  • HOW TO CHANGE THE UPPER FELT STOPPER
    ON DIGITAL YAMAHA YDP-140 ARIUS
    STEP ONE
    Unscrew the three rear screws.
Prepare your brand new upper felt stopper.
    STEP TWO
Remove the top cover of your digital piano.
Here you can clearly see the old damaged felt.
    STEP THREE
Take the second piano cover off.
    STEP FOUR
Unplug the keyboard from the processor.
    STEP FIVE
    Unscrew these screws.
Take the tweezers and remove the screws.
    Unscrew also upper smaller screws.
    STEP SIX
    Remove upper metal bar.
    STEP SEVEN
Unscrew the eight lower screws under the keyboard and pull out the keyboard.
Clean the mess from the old felt stopper.
    STEP EIGHT
Now, remove the old felt and glue tape with your fingers.
Don’t forget to remove all smaller parts of the glue tape.
And clean a little from below.
    STEP NINE
Remove the felt from the package. Be sure you have purchased the spare part for 88 keys - U88 CLP-911.
Compare new felt stopper and old one. Their width and length must be the same.
Place the felt on the metal hammers and measure its length from left to right.
    STEP TEN
Use the wooden pin to keep the felt above the hammers.
    STEP ELEVEN
Finally, stick the felt. Attach the beginning and peel the paper tape till the end.
    STEP TWELVE
Clean the space under hammers and return keyboard back to the piano body.
    FINISH
Screw all removed parts together and connect the keyboard to the processor.

Thanks for the video! My 2yo kid kept pushing pennies and cards in my Arius. We’re so glad we found your video. It made it so much easier to remove the coins.

Great video ; I just bought a pristine YDP-140 in cherry finish - now I just have to learn how to play it ! I'm due to retire soon , so this will be an indoor hobby I can get into .

We have just done it successfully with a CVP 105. We bought the felt on Ebay. If you remember where each screw goes, it is relatively simple. On the CVP 105 the lower felt was even easier to apply.

Just wondering what happened to that felt... The felt on my CLP-170 didn't look that bad after 16 years... This one looks like it has been under heavy abuse for years on! But good job showing the repair.

Thanks for this. I don’t know how I managed to not find it before. My beloved Arius has developed a bad clacking noise when each key is released. Is this the fault that you show the solution to, as it's not clear to me in the video? I tried contacting Yamaha several times but never got any response from them.

Hi. I have had some complaints from neighbours downstairs that this model of piano makes a lot of vibration when the keys are being hit. How do you know if the felt is damaged? What would I be looking for? Thanks very much

What kind of building do you live in? I am worried about this myself but I am hoping it isn't an issue. I don't want to ask the neighbour about it! I have got some sorbothane discs to put under the piano legs, I believe this helps.

If you use headphones they don't have anything to complain about, seriously. Maybe they just want to piss you off

@@LuisFlores-xr5bu What he is saying is that it is the physical thumping of the keys, not the sound through the speakers, that is bothering the neighbours. It is a surprising fact but apparently this thumping sound can carry very significantly in some buildings. Don't you think a constant thumping is something that might disturb the neighbours?

You 'll know when you hear it cause the thumping makes quite a lot a noise

I have a problem on my ypd-163. Some keys are extremely loud. I have read it is because of dirty carbon contacts. So I would need to dissassmble each key that is wrong (I would clean the entire keboard just in case).
Could you give me a hint how to properly remove the keys? Thank you

it`s a very common problem that comes with time. Since theres no video on YT that teach to reapair this exact same model, you can see video of people repairing their yahama keyboards, wich work basiclly the same. I recomend this video ua-cam.com/video/UVY86VwVBWA/v-deo.html which is a yamaha psr 275. The circuit and the rubber felt are not making propper contact so you will have to clean it an thats it. It may not work in the first attemp but after few repetitions it will work. I fixed my yamaha ydp 141 just looking to this video, first of all i repair my own psr 275 so they all work the same. I recommend you to lose the fear of doing it since calling someone to fix it costs over 50 to 70 boxs even the only thing they do is cleaning it

I have an older model of Yamaha and they do not provide any replacements felts for it anymore. Do you think I can improvize or modify and fit a felt for a different model? Thank you.

    • @novakant3048
      @novakant3048 3 роки тому

Are you sure about that? I have an old yamaha and they still provide replacements since indeed they are the same as that for newer models. In Canada I had best results by emailing them directly. They take orders via email only in Canada.
