      Only Thorin, Fili, and Kili died in The Hobbit. Balin, Ori, and Oin all died in Moria prior to the events of The Lord of the Rings. The rest of the dwarves were alive and well in Erebor. The only other dwarves whose death was recorded was Dwalin and Gloin, who both died after the beginning of the Fourth Age.

      +projectbaum wrong Dain Ironfoot died at the battle during the siege of Minas Tirith (Gondor.) When the dragon fell and after the battle of the 5 armies was fought,The city of Dale was retaken. 60 years later Sauron marched the Orcish armies from Gundabad towards the Lonely Mountain. Bard was dead by the time but his son Bain had taken up the throne of Dale. However HE was dead by the time this happened and HIS son Brand was King and Brand And Dain Ironfoot was killed. Brand was killed by an Orcish arrow through the back and Dain was killed defending his body. I am also a Middle Earth Scholar and I'm 11

When Kili died at the end of BOTFA and Tauriel was crying I felt nothing. They only had like 3 separate conversations in 2 movies. 2.) Don't leave your evil plans lying around where anyone can find it, and don't talk out loud where anyone can eavesdrop.
      The same with good guys:
      1.) Don't wait and watch the bad guy get stronger or call for backup, do a roundhouse kick or whatever and KO the sucker.
      2.) If you've mildly beaten the bad guy and he/she attempts to run away, don't waste that opportunity to finish the job by going to offer a hand to your teammates so they can stand up, even though it would have only taken them 2 extra seconds to do i on their own.

    Thing that is most wrong with this movie is that 80% of it doesn't follow book.
    1. Radagast, Legolas and Tauriel don't appear in the book. In fact, Tauriel doesn't appear in any of the books and was invented solely for the movie.
    2. Legolas and Tauriel serve no purpose in the overall plot of the movie.
    3. Bilbo is main character in the book. In the movies, however, main characters are Gandalf and Thorin, while Bilbo has been reduced to mere secondary character.
    4. If Legolas and Tauriel serve any purpose, Radagast serves to absolutely no purpose in the plot of the movies.

Tolkien had this ongoing thing where his books were meant to be translations. So his retcon for using the word "goblin" in one book and "orc" in the next is that they were two different translations of the same word. "Hobgoblin" was the word used for larger orcs. In the later books, i.e. LOTR, orc and goblin are occasionally used interchangeably.

Thorin was killed in battle and Kili and Fili died while protecting the body of Thorin from getting defiled. It is Beorn that finaly breaks through bolgs personal guard, kills bolg and brings the bodies of Thorin, Kili and Fili back to the camp. And the book says that after that beorn returned back into battle with his anger (and therefore power) multiplied a thousand times thereby driving off the rest of the orc army. Thorin then only lives long enough to forgive bilbo and thank him for all he did. Later on Dain becomes the new King of Erebor and Thorin, Kili and Filis graves are set in the deepest, most holy part of erebor and the arcenstone is put upon thorins grave. The book also tells that the arcenstone on Thorins grave would lit up whenever danger approached Erebor.

    Ive watched this so many times but the 103rd sin, at 10:52, has always bugged me.
    Since they are in a forge area, it's pretty safe to presume that the wheelbarrow that Thorin used for a raft is made out of iron (An extremely common substance). The melting point of gold is only 1,948°F, while the melting point of iron is 2,800°F. So no, the wheelbarrow shouldnt even be close to melting.
    To debunk the second part of the sin: Almost every account of dwarves that I can think of have dwarves being heat and fire resistant. Thus them having GIGANTIC FUCKING FORGES in the first place. My sin for this trilogy is the whole 'contrived-Elf-Dwarf-Elf-love-triangle' B.S. that was not even in the book, involving characters that weren't in the book, and both bloated the runtime immeasurably and sucked screen time away from things that were actually IN the book and deserved to be fleshed out. My sin for this movie in particular is the fact that they didn't give Beorn hardly ANY screen time and completely screwed up his character... and on that topic I suppose I should mention my unending F-U-R-Y over the fact that Ron Perlman wasn't cast as Beorn (he was supposed to be), and the fact that this movie wasn't directed by Guillermo del Toro (like it was supposed to be). del Toro already had the costumes designed, the dragon fleshed out, and Ron Perlman cast, but the studio kept him waiting so long that he got fed up and dropped out. Personally, Tauriel is the biggest sin of the entire Hobbit trilogy b/c several of the trilogy's biggest sins are the result of this HORRIBLE character
      Here are a few examples:
      -Tauriel is one of the most painful examples of a Mary Sue. A character written so poorly she makes OCs by fanfic writers look developed and balanced in comparison.
      -A character arc w/ an even more pointless payoff to the overall story summed up in "I'm sad."
      -Pointless character Tauriel takes away time from characters who were actually in the book.
      -The pointless Elf-Dwarf-Elf love triangle
      -A forced pointless romance destined only for tragedy (anyone who read the Hobbit knows Kili dies and the romance is doomed to fail. Its like a kid reading Romeo & Juliet knowing that they die at the end, but unlike Shakespeare, Jackson and the other screenwriters can't do it well or competently for that matter).
      -Kili being stabbed by a Morgul blade serves no reason except to add more pointless "tension" to the already forced, pointless love story.
      -A tasteless and pointless dick joke in the pointless Dwarf-Elf romance side-story.

Perhaps the Ring gave understanding of tongues, or simply understanding, especially of the servants of Sauron its maker, so that if he gave heed, he understood and translated the thought to himself."

    8:00 you missed the bit where Balin says "it never fails to amaze me, the courage of hobbits" but bilbo is the only hobbit we can assume he's met at all during the two films so far also as dwarves rarely leave their home to go anywhere else meaning Balin is probably really bad with wording

    Actually, my complaint was that they're already worrying about her.
    She specifically says "I'm going for a walk", or something along those lines, they say "All right," and she leaves. Literally a minute later, they killed the orc pretty fast, Legolas goes up to the guards and they say Tauriel hasn't come back yet.
    MAYBE BECAUSE SHE LEFT LIKE A MINUTE AGO?!?! IT TAKES LONGER THAN THAT TO GO FOR A FREAKING WALK!!!!

      The elves weren't worrying about her. Thranduil ordered all the gates to be closed and specifically said that no one would be able to enter or leave (and who knows how long he would wait to open them again), which is why the elf guards mentioned that Tauriel had not returned yet because they were going into lockdown and she would be locked out for god knows how long.

    The biggest issue is that the book only has enough source material for one movie, maybe two. They decided to stretch it to three long movies for a cash grab. So you get a butt load of filler and nonsense characters. Plus the Hobbit didn't even have the same tone as LOTR, but they try to make it the same. Which done well may have worked, but it wasn't.

    • @Sandman382

      Personally I could see three movies. But not the way they handled it. My initial thoughts was first move goes until the eagles which makes a good cutoff point*and I have basically no complaints with the first movie I felt they handled the filler stuff okay in it compared to the second*. Second movie goes till they arrive in laketown and meet Bard the archer not bard the smuggler. This would allow them to spend extra time covering what Gandalf was doing during his time away and the other events that happened during this time, explaining more about beorn*who they basically skipped over* and maybe even focusing more on the elves and the conflict between them and Thorin that will cause him to say 'no fuck you' later. Unfortunately they cut far more from the book then the first film to serve their need to shove in more filler specifically more Legolas and Taurial. My thought for the third movie was basically lake town till the end of the movie because I know for a fact they are going to spend a LONG time on the war at the end and they have plenty of space for action sequences that take considerable time.

    • @GrayFalcony
      @GrayFalcony 10 років тому +77

      Well, I wouldn't say, that the Hobbit movies are totally horrible. It just seems, they can't decide on what kind of movie they actually want to make.
      On the one hand, they want to stay true to Tolkien's stories, but then they put in a lot of new of changed stuff. This actually wouldn't be that much of a problem, if it would make sense or was interesting. But Until now the first two movies were full of unnecessary side stories to slow down the plot to fill 3 movies.
      It's basically a story about a Bilbo, Gandalf and the Dwarfs going to the mountain and get the gold. They put in the whole "war against the orcs"-thing, which is quite alright. But then they decided to put in Legolas. And to add a love story. And an encounter with spiders. And an encounter with trolls. And this whole story line set in the water town, with prophecies and even more unnecessary characters.
      Another problem is that they can't really descide on the tone the movies should have. On the one hand they try to make it an epic adventure, full of battles and brutality, with decapitating people. And then in the next scene we get "funny" orcs, musical scenes or that barrel scene. The barrel scene itself is actually not bad, it just does not match the serious, violent tone, that LOTR and even the Hobbit has in the rest of the story.
      And last but not least: The whole story just seems to be awefully predictable. Half of the characters appear in LOTR, so it is pretty clear, that they won't die. Then the dwarves are basically trying to prepare a war the whole time, so I wonder, what might happen in the 3rd movie *cough cough*. And now we even got a prophecy about killing the dragon AND a guy who once tried to kill the dragon and failed, but is now one of the main characters, so everyone can probably guess, what is going to happen.
      But as I said, the Hobbit is not a horribly bad movie. It's just one of these movie trilogy, that is kind of "dumb". You can enjoy it, but you should not think to much about it. And that's probably the biggest problem: The movies are clearly made for the LOTR-audience and these people actually like to think about the plot^^

      GrayFalcony The movie adds a lot of unnecessary fluff? Well, it's a trilogy based on a book that was shorter than the first book in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Kinda needed to add some fluff there, or we'd be facing a 90-minute movie adaptation. Whether it's unnecessary or not depends on the viewer, I guess. I was on the edge of my seat throughout both movies, so I don't consider the fluff unnecessary.
      As for the tone of the movies compared to The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit was written as a children's book. The Lord of the Rings was written for adults. I'm guessing Peter Jackson is using a bit of both worlds because the movies aren't marketed for children per se.
      And of course the story is predictable. It's the "prequel" to The Lord of the Rings. You're not meant to watch The Hobbit and go "oh my gosh, will Bilbo die?!", unless you watch the trilogies in chronological order. It's like calling the Harry Potter movies predictable. Of course they are. There are eight books - he's not going to die in the first movie. And Episode 1-3 of Star Wars was predictable, too. Look, Anakin and Obi-Wan won't die, because one dies in Episode 4 and the other in Episode 6.
      It's not about the destination, it's about the journey. That's why the book is called "There and Back Again".

What is wrong with enjoying something that makes you happy and that you enjoy? Nothing, so let's all just take a chill pill because there's NOTHING we can do to change the movie and just enjoy it for what it is. It's a new spin off of an old story. Go read the book if you want the "perfect/genuine/real" version.

    • @brendan1871

      Because the movies and their developers pretend like they're movies directly out of the book by titling them The Hobbit, IF what you're saying is true about the movie adaptation being seperate from the original source material. Anger is also derived from the fact that many, including me, put their faith in Peter Jackson to 'film' the book. What did we have to worry though, pssh, I mean the guy brought the LotR series to the cinema in an amazing way. It pains people further that we, as the entire LotR and movie-going community, had ONE shot at making a successful adaptation and that this was the result. Also, it is more insulting when the director adds blatant filler (i.e. the unnecessary 20 minute or so battle with smaug at the end of this movies) or a tone or theme that wasn't a part of the original author's message (i.e. the dwelf romance, like wtf!?). I mean, what is the message to the inclusion of Tauriel and her and Fili's love subplot? Is it that love permeates all races or women can be warriors and equal to men or was it just to appeal to Hollywood's need to put love stories in EVERYTHING, even when it is not welcome nor needed. While I support the first two of my reasons in general (I don't like discrimination), Tolkien wasn't trying to teach people that and as for the third possible reason, I say fuck you Hollywood for saying that you would put a story on the big screen as accurately as possible (Mirkwood should technically be pitch-dark, but even I don't want to watch that)

    • @brendan1871
      @brendan1871 10 років тому +8

      Damn iPhones... -_-
      As I was saying:
      then not delivering on their self-proclaimed duty while still taking my money. I may be overreacting slightly, but it is the fact that Peter Jackson got away with so much disgrace to the original work and advertised it as nothing of that nature, that anger as well as criticism are justified.
      Let's apply this to The Last Airbender. Many fans, such as myself, are angry that such a monstrosity exists, but in that situation no one defends the movie.
      I think the anger occurs not just because a director fucks up the movie in the eyes of a good chunk of people, no, I think that it spawns from the fact that movies are scarce and it is not like you get a new Hobbit movie every five years. Or, it might be due to fans of the source material now having to deal with the 'fans' that have only watched the movies and therefore, due to the movie's inaccuracies, misrepresent the original author's/creator's vision and now misrepresent the community. I feel that this applies to any adapted movie and while some of what I have typed is based on principle, it also actively affects fandoms/authors and what they represent. Thank you for your time. These are just my interpretations of the issue at hand.

      It's all about immersion and consistency of story and characters. If logical errors exist within either, then it breaks immersion and breaks the very essence of the story itself. Then it just becomes a nonsensical spectacle that you wind up regretting the time you spent on it. I dunno, I like stories that make sense in how they play out and don't wholeheartedly depend on timely coincidences to save characters from trouble, or rely on inexplicable plot devices to propel the story forward. If the characters are never actually threatened because they keep being saved all the time by things that don't make sense, then how are we supposed to feel anything for them at all? Lord of the Rings made more sense than what The Hobbit has so far.

    • @kelbywatkins7544
      @kelbywatkins7544 10 років тому +3

      I can completely see where you're coming from. But for me, I love the characters and the story so much, that just seeing or reading about either makes me happy, and even if there are "errors" in either the story or the characters, it doesn't make me regret the time I spent reading a story or watching the films. Its a spin off of the old story. No book made into a movie is ever going to be the same because every single person has different experiences and thoughts and reactions and feelings about the story, so I guess that's why I said why not just enjoy being able to see your favorite characters on screen instead of nit-picking the errors in the film. You also have to remember in order to get the most from the story, they made it into three films but the book itself is very short and Tolkien doesn't go into very much detail about some parts of their journey so we don't really know exactly what happens so just allow the freedom that the movies have. But again, I can completely see where you're coming from and agree with you on some levels. :)

      small creatures like birds, bats etc would find stuff out and talk to smaug about them, or he probably just flew around and saw stuff for himself

    I understand the books don't matter in these videos, but yet again, the reason Bolg is, as you say, a "discount Azog" is because he's Azog's son. Plus, yes there is a forest in Middle-Earth without darkness upon is such as Lothlorien or the Old Forest. But I understand that from the perspective of an average movie-goer, they would believe the same as what you made a comment on.
    Oh, and Bard is NOT a discount Inigo Montoya. The Hobbit (1937), The Princess Bride (1973)...
    I'm not being negative towards the video at all, just pointing out some reason.

    • @ZantofDarkness
      @ZantofDarkness 10 років тому +15

      I agree. First off I actually like what they did with Bolg in the movie. He feels different to Azog but you can see he is related. It just wasn't explained in the movie. Secondly I think Bard in the movie is more of a discount Will Turner from POTC. xD
      I liked this movie a lot but I wouldn't say loved like I did the first one or LOTR trilogy but I can see it growing on me. And also to be honest, even though I like the prequels (don't hate me), I don't think that Peter Jackson is turning into George Lucas. Lucas is a business man and always has been since the original trilogy and Peter Jackson is a film maker who in my opinion is one of the best. These movies are very difficult to balance. You have to please fans of the books as well as fans of the movies, plus make it still accessible for the general audience. Its a tough ask and I think no one could do it better than Jackson for the Hobbit.
      Although I will admit, even as a Middle Earth fan, these movies could have been 2 rather than 3, but I'm not complaining as its just more Middle Earth films that I will watch over and over again. I love them! :)

      ***** Funnily enough, Orcs can reproduce sexually. There are references to orc children in the Hobbit and other books. Its not explained in the movie but to be honest that could be said for a lot of things in LOTR or any movie for that matter. xD

      Um, he's saying the bard *looks* like a discount Inigo Montoya, as in the movies, I mean, there's like no argument here that the books don't matter in this case.

      D4haka97 Most of the orcs look alike because the are all from the same place in Middle Earth. In LOTR, the armies of Sauron are made up of several different types of orc and are very different in appearance. I think Bolg is a little hard to tell between the other orcs. But he is much larger like Azog and is pretty intimidating at times. I actually like what Azog looks like too. One of the most memorable villains in the series for me. Hes completely white, there are deep scars all over his body and hes like 7 foot tall. I can't wait to see him and Bolg in Battle of Five Armies. :)

    • @ZantofDarkness
      @ZantofDarkness 10 років тому

      D4haka97 I said you can see they are related, but I didn't say that if you didn't know that then you could still tell. If I was just a regular movie goer then no I probably couldn't tell that they were related, but once you know, you can see the similarities.
      Also its your opinion, but I personally think that people use the term "suck" far too mcuh and exagerate it for something that actually was not bad. The Hobbit movies have flaws for sure, more than LOTR but I wouldn't say that they suck balls. Batman and Robin, now that is a movie that sucked balls. I honestly don't get the hate. Either people are far too cynical, or they just hate them cos they're new? I don't know. I like them a lot, and I respect your opinion, but one movie? Seriously that would have been far too rushed. Two movies makes far more sense. Movies and books are completely different in structure and in context. You can give so much more inforamtion into a book than you can in a movie. I'm pretty sure if it had been one movie, then it would have been a messy jumbled and far to condensed version of it. Peter Jackson is not a bad film maker. The only reason it was three movies was mainly cos WB wanted another billion bucks from a third film.
      I admit, both Hobbit films were padded out, but I'd rather have a much more rich and detailed movie thats longer than a shorter movie that is very quick. 2 films was the minimum to tell this story as it covers so much more in such a small amount of pages, and I think 3 is ok as long as its balanced right that I felt these movies did well for the audiance they had to cater for.

    I was genuinely upset after I read the book. The Hobbit could have easily been one film (MAYBE two if you want to include everything). But the movies include tons of stuff to cater to LotR fans instead of the actual plot of the story. I understand that people are saying, 'Just enjoy the movie' but there are points that are just downright ridiculous and obviously pandering to LotR crowds that you just KNOW Tolkien wouldn't have written. It just makes me really sad. :\

      I'm a LotR fan and I can't stand these films. The inclusion of Legolas just pissed me off. Someday, someone should remake this movie as it was WRITTEN by Tolkien and draw inspiration from Peter Jackson's original trilogy. He certainly can't do it right himself anymore. I guess the years of success and praise just turned him into another George Lucas.

    Another sin: why didnt they just get the eagles to fly them to the mountain?! Instead of going on foot and going through that sh*t. It would make the movie a lot shorter, instead of leaving the audience waiting for a year for the rest of the story. Also, the barrel chase says a hardy ``f*ck you`` to physics.
