It's too bad we had to (and still have to ) resort to a violent practice such as War to resolve our issues , But since we have , and there is no changing the past, might as well try to learn something from all of it , IMHO
My uncle Jimmy Castro served at Guadalcanal. In fact he was even mentioned in the famous book about the battle called “Guadalcanal Diary” written by three authors whose names I have forgotten over the years. Though the fighting was horrendous and inhuman, on both sides, my uncle Jimmy returned home as he left. He was the kindest and most gentle person I have ever known and I will always be proud and thankful that he was a part of my life.
Richard Tregaskis wrote Guadalcanal Diary. Great book. 1st book I ever read. At age 10 I decided I was going to try to claim the Title. Sure enough, at age 20 I did.
This is a masterpiece, I am a US Navy Tin Can Sailor my father served in the Navy in this area during the battle. i have been reading about the battle of Guadalcanal for years now and you have answered every question i have ever had. priceless work. thank you
I have been watching history channel and American Hero channel productions my whole life but nothing compares to the quality of this 4 hour masterpiece.
I knew of the Guadalcanal campaign but never realized just how massive the island was, nor just how much Japan was forced to commit (and ultimate evacuate from) the island.
Thanks! This is the best documentary I have seen about one of the most important but least discussed battles of World War 2. If the Marine Corps doesn’t hold on Gualdacanal the entire course of the war changes. Semper Fi!
BEST 4 hrs I could ask for. For the first I have a better understanding and appreciation of the sacrifices the soldiers and sailors had to endure during the Guadalcanal campaign.
I am 82, I had three uncles fight in WWII, all survived. One as a medic in europe, one in the merchant marines on many convoys to England and on D day was in the convoy to the initial invasion in Europe, the third fought in Guadalcanal. All survived and had successful lives living to late nineties. THe other two uncles served in Korea one the entire war and survived pork chop hill, the other saving the life of a General by caring him from a building that had been attacked. My mother was the only girl in the family. God was good to them they were known as the BATT BOYS for years after their service. This is the only video I have seen on Guadalcanal. MKL
Let me ask you.. If what happened back in the late 1930s - 1950s were to happen today. And our youth drafted like they were for WW2. Do you reckon we would prevail like we did back then?
@lilmike2710 between WW1 and Great depression the us was in a uniquely good position with the greatest generation but don't underestimate many young men and women in the US and don't overestimate the greatest generation, they had their share of armchair sleezeballs.
Glad that this video showed the small terrain details that had so much effect on the battle. The huge amount of hills and knolls and that immensely long trail hacked through the jungle by Japanese engineers. Also, the single log bridge and the crude, camouflaged pillboxes at the Gifu give a sense of what it was like for individuals taking part. Not just a video of broad troop movements over bland, featureless maps. Thanks everybody!
My dad was on the heavy cruiser USS USS Chicago covering the marine landings. Section M fire control. With the bow of the Chicago damaged and needing repairs back in the states, my dad went to electrical training and in rising in rank in fire control he was re assigned to the stores issue ship USS Caster where he was electrician/fire control for the ship... that delivered supplies... he had a bunch of friends lost on the Chicago. Later he got a letter from a friend from the Chicago... he kept his rough draft of his response letter.
On top of everything else, the island was rife with bad water and plenty of tropical diseases. The IJN had been trained and equipped to fight set piece wars in temperate China and the far eastern parts of the USSR. Even the most basic issue leather items for use by its common soldiers quickly fell apart in this humid, tropical island, hell.
@@joeywheelerii9136 I'm not sure. I was a teenager and I did not understand much about how the Marine Corp was structured on Guadalcanal until I watched some of these videos. I'm not certain that he even told us.
@@billpollard5051 I wonder if you were interested to know more, you might be able to get hold of his military service records? I don't know where you apply to in the US, it may be that you just need his name & date of birth to get started? I believe you don't need to be a relative to apply. It does help when looking here in the UK, to have the regiment as well as those details, but I imagine that the process would just take a bit longer without it, rather than make it impossible? I'm very glad that I could find out from another record, that my Grandpa was in the Green Howards, I'm in the process of planning a trip to the regiment's museum. It's fascinating stuff, so many of us would not even exist if our grandfathers had not made it home. We have a lot to be grateful for, all because those young men did what had to be done & made it back home, to make a new life in a new world. I humbly thank them all, every single one of the Allies, including your assistant Scoutmaster, for their service.

From the first bullet to the last bullet fired in combat on Guadalcanal. Fantastic video of everything that happened there. Thank you very much for this.
Unbelievable how much time, research and effort went into this masterpiece. Thank you so much for doing this. I feel like in a lot of ways the Pacific War was forgotten. Unbelievably amazing job!!
Yo guys i had my CIE examination today and there was a surprise qiestion on battle of nahawand and i gotta thank this channel alot fr your vid of nahawand gave me enough content and saved me thanks so much 😊❤❤
Thank you for this. This is probably the best depiction of this battle/campaign Ive ever seen. A member of my family was a marine here and to be able to see on the map the battles he described is remarkable. I could follow his life day to day on your map. Thank you
I had an uncle that fought in this battle. He was apart of the first generation marines, I can’t remember what his regiment was. He would tell me about how one night they looked down at the pacific fleet that MacArthur was in charge of being attacked thinking they were beating Japan. The morning after, they went down to the beach only to receive that famous message from MacArthur: “I shall return”. He told me how crazy it felt to know they were trapped. He was only 15/16 when he was there. I don’t remember which other battle this was, but he also fought off a Japanese soldier with his bare hands and also another one where he was nicked by a sniper bullet. He even showed me his scar on the top of his head. He had medals, and a couple Purple Hearts. He died in 2017, and he was a very proud American despite being Hispanic. He also helped my parents and my family during hard times RIP
I hope you will join the war against the People's Republic of China in the Pacific soon and prove how much you love America. If you survive, your grandchildren will talk about you in the documentaries. The whole world is waiting impatiently for a war to break out in the Pacific with the People's Republic of China.

It's funny, because I don't often watch the shorter videos; but every time one of these hour-plus videos are posted, I can't help but end up watching them.
This is an awesome video! The amount of detail and information given in the edit are amazing. From the battle plans set in a sepia tone, to the sound of the cogs whenever the day changes, everything is designed to give all the information you would want from an over the top perspective of the battlefield. Thank you so much for your effort. And I am looking forward to more videos like this for different theatres.
This video series has been amazingly high quality so far, and this 4h monster on a sunday is a great sweetener for the turning point of the war. I hope you guys make a megacut with all episodes at the end.
My great grandfather was a sailor in this campaign. I haven’t heard to many stories of his time apart from the fact that he took a bayonet to the face and lived, so I’m thankful for this thorough explanation. Salute to all veterans as well!
@TheCorgilorian same all i know is my great grandfather was hit by a shell and his Left hand was crippled. And he was in the First Marine Division Have no idea what battalion.
I almost felt that as I read it - a bayonet to the face - strewth! Indeed, salute to all veterans. We have a lot to be grateful for - we'd not exist if they'd not come home.
This documentary is a triumph of research, graphics, and presentation 👏. The good bad and ugly. Well done all! The best documentary of the Pacific WWII theater I've ever seen!
Besides mispronouncing about 1/2 of all the names, this video was perhaps the best documentary I have ever watched concerning this epic struggle. Truly outstanding.
There were a few errors though - for example Crutchley did not inform the two outer most TFs of his absence but he did tell the southern group that he was directly commanding and left a senior captain, Bode, in command. Bode committed suicide, because he rightly was blamed for his incredible errors such as not taking his ship (with radar) to the front of the formation, no staying awake to command the force in Crutchley’s absence, not advising the other TFs that his southern force was under attack (what the fuck?!) and after Mikawa moved off to engage the northern force, Bode just kept sailing away in his ship without trying to engage or turn back to assist the damaged ships of his force. In essence, Bode did every single thing possible wrong. Crutchley must just hear some responsibility of course because it was his task group naturally, but Bode did everything in his power to fuck it up for Crutchley and the other ships of the group. Once Bode, who was a distinctly arrogant and unlikeable character before Savo, realized the scale of his ineptitude and dereliction of duty, he killed himself.
One of the biggest lessons that McArthur took from Guadalcanal was "Hit them where they ain't" ... In other words, land on a different part of a targeted island farther from the Japanese garrison and make the Japanese march through the jungle to get to them so they show up already defeated.
As an avid WW2 history buff this is a great watch and very well done. The detail is truly exceptional and I will no pursue othesr and add my Likes to those as well. Thanks indeed.
I just discovered this. I am grateful for the amount of detail you put into this, much more than any of the other videos I have watched on the Guadalcanal campaign. I think I will be spending a lot more of my time watching Kings and Generals videos on TV.
It's absolutely amazing how much coordination is needed to conduct operations like this. So many moving pieces on both sides. The misplacement of a single piece could cost you everything.
The logistic capabilities of the United States were absolutely astonishing considering they were fighting a worthy opponent on two different sides of the world at the same time! Absolutely amazing stuff.
I'm glad you guys made this because I've actually been holding off on the Pacific docs until you release the long anticipated "full video" That will be several hours long or even spread out over several episodes that are 4-6 hours a pop, for me it's easier to consume that way, although I'm sure I'm in minority in this case
Very well done! Apart from some pronunciation (BOY-zee: Boise) this is one of the very best presentations I've seen, notable that the facts presented sync with many prominent works including Neptune's Inferno, Japanese Destroyer Captain, among others.
there is such an incredible wealth of information here, and an implicit great depth of research behind it. thank you so much for releasing this! i feel almost guilty watching it for free, i promise i'll make a contribution once my paycheck hits. thanks again, astounding work you're doing here
I am enjoying the whole Pacific War series, but I do find it hard to follow sometimes when there are jumps between theaters and actions. This gives a great summary of the Guadalcanal Campaign. Excellent video.
The very best and most detailed documentary I have ever seen for this topic. Thanks a lot for this masterpiece ..... And congratulation to all who take part in making this docu possible ....
Love this, please add more WW2 content in the Pacific and also the warfront in Europe. Amazing material here, thanks doing such an amazing job with historical facts!
The absolute best analysis of the Guadalcanal conflict. Most documentaries mention a few key battles [Savo Island] but fail in greater detail. Those battles must have been hell for all involved.
Thank you for making my late night dinner enjoyable at the same time learning the true depth of Guadalcanal campaign... thought it took me 4 days to finish the video, seen i only watching this after work and on my late night dinner... Hoping for more videos/documentary like this. Damn gonna Respect both sides how they fight it out, especially the unforgiven nature. Seen i read the Old Bread by Eugene Sledge I have few idea the hard and indure pain both physical and mental. Mostly the muds and constantly raining.. respect for both side regardless they were japanese or American for me. Damn that was none stop actions for the Guadalcanal campaign history.
i ve seen all the episodes of Guadalcanal campaign when they appeared and althought i am not a pacific war fan/buff/passionat unlike the eastern front, when this video appeared i said i will not watch as it s 4 hrs but here i am, finished viewing it :))) a testament to the quality of the K&G work and of course how sucker i am for WW2 videos :))))
Haven't watched this yet but really interested in what you have to say. I used to volunteered at a retirement home in the late 2010's and I distinctly remember this older gentleman named Clifford. He was a man with great manners and always of good humor, helping others, slow to angry, always appreciative of his caretakers. I remember talking to him and he told me that in all his years he learned that generally all people are pretty decent, black, white, Asians, all people. However, mid sentence his smile disappeared and a sullen look consumed his face as he said: "except for the Japs... You can never trust a Jap". Turns out Clifford fought in Guadalcanal and that experience was deeply troubling to him,to say the least. After watching the pacific I understand a bit of what Clifford went through and I look forward to this documentary. Despite everything, Clifford is (or was, as he may be dead now) a great man and its a real shame that great men are sometimes forced to go through the most harrowing of journeys.
I talked to a pacific vet as well who said after their surrender they were moving into Japan to occupy it and a column of Japanese soldiers was being escorted by. Someone opened fire and then everyone joined in. They just wiped out the prisoners. It's understandable but at the same time impossible to understand.
I have been interested in the Pacific war for years. I read S.A. Morrison's pacific volume of The Two Ocean War and many, many other books over the years, Such as Eagle Against the Sun, etc. The sheer amount of land, air, & sea conflicts in & around the Solomons is astounding. Recently I have been following The Unauthorized History of the Pacific War here on You Tube, which is excellent also. It is so hard to follow the convoluted order of battle around the Solomons, but this video put it in great perspective. Having the graphics and maps is really helpful. This has given me a better sense of the scope and ttimeline of the Solomon campaign. Thank you for this superb effort.
Very impressive!!! I am only into the first hour and the foundation or framing of plannng issues on the U.S. side was well explained than the books on the subject because you overlay graphics with the narration. I can't wait to get to the end. Bravo for all your efforts to bring this piece of history to life.
FYI, since Vincennes is in southern Indiana, we naturally pronounce it "Vin-SINZ" (local Versailles is naturally "Verr-SAILZ"). Gotta love all the former French colonial holdings around here that have... interesting Americanizations.

This helped me to understand some things and battles better then reading through books with 500 pages over and over, for years!
THANK you so much!
My grandfather fought in the Pacific campaign as well as made the beach landings and also fought on Leyte and Okinawa and the others
What an incredible presentation. Thank you for this professional production.
One of the biggest lessons that McArthur took from Guadalcanal was "Hit them where they ain't" ... In other words, land on a different part of a targeted island farther from the Japanese garrison and make the Japanese march through the jungle to get to them so they show up already defeated.
Commented, liked and shared. Even watched the ads😊. Thanks for the story
I can't fully express how enjoyable this production was for me.
As an avid WW2 history buff this is a great watch and very well done. The detail is truly exceptional and I will no pursue othesr and add my Likes to those as well. Thanks indeed.
Amazing depth. I really liked the detail paragraphs. The concluding material/production summaries were the icing on the cake.
I absolutely agree!
Fantastic! Love the long format.
Apart from some pronunciation (BOY-zee: Boise) this is one of the very best presentations I've seen, notable that the facts presented sync with many prominent works including Neptune's Inferno, Japanese Destroyer Captain, among others.
there is such an incredible wealth of information here, and an implicit great depth of research behind it. thank you so much for releasing this! i feel almost guilty watching it for free, i promise i'll make a contribution once my paycheck hits. thanks again, astounding work you're doing here
Thanks for being so considerate. Please only donate if you can truly afford it.
Thank you so much for the well detailed documentary... Looking forward for more...❤🙏🙏🙏
I don’t think I’ve actually watched the same video on UA-cam for 4 hours straight, this was fascinating
Oh, there goes my Sunday! Thank you!
Wow! This is the best documentary I’ve ever watched, and I have a degree in history so I’ve watched a lot of them.
I am enjoying the whole Pacific War series, but I do find it hard to follow sometimes when there are jumps between theaters and actions. This gives a great summary of the Guadalcanal Campaign. Excellent video.
Just wait until 44 lol
The very best and most detailed documentary I have ever seen for this topic. Thanks a lot for this masterpiece ..... And congratulation to all who take part in making this docu possible ....
Love this, please add more WW2 content in the Pacific and also the warfront in Europe. Amazing material here, thanks doing such an amazing job with historical facts!
What a coincidence, I was just thinking about the Guadalcanal and it's here.
Thank you Kings and general.
More power to you ❤
Amazing effort and delivery. So much knowledge and effort put in👏👏👏👏
What a fantastic presentation. So much detail. The graphics are great. Gives a great view of what both sides had to deal with .
Thanks!
We all greatly appreciate you're efforts in these videos, please take care and keep up the amazing documentary work!
The absolute best analysis of the Guadalcanal conflict. Most documentaries mention a few key battles [Savo Island] but fail in greater detail. Those battles must have been hell for all involved.
I'm on vacation right now and it's great to have such a long video to chill in the room with, thanks!
I lived on top of Henderson airport in Guadalcanal in the 90s. It was incredible how much WW2 ordinance we dug up there
Great video! Keep them coming!!! 🔥🔥🔥💯
Four hours of high quality educational content. You guys rock
i ve seen all the episodes of Guadalcanal campaign when they appeared and althought i am not a pacific war fan/buff/passionat unlike the eastern front, when this video appeared i said i will not watch as it s 4 hrs but here i am, finished viewing it :))) a testament to the quality of the K&G work and of course how sucker i am for WW2 videos :))))
I could binge watch this channel for weeks....
This video is beyond awesome. I love the way you put it ALL in one episode. Great idea. Thank you!
This is fantastic! These long videos are so well done and I enjoy the delve into modern combat. Thank you!
I never knew that 4 hours could be this so intense
Give us another 4 hour video! Great video!
The whole campaign in one video?!?! Christmas en my birthday in one day! Hold all my calls!
Thank you , K&G .
🐺
4 Hour Guadalcanal Vid?? Hell yeah, you guys've done it again.
Very impressive!!! I am only into the first hour and the foundation or framing of plannng issues on the U.S. side was well explained than the books on the subject because you overlay graphics with the narration. I can't wait to get to the end. Bravo for all your efforts to bring this piece of history to life.
A wonderful documentary. Thank you for making it, and sharing it with us. This generation needs these.
Thanks
This is one of the best and most entertaining videos on UA-cam. Thank you.
Thanks!
I have loved watching this and your other WW2 work. I hope there will be more indepth breakdowns like this in the future
Outstanding! This took so much research and work. Thank you
FYI, since Vincennes is in southern Indiana, we naturally pronounce it "Vin-SINZ" (local Versailles is naturally "Verr-SAILZ"). Gotta love all the former French colonial holdings around here that have... interesting Americanizations.
Excellent work. When I first started watching, I had not dreamed how detailed this documentary would be.
This series is amazing then you roll it all into one... What a team
