The Titan Fitness Seated Leg Extension / Leg Curl Resistance Profile Fix + 2 Year Update

  • I have had the Titan Fitness Seated Leg Extension / Leg Curl Machine for nearly 2 years. In fact, it is one of the only Titan Fitness pieces of home gym equipment I still own and it is one of my favorite Titan Fitness machines. However, it has been well established the machine lacks resistance in the starting position of both the leg extension and leg curl. This video shows my favorite hack to improve the machine’s resistance profile.

    I'm just bot a fan of leg extension machines that have the all the plates on one side. I never could go high in weight without the machine tipping over or becoming off balance even if I loaded a heavy plate on the weight horn on the back of the machine and to pay $700 that would be crazy.Yeah Titan has sells but they usually just 10% off which is basically nothing. This is just my opinion, others may love this machine as U do and to each his own but for me give me leg extension machine that loads in the front or equal plates on each side which is almost impossible to find anymore. Ones I like are gonna be more expensive but they are worth it. Beats the heck out of paying over $600 on one that is gonna tip over but like I said this is just my opinion

    If a selectorized unit felt like it was 10 out of 10 in terms of smoothness of the resistance curve, and the original titan machine was a 5 out of 10 (half of the curve being good), how close does this hack move the titan towards a 10 out of 10? I really want a seated leg curl but hate the idea of needing a selectorized unit for one freaking exercise. Thanks again!

    • @HomeGymHacksandReviews
      @HomeGymHacksandReviews  Рік тому +1

      For the leg curl, if I lower the starting position of the ankle pad slightly the plate doesn’t go as high, therefore, the resistance doesn’t drop off and nothing is really lost in the beginning of the exercise. Another option is to just use a 25 pound plate instead of a 35.
      Maybe an 8 out of 10. Hopefully, some other people will chime in with their thoughts. I can’t see myself buying a selectorized machine now that this works as good as it does, but by no means, can it compete with a multi-thousand dollar Cybex, Life Fitness, Hammer Strength, etc.

      In regards to the resistance curve of the leg curl, you actually want the resistance to lessen as the muscle shortens. A muscle is at its weakest when contracted (shortened), so having the resistance curve of the machine lessen at peak contraction is actually ideal and will allow you to train the full ROM without bottlenecking the exercise (since the resistance curve of the machine better matches the strength curve of the muscle). The heaviest part of the exercise should be when the muscle is near lengthened since that is where a muscle is the strongest. So for leg curls, this hack inadvertently makes this machine much more efficient. Check out prime fitness plate loaded machines, you'll see that they offer different loading options for this exact reason.

      @@ernie0753 the problem is there is no resistance for the first 1/4 to even 1/2 of the movement with the Titan unless this hack is used. Also, Prime is awesome, but I just can’t see spending 4,500 for their combo machine + shipping when I got the Titan for 500.
