I see her as another character study into religious fanaticism, I see her mirroring Farnese. Sonia, her fanaticism is the only thing that has given her value in the world of Berserk. I see her martyring herself in Grifftith's name.
I’d argue it’s dogmas more generally than religious fanaticism specifically at this point. She’s not following any kind of written historical/cultural doctrine or orthodoxy. That still falls under the same umbrella of course but there are plenty of atheist or less religious folk who still have dogmas that lead to doubling down on a world view no matter the harm they cause (French revolution jacobins, national socialist, communist, etc). In the case of the story’s precedent; the band of the falcon/hawk had a non-religious dogmatic devotion to Griffy boy that was ultimately to their own detriment when not balanced properly.
We all know Griffith's army as "The Band of the Falcon". Even though Miura confirmed that the original, earlier translation of the army as "Bank of the Hawk" was a mis-translation I theorize he did this to cover up a big hint he gave us of Griffith's upcoming betrayal and duality.
