With age comes the experience! Your son will be there one day! He has a great teacher! Love your videos!
I concur
Each generation gets better
Father and son working side by side...priceless👍😎❤
Absolutely
TY
I love work. I can watch it for hours! Seriously though, thanks for the great teaching videos.
Your welcome
TY
Best fucking concrete contractor in the game!!! Plus so informative !!! Cheers mate!!
TY
Another great video! My 14 year old son is now watching your videos with me. Thanks for sharing what you do so well!
No problem thanks for watching :)
Thank you......u r, i believe, a hard working man setting up a good example to us.
No short cut nothing n in fact you go an extra mile. Thanks
We try
TY
WOW. It's going to look so cool when it's finished! Great job.
Fingers crossed!
The tool race was hilarious! And also heart warming. He is lucky to have an experienced dad that teaches him things like that. That's how it should be! Not all of us were so lucky in that regard. Great video as always.
TY
I love watching you guys work. Thanks for the video.
Our pleasure!
Awesome Mr Odell, just what i wanted to know about, Thank You. Can't wait to see it all finished.
Stay tuned coming soon, thanks!
Another great job. Always put the line to the best facing side.
You got that right!
Still loving the DeWalt Reciprocating saw! Thanks again, it is a work horse! I just did some cutting on my gate with it. The gate has wood slats with metal frame (typical what you see with new build houses, just had the house built and moved in back in November). I cut the latch off, and cut out for a handle and deadbold box. Welded that in and repainted. Now there is a door handle and deadbolt in the gate instead of a dinky latch that was held on by two tack welds.
When I told my wife "sooo... ummm... I won a tool drawing on UA-cam from a channel I watch" her first response was "yeah, okay" then I showed her, and she got excited. I never win anything, lol. That and she loves a reciprocating saws. Anytime I did remodeling at our old house or did some demo work, she always jumps at it and says "okay, what do you want cut up?" Plus I have the line of Dewalt XR tools already, so this complemented my tools very nicely. My old Sawzaw had seen much better days, lol.
Yes I got rid of corded dewalt.
I really enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for making them. You do a lot of hard work, but make it look easy when it's in fast motion.
Glad you like them!
love watching these. you could mark 4" from end then mark in drill holes every 48 or 64 inches to install rebar first but is a knuckle hazard.
True
You do gardening too!!! WOW, you do it all!
True
Thanks for sharing sir I’ve been saving your vids to my remodel file for ideas and inspiration
Glad to help
That's awesome
Hi David, great job. Спасибо за видео👍
TY
8 inches will always make a difference ;)
I concur
Depends on how its used ;-))
😂😂
Omg. Stabila. Kick ass. thank you.
Get it on
TY
The throwing the dirt up the hill and then letting gravity pull it down is near genius. I would have made a pile and created three times the work.
Yes, work smarter not harder theory I love
Trabajo perfecto. 🇨🇴
TY
DeWalt vacume have you tried that for cleaning the holes instead of compressed air and particulate mask?
Great job and great video!
Thank you! Cheers!
This is a great video, like your work ethic and problem solving on this. Looks like you are doing a great job and are proud of your work🙁👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thank you very much!
I like the material, tools, resources you get in your country. Any your work too bro keep it up..
Resources is key
TY
Talk about another bad ass great job! 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
TY
lol operator! that was awesome. your son was like "angle" you were like or maybe i was just applying more pressure. you sure didnt hand it to him though and rub it in lol
True
Well done.
TY
DeWalt Chop Saw way quicker! Odell Da Best! Tks!!👌👍👊🏻🍀
Milwaukee chop saw.
ty
I learned the hard way to watch out with the Dewalt grinder cutting rebar don't throw the sparks at the battery on handle end.I melted a corner off the battery ( still in use ).I noticed some of the same type of action with you in cutting contest!!!
Good tip!
Older, experienced...winner.

this rocks
TY
sweet full send bro! ty for the video! Sunday funday! have a good one!=
Thanks! You too!
Would it be possible to run electrical conduit say 1/2” in size down the wall parallel to the rebar or would that weaken the reinforcement too much?
Yes
That can work
Great job👌👌💪💪
TY
Very nice.
TY
What product did you use for the water proofing on the back of the retaining wall?
Water Stop by quickcrete
nice work.. informative
TY
Hey David, been a longtime watcher and learner of yours. Im planning to do a retaining wall myself. I have some decorative retaining wall blocks that lock in with pins instead of mortar. Which base would be better to lay on, compacted gravel or a concrete pad? Thank you, and keep up the good work!
for that I hear gravel is the standard, but I prefer concrete
Great video. What kind of tool is he using at 3:00 into video to cut that bush ? wow that thing cuts !
I forgot the name
Very impressive this seems like it was very tough job
It was
TY
Good Job 👍🍻😎
Thank you! Cheers!
"Operator Error" now that was funny!!
I thought so
TY
You don't wet/clean the block / wall before adding the cement to help it stick better? Just wondering if it matters with the rebar and epoxy... you and your guys do good work.
The epoxy dowels are key to long term success
age + experience
Give me an old fashioned rebar cutter!!!
Yes that works
How long does it take to learn block work? I can form and finish and stucco.
Depends on the person
Odell Complete Concrete what’s the spectrum? From quickest to longest?
And which personality type lends to the quickest?
I got a 54v dewalt grinder (Australia) about a month ago, would have slammed that Milwaukee
I would like to use that
You don't cut corners. Especially when it comes to 'attaching' the new block to the existing wall. .. what kind of brush is that? and where do you get it??
White cap
Nice property she has.
I concur
Did you bond the top of the wall ?
Yes with epoxy and steel
I feel like 2 courses would have been more beneficial for the long term. Looking good though.
We may add another In 5 years.
Just a stupid question: would it be better if the blocks are flipped upside down? :)
No
This is better
Years ago I was working alongside my very younger brother. We were scraping glue off of a floor with hand scrapers, something I've done millions of feet of. We're going down a corridor side-by-side doing an equally sized area and he kept falling behind, even though he was going through the exact same motions as I was. After switching blades and switching scrapers I finally realized what the problem was. He did not know that what we were doing was supposed to hurt. They call it work because it's hard. If you wait for the tools to do the job the job will never get done. This kid is just like my little brother, he's holding the tool they're expecting the tool will do the cutting rather than the force of his arms. The good news is once I explain this to my little brother he was able to keep up. Also decided flooring instalation was way too hard.
Yes that makes sense.
TY
Legit work. I seen contractors just mud it with no rebar cause when all done you cannot see it. Lots of shortcuts
So true
Me too
What do you do if the existing wall is not level when adding block?
Match it most likely
Regarding the Milwaukee vs. DeWalt competition: Forget the flashy but time-wasting cordless cutting tools... just get a time-tested Willard rebar cutter. Maybe 5 seconds per cut, and you can do your corner bends with it too. And, no batteries to deal with. I'm a smalltime Gen Contractor in Santa Barbara. I picked up a used one 25 years ago and I can't tell you how many times its paid for itself, even on little jobs.
I have one I use for the big jobs.
@@OdellCompleteConcrete I kind of figured you'd own one. They're a little heavy to tote around but very nice to use. Mine is bolted to a 2x8 about 5-1/2 ft long, works quite well when I need it. Really enjoy your videos, David!

Yeah 3 points of contact goes for more than climbing scaffold or when tied off...but when that dude said "it must be the angle that you're cutting, more downward", but the rebar is a circle sir.
Get it on
Top top
TY
I was cutting rebar today with a 9" angle grinder, I didn't stabilise it and half of it kicked back smacked me in the leg and hit my hand went through glove and cut my hand. I was ok but it was a lesson learnt.
Oh no!
That's frightening
What kind of drainage system was used for this retention wall? No water drainage equals water accumulation, which means you will have a blow out over time.
Whatever they were using for the last 50 years.
Seemed to work well.
So you added to a retention wall, with out understanding how it drains? That customer just got screwed. Retention walls are serious business, make one mistake and the wall comes down. The higher you go, the chances for failure go up.
David you should always wear ear eye hand and respiratory protection be safe great videos
Good idea

Sweet 👍
Top ten every time
TY
Could you drill it before lay the brick.
yes
Do you know anyone in Philadelphia PA
Do good work like you in my area
Thanks
Not that I know of
You guys are too much. Your prices are fare and suggestions do the job. It's great to see the dozen or so U Tubers I watch for all things I do... Keep It Up...
Thanks so much!
Where is this?
Orange county CA
Yeah it's the operator
We will do it again and see what happens after a little practice
yeahhhhhhh first boiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

TY
Vacuum with drywall dust filter maybe worked better? Instead of blowing out those holes.
Thanks for the tip
Stucco and chopped off toes. Jk love your vids David!
Glad you like them!
TY
That's like my job, not so good quality tools but they expect miracles from me. But when they get new guy, they have to use newest tech available and I still get her done with what I got.
Make it happen Captain
How to get the Length and width of that area?
Multiply
What would be the given number do I multiply, not length but the thickness of what this vedio had
@@OdellCompleteConcrete I have an assignment in my major, I have to get the thickness and width of this building and set up blocks wall foundation
The mountain of soil above the wall is very worrying ! I have problems like that in my garden. The soil needs plants with extensive root system to keep the soil from eroding.
Thanks for sharing
@13:00, This is what Karate kid would look like if Mr. Miyagi thought Daniel San how to do block work.
Get it on wax on wax off
Why arent you using your Stihl hot saw to cut rebar? I saw that you have one, you used it real quick to cut a block.
Pull that diamond blade off it, throw on a 14" abrasive blade and cut 10 sticks of bar at a time. Way faster and way safer than using a grinder or skilsaw too
Occasionally I'll use the big boy, when I have a lot of steel to cut
Lol it was operator air 😁👌
Error
Hours and hours of work but edited into 15 mins 😂. Making it look easy lol
Yes
TY
00:10:30 little lizard on the edges of those boards on the right
A lot of lizards and bees around here
Operators operating correctly all others can just watch
OSS
No tying together the vertical & long horizontal rebar? Can't imagine you just lay them next to each other... there's be no connection then... maybe in your next video, but you are pouring in that one... ??????
Not necessary as long as it stays where you put it. Tie wire has no structural value
Is that the actual name of the tool, "chicken leg"
no
Operator error old school wins lol
Get it on OSS
00:12:30 not operator error, he's paid by the hour, you're not
Good point.
He won probably because he was turning the bar as he was cutting it. Theres less friction on the blade that way
Could be
Like I tell my kid old guys rule.
OSS
Both of you take for ever to cut it the rebar bender cuts it in 1/4 of the time
OSS
Old age and treachery defeats youth and enthusiasm every time!

1:16 what she said
I concur
Operator error !
OSS
first the dewalt wins then the milwaukee wins.
Its a win win situation
Operator error for sure...the left side has no pressure. So you're screwed
OSS
That guy was just scared of it slipping and cutting his foot.
Could be
nah man i eat rebar shavings for breakfast no fear here.
You didn't even prep the old surface to ensure good bond
That's what the epoxy dowels are for
They sure don't add in bonding will just keep the new course from falling off
😆😆😆 operator error
