    This was entirely pilot error. Failing to allow the wing to recover from the stall, then failing to weight shift to recover the cravat. Least he was over water.

    That is called a planned reserve deployment.. pilot was under instruction...his glider was never out of control...could have easily gotten out of the stall spin..pilot did mess about even if he is a seasoned pilot..it could have gone horribly wrong

      Lost control. Classic cascade ; Cravat could have been easily solved but then the pilot stalled the wing and the resulting uncontrolled release quickly became a SAT.

    That's why paragliders are inherently more dangerous than hangliders. They can easily have sail deformation and enter uncontrolled spin which can lead to a fatal crash. Like here. This guy is lucky

    • @iustintarachiu9326
      @iustintarachiu9326 2 роки тому +5

      This guy was not lucky, he was at a course where an instructor tells you to induce a certain problem (in this case it was about a stall) and helps you get out of that situation (some theory about the exercise is of course done before). This is called a SIV course: Simulation d'Incident en Vol (in flight incident simulation in French). Everything was set up: he had a reserve, the exercise was above a lake, most likely he had an inflatable life vest and as you can hear he had a radio with which he received instructions. But coming back to your comment, statistically speaking hang gliders are not safer than paragliders by a wide margin, the safety difference between them is quite small. Indeed, you can have canopy collapses, but usually they are easy to handle, some paragliders (EN-A) are safer and most stable than others (EN-D) with lower performance as a cost. That's why paragliding is considered a safe sport, safer than riding a motorcycle for example (check the statistics if you don't believe me) and the vast majority of accidents are caused by pilot error.

      @Renato.Stiefenhofer.747driver 2 роки тому +3

      @@iustintarachiu9326 Both of you are right. Hang gliders are more stable and require way more training than para gliders. Paragliding is a relatively easy to learn way of "a kind of flying". No disrespect, but it takes much more skills, training and brains to steer a hang glider than steering a gliding parachute.
      Yes, hang gliding is statistically more dangerous (per flight). But it's done by over all better trained pilots. I have done both, for many years. I still fly many different kinds of airplanes, from the P-51 Mustang to the Boeing 747-8 jumbojet. Flying is dangerous. That's a no brainer. As a humble and focused pilot you can limit the amount of stupid mistakes and fly safely for decades. But never take anything for granted; every pilot can make mistakes, anytime!
      Happy landings and enjoy para- and hanggliding. And learn to say NO , if the conditions are not perfect! Greets from Switzerland. ✈

    • @atomicdynamo6062
      @atomicdynamo6062 2 роки тому

      @@iustintarachiu9326You are wrong. Here's info straight from Google: "While paragliding is easier to learn, hang gliding is actually considered to be the safer for competent pilots. The additional weight and rigid structure of a hang glider allows it to travel at higher speed and be less susceptible to wind and weather conditions."

    • @iustintarachiu9326
      @iustintarachiu9326 2 роки тому +1

      @@atomicdynamo6062 With the risk of starting another Internet useless discussion, I don't understand why you said I am wrong. I said that hang gliders are not safer BY A WIDE MARGIN, meaning that yes, hang gliders are safer than paragliders, but the difference is not that big. Let's talk some numbers: according to BHPA, there have been 5389 paragliding accidents in the UK between 2011 and 2018. In that same period there have been 1009 hang gliding accidents, BUT in the UK there are 5 paragliders for each hang glider, meaning there are 5 times as much paraglider pilots than hang glider pilots. The ratio between the two accident numbers is 5.34, which means that paragliding has in average 6,8% more accidents than hang gliders which, in my opinion, is not a wide margin.

    • @atomicdynamo6062
      @atomicdynamo6062 2 роки тому

      @@iustintarachiu9326Awww... I just wanted to annoy you. LOL...But seriously I don't mind if you are right in some way if that makes you feel better. As long as people can fly safely that's all that matters. I flew hang gliders for many years and myself crashed in the ocean when I was a beginner. Almost drowned. There are inherent risks in all flying devices. As far as paragliders, they are sluggish to respond and have terrible penetration. Good luck if you get caught in bad weather! I think they are very dangerous. For example a tuck on a hang glider has some small possibility of recovery. But on a paraglider it's a death sentence because you'll get tangled in the chute and lines and won't even be able to throw a recovery parachute. People who fly them must be either very skilled or very brave. Stay safe.
