    I love it how at 2:05 in the video to about 2:16 in the video Dere is shrugging what looks about 500 pounds, and the kid in the back is doing bicep curls with 25 poud weight's. and he is shrugging at a faster pace then what the kid is curling. You gotta love it.

    Congratulations on the proposal! Much respect to him, he's so great and humble at the same time. Awesome!

    At first I thought 'that's not a bad deadlift poundage'.
    Then he dragged it up his chest and pressed the fucking thing..

    Derek, you look great this year leading up to the Arnold Classic. I wish you all the best when you compete. If someone ca grab some footage of you while you are competing that would be great :)

    @Gr8fzy, It's actually even bigger. I believe that it is a 12 inch "monster bell" to simulate the circus bell lift at the arnold and the handle is 3". But at the smallest it's the 10 inch MB and the handle is 2.5 inches thick. Monsterbells are awesome, I wish I had one but they are super expensive.

    I really hope Derek will be WSM one day. His will and determination are unlike anyone's I've ever seen, with the exception of Mariusz. He is such a nice guy as well. I can only bench press around 120kg at the moment and watching Derek's video's give me so much and hope and determination myself. All my respect to you Derek, your one hell of a strong fellow!

    purely for grip. the barbell is too thick to hook grip and the overunder grip allows you to lift more weight

  • @gr8fzy1
    @gr8fzy1 15 років тому +1

    Yeah, I was talking about when he was doing multiple 414 Axel's. I didn't know that it was that thick, or that the bar didn't roll free. Make's it even more impressive! Was the 225 dumbbell a 2 inch bar also?

  • @digink

  • @BigPapaBear1000

    that frame carry is amazing, Im kinda happy knowing I can carry almost a third of that weight.

  • @TheOpenSight
    @TheOpenSight 15 років тому

    I assume you mean when he does the overhead press? To elaborate further, As Mac said the bar is too thick to just grab overhand because it's a 2 inch axle bar. But besides that, and maybe more importantly an axle bar is a "non revolving bar" which makes it much much harder to do a traditional clean with.

    @Shumusa it's called a continental clean they suck but they are legal in strongman most guys grip get tired or can't hold onto a 2" bar when you try to power clean it when it's heavy

  • @Bruhwhatthehellbruh

    Is the floor press suppose to be easier? I don't understand what the benefit is of pressing on the floor vs a bench

  • @sirgalalot88
    @sirgalalot88 15 років тому

    Amazin bro. You know Travis is better than I think I give him credit for...taking third, nice. But Derek is just simply amazing. Considering this is the heaviest Arnold (maybe strongman comp) ever and he beat Big Z at it.

    I've been asking people all over, and I never seem to get an answer. Is there really an advantage to using an overhand/underhand grip on that barbell? I don't see how twisting an arm like that would help, if anything it looks like it might RESTRICT movement.

  • @gr8fzy1
    @gr8fzy1 15 років тому

    3 inches....god, it's like trying to hold onto a 230lb can of Pringles...

    i think they practice it instead of the clean b/c in strongman comps and in life you have to lift shit that you cant exactly clean like an olympic lifter
