This album was an incredible example of what prog could be and inspirational to me when I was an early teen. I was learning classical guitar and admiring John Williams' work but what I was learning was transcribed lute pieces from medieval times and Spanish or Italian pieces from the 1800s. Then Sky happened and I realised there actually were no boundaries. Whenever I listen to Tristan Fry's drumming I always think of a line from the film Still Crazy, "It sounds like he's building a shed"! This is my favourite Sky track, so simple and yet somehow complex.
I really wish the BBC would re-show "SKY and the Red Arrows".... I'm sure I'm not imagining it, nearly all SKY 2 album featured on the soundtrack... back in the 80's. Wow. If someone has it... PLEASE post it!!
The first awesome live concert I saw was Sky in Norwich when I was 15. Went with my parents who liked the idea of seeing John Williams, and was expecting it all to be a bit la-di-dah. Then this blew the place away.
I have loved Sky ever since I first heard Toccata on the BBC radio 40 years ago They need to be listened on a full stereo system with large speakers to hear the full range of their music. And like the sleeve says turn this one up loud.
This always reminded me of the Thames TV Sci-Fi series ‘Quatermass’ (John Mills, Simon MacCorkindale, Margaret Tyzack, Toyah Wilcox, Annabelle Lanyon). It reminded me of ‘The Planet People.’ Eerie but haunting and hypnotic too. Great piece of music and such a cult album from the technically gifted prog rock band of them all. As the sleeve notes famously said, “turn this one up loud”....!!
Always loved this track... It makes me wonder, if Coppola hadn't gone with "Ride of the Valkyries" for the helicopter scene in "Apocalypse Now", this might have made for a great replacement... ;)
I was 17, at the beginning of the 80’s, this was an awsome piece of music - oh yeah, i got my first bike too

When I listen to this I always imagine the airplanes flying.

My first gig. 1982. Blackpool. I was 10. 300 gugs on. This holds up today. Amazing
The title and the melody match perfectly.🎉
Was at 2 live concerts in the Usher Hall, Edinburgh. Truly amazing experience and still recall the superb music. Awesome Jock Keith

Totally agree!!! Fisher Studio Standard system, turn the volume up until the glasses in the china cabinet rattle to the drumbeats 🙂

I love this "heavy" piece from SKY!

Thank you so much, just ... Thank You. Utterly amazing.
It's an orchestral icecream van, I love it.
I love this comment! Brilliant! 😊
When this album was released Francis Monkman advised listeners to switch up the volume loud
The big finish at 2:30...
