I used to love my supernova but sold it, I regret that now, it’s a truly fantastically designed synth with an utterly great sound. The fact that the Ozric Tentacles use them speaks volumes as they are synth masters.
I think that every one's so obsessed with synth's being analog in one way or another that they can't "diminish" them self to use VA's any more. I have some and they all sound great , mabe not like the fat analogs but they can still make the subwoofer rumble and make noises the analog just can dream of.
No Nag Recordings spot on there, my Waldorf Q was also an outstanding VA synth, and both the supernova 2 and the Q had performance features most modern synths don’t even come close to and that’s not even mentioning sound quality.
Thank you! I don't think it's underrated. It has a hype. But people have at some point started to diss VA synths and thier capabilities. It's a shame because these are great.
@@No_Nag I am so glad that I grabbed a Novation Supernova II Pro-X 48 voice when I found it. It took me like 6 months to finally find one available for sale on eBay. I just need to sit down and play with it! I also have the Nova desktop, I got it before I found the Supernova 2.
I'm sort of moving backwards on this: I started with a Circuit, and when I learned it used the Mininova synth engine I got a Mininova which I enjoy a lot. A big plus for me is that Novation does a good job with their documentation (are you listening Korg?), and the Supernova 2 documentation is over 200 pages long, so I will go through the SN 2 manual to see what got left out on the Mininova. Thanks a lot for creating this video, nice to follow the evolution to where we are today!
I craved for this for years, but they wherejust to expensive so when the anaolge craze started and the prices dropped I finally got one and it's never going away... next up Novation for me is a Summit. They just the thing i'm on about now. Going backwards is a cool way of doin it. Did that with Ensoniq and have almost all of them...
I think the main thing they left out in the Mininova is the great sound of the Supernova... bit unfortunate, but, the Mininova just doesn't have that punch and character.
A great demo of why this was, is and will remain a great synth. Had mine for about 20 years and it's still going strong. I should use it more! On the down side, it drives me mad that I have press about 7 buttons just to put an LFO on an oscillator, though! I think there are 137 buttons on this damned thing! Ease of use? Well, yes but it comes with headaches even after all these years!
i would loop it with something intense,, blast the volume,, and mess with the knobs ferociously ,,, like live synthrave style,,, but i have always been a radical musician,,,,,
The channel name's from 2012 when i broke up with my girlfriend. I moved in to my new appartment and started calling it "No Nag Cribb" and it has stayed on and moved on with me to other stuff :D
I love my SN2 but it takes so much space and rather heavy... a friend of mine had the rack module and wants to buy my keyversion (i still have a Nova) but i think i would miss the feel and the wow factor, even if i would take his SN2 rack module.
Why do most demo's i hear from the Nova synths literally hurt my ears?? i own the Mininova and it's nice but only with the filter way down. I am done with the squeeky duck sounds it is good at. Can anyone tell what's wrong with this or is it just me. Yes it's just me of course.
Turn the volume down a notch mabe 😉 I think the filter are pretty good for being digital. All selfresonating squelch your ears off when dialed to the extreme. 🤔

i really hope the DSP56300 Project will in the future emulate one of these. Damn still sounds massive.
A great demo. Thanks.
Well, thank you!
Awesome demo of a highly under-rated polysynth!

I'm on the look out for one of these in the UK
Only one I could find is in Italy... And it's pricey!
@@No_Nag I will be patient, holefully!

Well it's more like when it wraps it self round your head rather than the other way around 😂
Hi thanks, great. "It has Been"... means has been replaced by ?
I'm currently using a Kawai K5000s. But I still have the Supernova :)
7:15 - phenomenal
After so many years still a fantastic synth to own and hard to find. Sadly the DAC chip is often a problem.
Haven't had that problem with mine fortunatly. It is a great synth, I use it as my main controller to.
There are places that will replace the DAC chip for very little money.
Luckily only the main mix outputs are affected, the other outputs will work fine.
Thanks...

I love the synth, and the channel name. (I get nagged too much in my daily life)

hola desde Mexico...yo tengo los mios SN II rack y key son grandes muy grandes ....soy afortunado y ustedes tambien y si da problemas el chip DAC
No problemas :)
The sound is clipping because the level was set too high. It sounds much better when the volume is reduced. I have one and love it!
