I like the way you share your summary and opinion of the films you watched. Good command of English, correct use of adjectives, and easy to understand flow of thoughts. I will subscribe to you now.

Oh Canada was such an interesting and challenging experience. I personally feel like you kinda missed the point of the film but I get it, it is divisive and a lot of people just aren't on it's wavelenght. You say that the interview is used as a framing device to tell his story "like in 100 other films before" and it doesn't bring anything new. And it is just telling us that he is dying? Give me a break. It's not used to tell his story, he rather uses it to demystify it, to destroy it. We learn that the whole narrative around him (by others and himself) is based on a made up identity and that seems to have worked quite well for him. But with that comes the burden of emptiness for nobody, not even his wife who "loves" him, really knows him. I think the film gives a lot of food for thought about the correlation of the image of ourself that we create and reproduce for others and the ability of truly feeling seen or loved. In that way I feel like you are wrong when you say the interview as the framing device doesn't add anything to the story "other than that he is dying". It clearly serves to show WHY (to this point in his life) he chose to reproduce a certain story about himself and WHERE that led him as both a professional/artist and as a person. The flashbacks go hand in hand with that because in the last scene - well I don't want to spoil this for anybody. But let's just say we truly get to know him, like he wished we would. The film HAD to be told with flashbacks, otherwise it could not have worked. Saying that they don't add anything to the story or the themes seems like you absolutely missed the point of the film.
I'm really grateful that I had the chance to see the film. For me personally it was such a good experience to watch a movie that respects and challenges the viewer. And as you pointed out, the formal experimentation really invites us into the mind of the protagonist. So yeah, for me it wasn't dull at all. It constantly kept me engaged and I took two pages of notes. There is so much to chew on and I will keep thinking about this movie for weeks to come. The ending was so well done, it just all falls into place. The way the story is structured and culminates in the last scene that give us the key to understanding what the film was all about felt sooo rewarding.
I don't mean to hate on you. I get it, it's Cannes and people see 3-5 films a day. But I feel like if you give this a rewatch, full attention and some time to marinate afterwards, you might end up liking it more than the first time around.
