This performance might be a fluke, never to be repeated. Zimmerman's crystal clarity and Bernstein's interpretation are a gift to humanity. If I had to choose one piece of music over everything else in the world this might be it, but only this particular performance. I've heard others that don't come anywhere close. Even the recording was top notch.

Truly amazing. However the greatest interpretation to me is that of Rubinstein, the piano genius ua-cam.com/video/K25fZRwbeGM/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared. Listen to the subtile cadence of the opening notes of this adagio that make all the difference. The Jerusalem orchestra is slightly weaker than this one but nothing compares to Rubinstein's instinctive, heartbreaking and flying play

      Maybe !
But it's also an undeniable fact, that Beethoven himself firmly believed in God and in divine inspiration too.
When he was preparing himself for the composition of his great mass in D-major, the Missa Solemnis, which he'd later regard as his greatest and most important work, he wrote in his notebook :
( "Only in the ancient church modes the adoration is truely divine.
May God let me accomplish it for once !" )

    Gracias

❤I can't express my delight at how wonderful this atmosphere is, it brings me to a completely different time dimension, evoking such emotions in my heart and mind that I can't describe how sublime it feels. I am so grateful to the entire orchestra and, of course, the wonderful Pianist, Zimerman, who offered us such a beautiful atmosphere and a transfer to a wonderful super-earthly time. Thank you very much.

The conductor has the best job in the world he must never get tired of hearing angels sing. Makes me sad to think how heart breaking it must have been for beethoven to lose his hearing

There are many great performances of this beautiful piece on YT - and I have listened to most of them ! THis one however has still by far outstripped the others I feel.
I lost count of how man times I have played back this first class performance from Krystian Zimmerman and orchestra. His serene interpretation is just superb. I have not been able to find an equally brilliant performance anywhere. Thank you for uploading.!

I feel happyness everytime I read this comment and I don't know why. Maybe because I won't be Beethoven and no one will. Beethoven was, is and will be unique. His music has something that others' music hasn't. Every feeling on every second of his masterpieces. Absolutely, Beethoven is my favourite composer.

To be honest, I didn't know Richard Stilgoe was a concert pianist.
I'm new to all this classical business and just taking a tour around what's been recommended to me and thus far, this is absolutely top top of the tree. I can't believe this piece if music came from a single persons mind. Of course, the dedication and willingness and love of the musicians who play it still 200 years or so later...well it makes a dead hand trace a line down your spine until you shiver with watery-eyed joy.
