into this interpretation.
How can something as beautiful as this even exist?
That’s what I thought when I heard it, how just how can someone create something so beautiful. I feel truly honoured to be able to hear it. I wish I had the chance to see Chopin live
The most romantic piece 🎹🎵
It's so beautiful and romántic.
5:30 so heartbreaking my heart.. 💔😭
This movement will always have a special place in my heart 💕
This Zimerman’s version is astonishing! Amazing orchestra, ideas, interpretation
He is absolutely one of the best…if not the best , your right.
Wow, this is a really beautiful rendition.
I love you Chopin.
Absolutely sublime.
agreed
He lives, and he lives. Till all of the lights go out…
Such an incredible film.
Best ending to a short film, or perhaps any independent film at all, that I can think of.
what movie???

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHOPIN
Man that orchestra is something else. 'Lush' is exactly the right word. I've never heard the introduction sound that way.
I used to listen to this music when I felt lonely in my childhood (and that happenend many times). It soothed and comforted me, gave me hope and it does until today. I cannot describe what this music means to me.
It is a shame that it's getting more and more lost and so little of my generation/my country seem to listen to classical music. I hope it will last forever.
I listened to this during a sunset, it was absolutely beautiful
Beautiful sunny days....playing with friends out in the fields, hide and seek.....laughs in the distance counting to ten.....warm beautiful sun in your face, trying to keep quite and getting caught! We all remember those glorious days......kissing your fist love on the lips for the first time, that extra heart beat you had. Those days that are now far in our memories, but Chopin brings this back to us like it was yesterday, what a beautiful gift!
Chopin has MANY utterly beautiful pieces, but I have to say this has got to be one of his best.
Chopin wrote this when he was only 20 years old.....wow.
chopin always makes me feel like I'm floating on a cloud. like real and unreal. sometimes I feel like I'm crying and smiling at the same time and suddenly, it makes me remember all my sweet memories too🥺💖
9:27-10:01 ---- I sound in tune with.
>>>>> These several bars of the Concerto fascinate me.
... I was amazed by them yesterday while listening to CBC radio.
Thank God for finding them today!
SO TRUE.....WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE.........
Among all the piano classics, this piece brings me to a world of serenity and nostalgia that is full of beautiful memories. To me it’s the best coffee for leisure and therapeutical treatment for longevity.
So beautiful, it melts my heart
There is no music written like this anymore it seems
Un solo aggettivo mi viene in mente per commentare questo movimento : sublime !!!
Dziękuję Bogu za Chopina❤
Aż szkoda że tak szybko umarł :(
Beautiful. Brings out all sorts of emotions. Chopin’s music can truly touch you.
9:28 is so beautiful... heartbreaking, almost.
6:49 - 7:21 is my personal favourite!!! So deep, immense and, at the same time, very intimate (6:49 - 7:03). I feel like I have lack of words to describe it!
Cuando extraño a mi madre escucho este concierto y siento que está nuevamente a mi lado tocándolo en el piano. 🥺 Es sublime 🙌
I enrolled in the army a week ago. Army in my country is necessary so people tend to not take it seriously. After a long day we are supposed to sleep. But I can't. Being away from family, friends gym mates I feel extremely lonely. Thoughts of a girl that I like keep me awake, Memories, conversations jokes and the image of her in my mind. The view from my window isn't anything special the night sky is empty of stars and the moon doesn't shine its majestic light. The emptiness of the night sky somewhat materializes my eternal loneliness. The only visible and identifiable thing that I can see is a skyscraper that is illuminated at night. Just the thought that that she sees that building as well makes the dull and boring view of nothingness a comforting and beautiful place that I can stare at for hours and think of her. I liked this girl for a long time. She is literally the most perfect and beautiful girl that I've ever seen. I can't imagine a girl more pretty than her. She is average height with a small frame she has wide clavical bones for her structure. Her face portrays a beauty that can only be found in the world of poetry and art. She has prominent cheek bones a Roman nose big feminine eyes and the most seductive lips that help highlight her warm and beautiful smile. I even remember the first time we've talked alone it was a summer night the day before schools opened an event was held. We ve talked in the dark the only source of light was the moonlight. Her dark eyes were sparkling like the night stars. I can't even remember what we've talked about I just remember her beautiful face looking up at me and smiling. That memory burns in my my and brings me indescribable feelings. This is the only piece that can potrey how I feel about her. I want to give her so much. I want to make her feel like the most beautiful girl in the world. I want to hold her and feel her warmth. I want to listen to her rant about anything. Every conversation I have with her is special to me despite the topic. I just love the way she talks and treats others. I love how she has a great relationship with her parents. Her laugh is so cute that it makes my stomach hurt every time I hear it. Listening to this piece alone in the army base staring at a blank night sky thinking of her makes me feel and experience the catharsis of somene that admits that he is in love.
Yes, it tenderly brings to mind cherished memories and a sense of missing something that was ...long ago...
Musicians of this quality and talent stun my mind. I can't even comprehend the genius of others.
Playing this piece is more challenging than it looks. But it’s very worthwhile effort
i love this performance.
Unbearably beautiful.
Absolument merveilleux !!!
My late husband's favorite music that I buried him with. The second part - this is us, our family.
heard this on the radio like a month ago and saved the name in my memory for that long and i finally decided to look it up! thank goodness for the easy name or else it would've been lost to me forever
What have you remembered it as?
Brilliant, thank you for this.
I'm here because I was watching the Trueman show..a superb film. The scene on the beach I thought that's got to be Chopin, I wasn't wrong. It reminds me of Nocturne opus 9 no.2 in flat major..which is sublime
For a heavy rock fan who has seen Kiss, AC-DC, Motley Crue, Guns n Rose's, Van Halen ,Queen, etc. you might find it strange I'm listening to classical music, but it's all about the experience, when I hear Chopin's piano concertos it takes you into another realm, another world where beautiful women glide on air their hair blowing in the wind, its powerful, full of mystique and an exuberance of romanticism.
7:05 - 7:20 so much goosebumps!
No tengo palabras para expresar tan monumental maravilla de Andante quizá el mas bello jamás compuesto para un concierto para piano
I can see why someone suggested using this as a wedding processional. This is really beautiful, and it perfectly embodies tender love. Plus, it's at a nice walking pace
Zimmerman your magnificent performance deeply touch our soul and heart, Chopin your are alway thankful for yr music understand what our heart. and Soul. looking for.
Piękno muzyki Fryderyka Chopina to fenomen graniczący z cudem.
Questa è una preghiera. La gratitudine pura per la vita.
What Chopin composed here is a worthy piece of Music that can rival Rachmaninoff's jaw breaking Piano concerto No 2. For me...this deep music sounded like a soul on the way home to its paradise in the afterlife after the body is dead....with all the flashbacks of its entire life flashing in 3D in front of the soul....all the tears, joy, challenges, triumphs, achievements and failures all flashing while this music is playing.....until the end...where the soul finally reaches Paradise.
This is far better than Rach 2.
Chopin to najpiękniejsza spuścizna dla ludzkości.
Simplesmente a melhor interpretação que ouvi desse segundo movimento. Acuradíssima, uma perfeição.
And here I thought that no other interpretation of this piece could possibly top Artur Rubinstein's....but after listening to ZImerman's, I really don't know anymore...

Este segundo movimento ficará para sempre . A interpretação vem do céu!
Sublime!
Thank you Zimmermann
Gentle loving touch of heaven...
Sitting at a lonely bench at night staring at a night sky full of stars. Thoughts of a girl that I like pop in my head. I start recolling our interactions and conversations and i suddenly feel a sense of indescribable loneliness . I recall that every time I see her my heart starts singing the most beautiful melodies,my mood instantly lits up and my night out gets purpose. Thinking of all this I now regret my cowardness and my inability to potrey my feelings to her .
