Such a timely video for me! I have to go see the cardiologist that I was seeing before as I had surgery a month ago and it is protocol to have a follow up. Surgery was for my stomach, nothing else. However, I went round and round with this doctor about statins. I refuse them and he didn't like my choice of that. Yes, my cholesterol is high, and LDL is high but so is my HDL. I asked about Niacin and his answer to that was he used to prescribe niacin to his patients but there just isn't enough studies to continue prescribing. My PCP said niacin is bad for the liver....my response: "so are the statins". I am dreading seeing this guy tomorrow and if he starts with the statin story again, I now have "ammo" to tell him. Thank you! BTW, my mom's cholesterol was over 300 and she lived to the ripe ole age of 95!
Marching into the doc's office with research papers to reinforce why you won't take a statin works a treat! Bonus for highlighting relevant sections. Cheers!
Taking research papers into the doc's office is sure to get their BP up 😀. I took printouts of the Mayo and Reynolds heart risk calculators to my doc, and he wouldn't even look at the numbers (9% without statin, 7% with one), just said oh, I'll just note that patient declined statin. They're not going to get into discussions if you come prepared, but many people accept the statin because the doc says so.
@@ssa8479 That fact that people take them and not question the doctor is truly sad. They think well the doctor is smarter than me so I will take them. The doctor may be smarter than me but I think statins are poison.
That’s what I do….take my copy of the book “The Statin Disaster” by Dr David Brownstein with all pertinent highlights and bookmarks for quick reference….funny thing is no Dr has ever shown any interest in listening to anything out of that book. I’ve had a couple of them say to me well,”I take a statin” to which I reply”Maybe you should stop”. Pushing statins is the biggest crime “big pharma” or to quote Dr Brownstein “the powers that be” have perpetrated on the ignorant public. Read the book,If you’re on a statin you’ll stop.If you’re not on one you won’t start. Just turned 70 last week….had a nuclear stress test done 3 years ago prior to having a 6.9cm abdominal aortic aneurysm repaired and they found zero blockages yet my total cholesterol is 250 or so….LDL like 170 or something…..I’m not taking any poison. The whole thing is nutty if you think about it. We’re supposed to believe that our bodies are trying to kill us …..it’s nuts. Like Dr Brownstein explains in the book, more than once…..blaming cholesterol for heart disease is like blaming fireman for the fire, just because they are at every fire doesn’t mean they started it. High cholesterol is a symptom….they shouldn’t focus on treating the symptom but rather dig into it and find the root cause…..the liver manufacturers cholesterol and sends it out into the body to deal with inflammation etc…..the inflammation is typically caused by a poor diet high in highly processed foods…..buy the book….get off the poison and save your life
I just say NO. I ask them if they want me to email the links to the research I've collected. My doctor doesn't push drugs, she's a nutrition/lifestyle type. Keep 'em coming Russ! This is a great channel!
Rosuvastatin OTC!?! No. I suffered multiple side effects, my cardiologist believes it was noceboes. If you decide to try a statin, I recommend you have someone observe you for side effects. Keep a journal. My mind was so “foggy” I didn’t discontinue the drug in a timely manner, but suffered for months.
That's a great idea about having someone else observe you for side effects. I had employees I was managing tell me they observed some unusual cognitive effects, though at the time we didn't necessarily make the connection with the statin (atorvastatin in my case.) And the cop-out about nocebo has got to stop. I'd fire any doctor who suggests that.
I had some of the same symptoms. I told the cardiologist that I was doing Taichi and Qigong and that it was helping my neuropathy. He said, "What is that?", and, "Maybe I shouldn't exercise too hard." After being officially diagnosed with neuropathy by a neurologist, he asked what medication was prescribed. I said that the neurologist said that the medication was for pain only and that we didn't need them. We also agreed to my exercises, which help considerably. The cardiologist never checked my B12 level or mentioned CoQ10. My PCP checked my B12 level (400). I am now on B12 supplements. I feel much better off of statins!!!
I have the same experience, for the same reason . B12 supplementation works wonders. One has to be patient, it takes a while for these nerves to heal. But they do.
@leonfuerst4790 I'm sure that by the guidelines, many doctors are "eligible" to take them. I'd love to see a study, even a simple survey, of how many doctors take statins.
A cardiologist I saw just before the pandemic had a heart attack a couple of years ago. He was very pro-statin, but also a bit overweight and very against fats, recommended low-fat, low-salt, plant based diet. He's now in his mid-50s and an otherwise nice person when you meet him socially.
I wonder now that the harm is done for several old people like my mother (lipit + synthroi) for years and now declined cognitively, how can we help them while they are still alive?
Q. A problem with youtube they can only make available a small percentage of your great videos; is it possible to publish (somewhere)a master list of your video titles to give your audience members an opportunity to make a request for a second or third go around of a certain video from your extensive publishing history?
One easy way is for an interested person to go to my channel home page and select the "Videos" link; all of them show up there. I could publish a list of titles with maybe a brief description (briefer than the formal description) on the community page, with maybe links to the actual videos, I'd have to think about how I could easily maintain that list.
When your primary physician talks to you, they are not actually talking to you (the patient), they are talking to your wallet (the client)…It’s all about dollar signs.
My general doctor takes statins, gave me a low dose because of my IBS. He sent me to a cardiologist, who wanted to up the dosage. Guts couldn’t handle it, so I had a handy reason to quit. I also researched, then demanded a CAC test. In my view, my results did not warrant a powerful drug. They left me alone after that.
The statistical significance is 2.5%, isn't it? Then the target group for the therapy is very specific, isn't it? When I ask about it, I got the shiny answer that there is no such info in the "cook book" and she does not know the answers.
I know! its the cause of cognitive effect of those drugs! also temper and muscle damage and much more. I quit and am once again after, over 10 years back mentally 100 percent a d people like me again and I can do more physically and am smart again!
Yes, I had definite mood problems and cognitive effects. One viewer of my video where I reviewed my personal experience told me I was prone to rage and was having angina attacks. That viewer seemed to have some medical background. I hope they aren't treating anyone.
No they don't and they just go on and on and on...Five visits to cardiology have been never ending statin lectures even after first time it was brought up I said I would not do it. I now have in my medical records I'm allergic to them and they cause horrific side effects...Dr has not got the memo, but more likely has it and does not care. LMHR here as well.

Thanks for sharing. Good luck with your meeting. I know it's difficult when dealing with a statin pusher.

@@ssa8479 Good for you! That bit about 'you decline', though. Must be their CYA - and a nifty way to deny facts.

Russ, thanks for the video. I wonder if doctors have side effect from statins? If they do, do they continue to take them.
Do as I say, not as I do.

I found a paper, several case studies of how doctors have been affected by statins. Look for a video on it in the next month or so.

Thank you for real world honest opinions on statins the medical community has become political in the sense that opinions are now considered facts

Most doctors are not prepared to think outside the guideline. It doesn't surprise me that she wouldn't know the answers.
try having neurophy from statins on the feet. You will love tylenol!
they also say you won’t get your cognitive back if its caused from statins and thats a lie also!

That cardiologist was definitely wrong. I had a medicine that was fine for me at 250 mg but when they up to 500 I had all kinds of problems.
