It amazes me the amount of BS you have to spew at a company to get them hire you. They end up hiring a good talker.

I know right, they end up hiring real good liars, not good hard workers in the end.

This is really aggravating how this question basically requires you to brown nose your way into the company's good side. I understand wanting to hire the right person for long term, but if you're a young person getting interviewed for a low level job as a busser or in fast food, why the heck do you think I'm here?!? Sorry, thanks for the help Snagajob, and I don't mean to just sound like whiny cynic, but I really hate and fail to understand this question.

I know how that feels, but Automotive Pioneer Henry Ford said, "FAILURE IS THE OPPORTUNITY TO BEGIN AGAIN, THIS TIME MORE WISELY." Ever since I read that I've learned from my mistakes, e.i, I had 5 interviews which didn't get a job, so I analyzed what I did wrong in each one, and it soon dawned on me what they were, and for the 6th interview I got hired. Good luck in you job-hunting, and don't give up!

  • @Snagco

Great question, Andrew. You don't have to but sometimes it can help you communicate but at the same time you don't want to use your hands too much, move them too fast, or use big motions because that can be distracting. But don't over-think it! The main thing you want to remember is to be yourself!

Thank you for your advice, no callback yet from either place. What's interesting is that the interview with my second choice went worse than my first-choice interview... lol.
I think the first one was probably my best interview yet :) It was fun and I learned a lot. Now i'm just crossing my fingers that I'll get the job, the manager seemed to really like that I volunteer at a Thrift shop near my house.

I'm sorry to hear about that, Deborah. Are you checking your applications and resumes for errors and typos? We here that this is one of the main reasons people get overlooked. Also, are you following up on your job applications? That's a great way to stand out to employers! As for your previous addresses, I can't really speak for employers on how much they weigh each part of the application. It really depends on the employer's preference.

Hi, Mark. I can't seem to find what you're looking at but it's probably a log in for their online application. The employer may want you to create an account on their system.

  • @Snagco
    @Snagco  12 років тому

Good question. You may not want to use the word "procrastinate" as it may lead the interviewer to believe you aren't very proactive. If you procrastinate because you are working on a lot of other projects or tasks, I would talk more about trying to do too much and working on how you prioritize items on your to-do list.

    notes:
they ask this question to know if you're looking for their job or just any job. Answers:
focus on the company itself, research them- talk about what about them you admire? have they won any awards?
focus on what the role means to you & why you're a great fit (skills, passion and experience)
    Mutually alligned goals
    2:10 example of this
    PRACTICE, PRACTICE....PRACTICE!

But I do have a question, I would much rather have one of the jobs I'm getting an interview for over the other, but if the one that's my second choice calls first, what do I do? Frankly, I just need to get a job, I've only ever had experience volunteering at a thrift shop.

This was helpful! I looked up the website to try to personalize my answer for "why I want to work here." I have my second interview of the summer tomorrow morning (I just got the call to schedule the interview today) so unfortunately I do not have time to really practice. My dad told me not to talk about my school accomplishments and only talk about past work experience but the problem is I have only had one other job at Dunkin Donuts and the job I am interviewing for is a clerical position so I don;t really think they will be impressed with me or my past experience.

Hi *****! That's very exciting. Check out this article for some tips for your second interview: www.snagajob.com/resources/tips-for-your-second-interview/.
I think you're okay to talk about extracurricular school experience to go over your dedication, attention to detail and organizational skills. All of which are important in a clerical position. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Great question, Deborah. We have a video that may help you with following up. Check out our the video "Follow up on job applications" from the "How to find a job" playlist on our UA-cam channel and let us know if you have any questions. As for the background check, it really depends on what kind of checks they are doing. I know that's not incredibly helpful and I'm sorry about that. Your best bet is to be honest with questions they ask you on an application.

Take your time with these types of questions. Employers are looking to see if you've demonstrated the types of skills they're looking for in the past. If you're applying for a customer service position, it's a good idea to come with a few stories about how you've dealt with difficult customers.

Thank you for posting these suggestions. Unfortunately, when I do hear from employers they are telling me that they've chosen someone else. Getting real discouraged. I will admit I've moved around quite a bit due to trying to find a job (4 different states) If this is hurting me, how can I fix it when no one will ask me in to an interview to explain? The applications all ask for previous addressess, so I have to tell them or they would see on background check right?

I like to flip it. Why should I work for you? Excellent people are hard to find! When you know your value and have what it takes, it should be beneficial to all.

I hope I'm getting the job that I interviewed for today. However, the interview was very short {5 minutes} they didn't ask all of these questions only like 3 really ask any of these questions they only asked where I worked before {which I told them that I worked as a cc at king soopers for two years, and a sales associate/cashier 5 months} which is what they're looking for a CC and someone who sometimes works the register as well. they asked me if I was from where I'm from and I said yes. then they asked when I could work, {which I told them any time} and they asked me if I could weekends and holidays, which I told them I could, because I know weekends, and holidays are the busiest days for a grocery stores. Also Holidays as well, people come in even the week before the holiday to come and shop, so they always need help at that time. they did ask me if I had any questions for them and I asked if they still did the orientation they used too and they said no it was all on computer, and then they said ok and that they had other interviews, so they'd give me a call.

Soo got their email, did not get the job :( i really needed this job! Interview went well but i guess some other candidates had around 10 years of experience in retail. May be thats the reason. At least i got good experience.
