Applicants apply to their home state, but if they get accepted, they can choose to go to any of the regions that are part of the program. There would be no reason to apply to a different region because they can go to any of them.

I wasn't aware of that as being an option as each region has a limited number of spots.
This was the statement from the UWSOM that I based my comment off of, "Applicants from each of the WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho) states will be considered for admission into their state’s cohort. For example, applicants with Idaho listed as their legal state of residence are automatically considered for the Idaho cohort and, if invited, will interview in Idaho for one of their seats. Applicants from out-of-region will be considered for the Seattle cohort."
If you have more insight into this, it would be great for you to share! I will also reach out to a current MS4 at UWSOM to clarify on this. Thank you for bringing this to my attention!
