- We played a game of Counter-Strike on the original versions of classic maps, back when the olofboost was meta, nuke silo was a skill jump, & Train... train just sucked.

I think the narrative works because he's the hero, and I'm the villain, the story is just told from my perspective.

Overpass looks like a series of 1v1 maps all randomly stuck together.

Specially as a CT. If you double up with a teammate in any part of the map, it means you loose the site. Overpass needs atleast 7 people each team

Everyone used Olof boost and cts massively started to hate b site,at one point people hated it more than auto sniper in cs 1.6 and map died until the remaster.
I looked at how the pros played back then, and god damn, the skill level difference is drastic.
yep, people have gotten MUCH better at the game, this is true of pretty much every sport.

Exactly why there's no point comparing players and teams and debating who's the best across eras. Like the 87-0 NiP vs 2019 Astralis were both dominant in their respective eras. But you can't really pit them against each other.
A lot has changed in and out of the game to quantify every little difference. Game updates, balances and buffs and nerfs, player equipment like more powerful hardware, better keyboard, mice and monitor, shifting meta, analytics, sports psychology, etc. It only makes sense to compare how dominant they were in their prime.
For me (correct me if I'm wrong) NiP shaped up the CS:GO pro scene and Astralis leveled up the strategic plan of the game even more in terms of utility usages and decision makings.
I watched CS1.6 tournament for nostalgia. It was so basic and skill level was just mediocre by current standard.
Boy I would've loved a match on 2012 Vertigo...
We tried but half of us were having problems loading the map, unfortunately. This was the one I was most looking forward to as well... but sometimes things don't always go as planned and you have to make the best of it.
@@TheWarOwl it’s never too late WarOwl! If you were to upload “Competitive CS:GO on the most broken map officially ever in the game” (meaning CS:GO on pre-2019 Vertigo), I’d watch it in an instant!
I'd like to imagine that 2012 Vertigo is Hell, and that the half that did get in have committed cardinal Csgo sins, and the other half are those who are pure of heart

I remember 1.5 & 1.6.
Maps were the same for 10 straight years. A lot changed in CS GO.

welll... maybe if you don't count all the 'unofficial' versions, you could literally play 24/7 servers with 40 versions of a single map (with always one called 7331 ofcourse)
They were the same, yeah but CS1.6 got a lot of awesome map creators and playing lots of custom made maps was a far better experience.

I'm still cs 1.6 guy, I like cs 1.6 more than source an I like csgo more than source but I like source too, between cs 1.6 an csgo it's either one is good but if I had to pick one I'd probably pick cs 1.6, I like the old feel of the maps better than csgo an the movement.
Overpass was so weird originally. It's insane to see it's evolution to becoming to what we know today
I still remember when Overpass was like this, I hate the connector passage, it always caught me off-guard and the small camping hut on A site, I almost never played it. But now the current version I love it, I have 82% win rate on it.
I know you don't read comments as much but I wanted to say thanks for sticking around man, even through hard times. I didn't even play CS back then, but i somehow feel super dejavu about these maps...
You missed a lot of the good stuff because the game itself and the community back then were so different to what it is today. Feels like playing a different game nowadays.

This video really highlights how criminal of a decision it was by Valve to force ESL One Cologne 2014 to not only have Overpass and Cobblestone in the map pool(only months after they were introduced), but also include that randomizer which made it impossible to veto them both.
7:16 to 7:24 is such a rollercoaster of emotions in such a small time span.

Despite how bad the maps were back then, they hold a lot of nostalgia value. I remember playing Old Overpass, Old Nuke, Old Train and ofc Old Inferno. It was a good experience to see those maps reaching their final form over the years. Would really love to see more maps from 2012, 2013 and 2014. Those were good times to play CSGO.

I really like this type of video! It's really interesting to watch! I think an interesting idea to build on this is playing 1.6 maps in CS:GO possibly and seeing how they play in spite of how old the maps are?
The train is so perplexing... its like it was put in there simply to block that boost spot into heaven for a certain time. Weird how in some clips its there (Usually CT side) but sometimes its not there (On the T side)

Loved the video. Would you consider making more videos with all the other 2012 maps? Dust 2, Vertigo, Mirage, hell even Season too. You could also show more Nuke gameplay besides the silo jump and wonky stairs

I started playing CSGO in 2018, so seeing these maps in the state they were in is really shocking. So glad the fixes have been made to overpass especially!!!

One thing I miss about old maps is how for many of them the skyboxes were completely open... was it unbalanced, yeah, but I really enjoyed the mindgame of throwing cross-map smokes and just finding those smokes in general...

I always forget that CSGO is from 2012. This gave me nostalgia AND existential crisis.
Me and a friend were talking about this 2 days ago, we felt that maps have over corrected and regressed. Cache and dust 2 are examples of this.
We also had small conspiracy theories that valorant devs we're conspiring against csgo but enfluencing their map creation process. For example, one of the consultants for the new cache helped create valorant; they directly advised the addition of the window in mid which imo ruins cache.
I automatically feel better when Mr.WarOwl uploads.

A similar concept to this would be to play comp CSGO on the parkour maps on the workshop. Basically, there is not out of bounds so you can just go anywhere

I would’ve much rather seen a longer video with equal length clips of each map since I just recent started playing CS it’d just be nice to see how the maps looked compared to now
