Your videos have helped me so so much! They have helped to take the fear of water coloring down to a minimal, manageable level to where I am NOT afraid to try and learn through my mistakes as well as rejoice at the improvement I am making. Your teaching style is one I can understand easily and your encouragement helps me to succeed. THANK YOU

I use my watercolor pencils along with my regular watercolors. It's not for everyone but it does work for me. If I'm drawing the human body in motion. The flesh tone pencils really help instead of using a brush. Then I just begin painting with my watercolor brush and blend everything together. 🩰🖌

For someone that says she struggles with the medium those Gouache Tulips look absolutely stunning. But they all do. I have a set of Derwent water color pencils that I've been wanting to try. This is a good exercise for that! Thanks again for the tutorials. I love them. Been following quite a while, but just never commented before. I love the tutorials. Also very much enjoying the mental health Monday video's...

I too struggle with Guache. I’m still working on improving my watercolor so adding guache is driving me loony! 😂. This 2 part class has been so helpful and fun to add in pencils! Thank you so much again for sharing your talents with us!! ❤

Albrecht Durer is my favorite. I started out with Derwent inktense because I saw several mixed media artists use them. I like them, but Durer is more vibrant. I feel inspired to bust out my markers now too!
    Gauche… ugh! I feel you!
I agree that the light to dark tulips worked better. I also agree that this is how we learn. Great exercises!
    I’m inspired. Thank you!

Great video. Thank you, I learned a lot from part one and two!! I love tulips but could never get the depth. You’re a good teacher and explain things well and I love that. My fav is doing the ink over watercolor where it looks messy, going outside the lines. Sometimes people can be so irritating when they think it has to be exact. When it looks messy, they can see it’s supposed to be that way so they won’t be so critical. I was never a flower person because they were hard for me. You make them easy, so I’m doing more, thank you for that. More instructions on flowers. Oh and thanks for showing me how to use my watercolor pencils I’ve had forever and never knew how to add the water on top..dah!!

I like this idea of making several studies of the same subject, both to understand the subject better and to experiment with different mediums. I have the opposite issue from you; I started with acrylics and other opaque mediums, and am trying to understand the logic of transparent mediums.
Both acrylics and guache can be thinned out with water to make it flow better and to make transparent washes. Your paint look a bit too dry for how you're laying it down. When I work in acrylics I don't work light to dark or vice versa, I work back to front. If a petal is light on the top and dark on the bottom, I'll add those values straight away, and then blend them in the middle. Basically more of the color mixing happens on the palett, it's only working the transitions that happens on the canvas. I'll paint the base color first, and then I will add both dark and light details on top as needed.
My biggest challenge in trying to learn watercolor painting is shifting away from expecting it to behave like a really watery acrylic paint. Watercolor requires planning, so that you do reserve your highlights. But at the same time you have to let the paint do it's own thing, you don't have nearly as much control as with acrylics. I love the look of watercolor, but it's still a mystery to me how I can achieve the results I want.

I LOVE the first gouache tulip the best!!!
Yeah … it’s exactly as a tulip looks when it’s about to open.
I’ve never used that medium but it certainly is interesting.

Thank you for these fun demonstrations. I have those same watercolor pencils but have not had any successful results with them yet. Now I am itching to pull them out! I REALLY liked the results you got with the Tombow markers. I have several sets of those as well, so maybe I'll pull them out, too. Thanks for the inspiration!

Faber-Castell have 21 greens in the Albrecht Dürer range and I share your frustration that they didn't seem to add enough of the earthy greens in the 24 tin. I'm now buying the greens I want open stock.
I like the blue you added to the leaves too. 😊
The textures on the gouache tulips are lovely.
I've put both parts of this series in my favourites to try later. 😊

You are so blessed with talent. I enjoyed this more detailed 2 part series. I love to use my watercolor pencils. I can sit in my cozy chair and watch tv and make greeting cards. Then the next day I can sit at my desk and paint them. I also have spectrum watercolor makers that I use. I just need to remember to go light as the pigment grabs on. Thank you for all your hard work. I really enjoy your videos and have been a fan of yours for a long time. Blessings, Sue in southern DE

I don't use acrylic gouache, but with gouache you work fat over lean like with oils. I start with a watered down layer blocking in my main shapes and work over the top using thicker consistency paint. You can work light to dark or dark to light, patience is key though letting things dry completely in between layers. Have fun experimenting and finding what works for you x
