  • Reptichip is my go to choice for ball python bedding. In this video I show how to make it perfect so it has the right amount of humidity but at the same time won’t mold :).
    Tutorial, ball python, boas, snakes, reptiles, lizards, eco earth, coconut husk,

    Great video, thanks man! I’ve been watching a ton of videos on how to prepare this substrate and this is the first one that really makes sense and covers all the bases. Nice!

    Just subscribed! Very useful video! thank you! I just recently bought a ball python and I've been using newspaper as substrate however, I'm struggling with the humidity. So I ordered one today hopefully it'll get the humidity where it's supposed to be!

    I had excess substrate and put it in a bin. But when i checked on it a month later it had fuzzies. Didnt want to risk mold so i tossed it out. Anyone got any tips or tricks since this substrate lasts so long when i spot clean?

    Would the type of substrate work if you live in a place like Pennsylvania just wanna make sure I get the right substrate when I get my own snake

    How long will a block last you. I know I’ll have left overs and I’m not sure how to store it and how long it will last being stored away

      So that really depends on how many enclosures you are making.. I believe they actually sell smaller bags of it instead of big blocks like the one in the video. I would store it in a large storage bin. It can last in there for 6 months to a year. If you are not planning on using it for a long period like 6 months, I would recommend drying it out by opening the storage container with the damp reptichip and then letting the sun dry it out for a day or two before closing the bin and putting it in the garage for 6 months before you need to use it again. :)

    Being that moist doesn't cause issues with scale rot?

      Nope but it’s actually not that moist. The bedding retains water very well so it’s not like the bedding is sitting in pools of water

    How many quarts do you think I would need for a 130 gallon tank

    • @scalezreptiles1813
      @scalezreptiles1813  Рік тому

      I’m not sure on exact quarts but I would say 1 large cube should be enough but two would be PLENTY.

    Do you bake it or freeze it before using it?

      @scalezreptiles1813  Рік тому +1

      I recommend freezing them before using to kill anything growing or living inside

      @@scalezreptiles1813 for how long? Mine has been in the freezer for about 12 hours.
      Also, would you freeze eco earth, or any other substrate like top soil?

      Wouldn't chance it if I have to bake it or freeze it with mites tbh. There must be better out there surely

      I want to get some eco earth too…do you recommend that? How long should I freeze that one? Or top soil?

    Got mites from a breeder block I got a couple months ago and finally think I’m
    Clear. I played it safe by buying off of Amazon. I couldn’t believe I got the mites from it. Now I’m not sure what substrate to go with. :(

      Put your block in the freezer for a couple days before you use it.

    • @Matwho

      Can confirm, freeze the block for at least 24 hours if you're unsure.
