Another good idea is to place your tape perfectly vertical and horizontal with a level. Then by using the level on your sight, you should hold perfectly inline and keep everything straight. If the tape is not level and perfectly square to each other, you can be mislead into thinking you are inline when you are not. It just leaves less margin for error, especially when shooting at longer distances.
Genuine thanks for making this video. Brand new archer here and I've had a horrible time sighting in this new bear bow I have. After watching this video, took me about a half hour/45 mins and it's sighted in at 20 yards, finally! Thanks again for this!
I had no lessons and now can hit a target from a little under 50m away with a $260 bow from eBay ( So many lost arrows) I did get a release aid and a drop down but beyond that stock as a rock. Love this sport.
That will make the process so much easier for me. I’m on my third hunting season at age 43 so this is all very new to me. Thanks so much! I’ll give it a try.
Stacy Hathcock I just got my first bow just a few hours ago. I realize I won’t be ready for my first hunt for a while but I’m so stoked to finally be doing it. I’m 36 and also got my 10 year old son his first bow also. We are both very excited to be jumping into this world.
Great video. I'm a beginner... went to adjust mine the other day and let it slide right out the bottom lol. This was the perfect instructionto help sight in own.... again, 👏
I think this method is much better than breaking arrows. I got a new bow this year after my other one was stolen out of my truck but I will be using this method for sure.
I am brand new to all this. My boyfriend got me a compound bow for Christmas. Thank you for this detailed video on sighting! I will definitely check out your other videos!
Thank you for such a comprehensive and easy to follow guide. I have been killing myself trying to sight in my recurve and I think this will make it much easier.
Thank you much! I am new to archery. All my shots were leaning to the left/ bottom. Followed your method, and after 2.30 hrs of fine tuning, hit the center of a life saver!! (8 yards)Second shot split the first arrow!! So happy and Thank you sincerely!
Finely an easy to get my head around tutorial..been trying for a week to figure out how to aim in my new bow..thanks this is awesome and I am now getting a good results.
Thanks for the good info. It really helped me sight in the new bow. I'm not so much new to the sport but this is so far the best way to sight in a bow I've seen
Truly the best and most patient video explaining how to sight in my bow thank you. I'm new to archery and just picked up the axcel vision pro with dovetail trying to figure it out. Thanks again man.
Thank you and you're right there's hardly anything out there that simple that correct that brings the best results great job sir appreciate that God bless you and America
Very comprehensive! You answered all the basic questions clearly and concisely that a novice needs to have the answers to get set up and begin to improve. Thank you!
Thank you! Brand new to using a compound bow and this will help me sight it in... only thing I wish you had done was actually show HOW to move the sights to change distance. You showed the lateral movement for left/right, but you didn't show how you adjust them for the distance.
Awesome instruction, My son is the one that got me into the sport and I couldn't wrap my head around follow the arrow but it looks like it works. Thanks for putting this out there. Cant wait to get to the range tomorrow to sight in my new Mathews.
Picked up a bow on Amazon. It was sighted in pretty well for out-of-the-box use. I set it down with the limb clamps so that it stood next to me while I went to retrieve arrows. I turn around just after pulling the last arrow and groaned as I watch my bow tip to the left and smack clean into the wall, it flipped over and landed right on the sight. The very next shot sent it ricocheting off the ground about 5feet in front of the target. Haven't been able to reset the sight since.
Almost spot on, in the 1st step before jumping to your horizontal line, check your vertical another10y back using the same pin looking for creepage (showing string to rest misalignment) if it doesn't change your good to go to the next phase. Always verify you knock/release loop height, I like to keep my knock square on my string thru my full capture rest when stored so I know when I take it out every time I'm good. Good luck everyone shootem straight and tight!
So for example, if I’m shooting at a target from 20 yards and I shoot a 3 times at a target and the arrows are hitting to the right and low, then I would move my sight out to the right and down? Correct?
Just watched this today. I have been bowhunting for over thirty years and have never done this. Quite honestly, once it's sighted in you don't need to do much but maybe fine tune it each year or when you get a new component (like your arrows) but this is golden. I wish I had known this many years ago. Makes perfect sense...now that I know about it. LOL! Thanks!
Harley Me maybe that’s true. But when hunting you can’t take any chances. You have to be so dialed in there is no doubt that you will ethically harvest the animal with a hit to the vitals. Wounding an animal and having it disappear and suffer a long and drawn out death is worst case scenario
Don’t sight in your bow in with Broad heads... field tips if the same grain should shoot the same if your bow is tuned right... just shoot to make that are hitting the same
Archery talk has a video, (bow basics-quick tuning your bow). Same idea, but it will show you if your knock point is right and if your rest is centered. This will get the bow tuned as well as sighted in.
You're welcome! You wouldn't believe it, but I've even had a few bow-pro's not know why and simply tell me - "I guess that's just how your bow is..." Only to later figure out the real issue. This is especially common with archers who are new to single pin sights with the slider.
running out of room with your pins on your sight bracket has alot to do with where you anchor on your face too..the lower on your face your anchor point is the lower your site pins will be positioned thats why outdoor fita shooters at 90 meters all have to anchor with there fingers very low on there face,,if they anchored with index finger in corner of your mouth they wouldnt have room for the pins unless the bracket was like much longer..today with everyone shooting releases and peeps its not that much of issue as when guys shoot with fingers..
Great instruction have been doing this for quite a few years now only thing that seemed odd to me that I thought you would have a problem with was how you grip the bow looked a little tight to me I only hold my bow with my index finger and thumb in the groove and it helped a lot from before I was using my hole hand
I’ve been bow hunting fifty years , and this video is great , just exactly what the new guys need to see
This is One of the Best explanations to Sight In a Bow I have seen.Great Job!!!!
Totally agree this guy is a perfectionist 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻.
Agree. Nice job
Outstanding job LW! Keep them Flyin.
How’d you make that target
This method is by far the best way to sight in your bow!!
Absolutely perfect!!!
Just getting back into my bow and sighting it in, out of all the videos on UA-cam this is by far the best.
Thank you.
Genuine thanks for making this video. Brand new archer here and I've had a horrible time sighting in this new bear bow I have. After watching this video, took me about a half hour/45 mins and it's sighted in at 20 yards, finally! Thanks again for this!
Glad we could help jchast1980! Welcome to the wonderful sport of archery. Let us know if we can help with anything else.
This worked great for me and I’ve been sighting in bows since I was a kid. Thank you for the system and the straight forward explanation!
I had no lessons and now can hit a target from a little under 50m away with a $260 bow from eBay ( So many lost arrows)
I did get a release aid and a drop down but beyond that stock as a rock.
Love this sport.
Great and simple explanation on sighting in. One vertical line and one horizontal line.
Don’t forget to plum and level your tapes especially with a moveable target I just did this using a 2 ft level to get much closer
this should have millions of views...your the man thank you!
We are working on it!! Share away haha
Thank you so much for this vid
You have no idea how helpful this video was. Honest to god game-changer
That will make the process so much easier for me. I’m on my third hunting season at age 43 so this is all very new to me. Thanks so much! I’ll give it a try.

I just got my first bow (an ancient Bear Super 45) a few days ago, and I'm 47. I plan to be ready for business for the fall turkey season.
You're not alone. I'm 49 and just hunted for my first time last year (rifle). Going to try archery this year so this is new to me too.
You answered so many questions quick and without wordy over explanation. Thank you.
Thanks man! This really helped!!!!!!!!!
Great video. I'm a beginner... went to adjust mine the other day and let it slide right out the bottom lol. This was the perfect instructionto help sight in own.... again, 👏
By far one of the best videos for a new bow user, thanks!!!!
Thanks for kind compliments Skhylar and best of luck on your new hobby!
Old video, however, one that illustrates the best way for me to comprehend. Thanks
Thank you. I always called it chasing the arrow
I just got my first beginner bow this week. Great video for a noob like me to get started. Thanks
Nice job! Thanks for the info.
Thank you for such a comprehensive and easy to follow guide. I have been killing myself trying to sight in my recurve and I think this will make it much easier.
Glad we could help! Let us know how it works with the traditional gear.
Works for me. I have sighted in this way for a long time. I haven't found a better way yet. Great video! I subscribed today. Thanks
Thanks for the subscribe Tom! Happy shooting!
Very informative video thank you. I just got my very first bow and will be sighting it in tomorrow morning and I can’t wait to start.
Thank you much! I am new to archery. All my shots were leaning to the left/ bottom. Followed your method, and after 2.30 hrs of fine tuning, hit the center of a life saver!! (8 yards)Second shot split the first arrow!! So happy and Thank you sincerely!

I just got a new bow for Christmas and this video has really made sighting a lot simpler than I thought I would be. No more instinct shooting for me!
This is exactly what I needed haha ! Thank you! Every other video I watched was not nearly this straight forward
Excellent method and explanation on correctly sighting in your bow.
No problemo! Glad we could help and welcome to the wonderful world of ARCHERY!!
Thank you and you're right there's hardly anything out there that simple that correct that brings the best results great job sir appreciate that God bless you and America
Im glad you showed shooting with a closed hand.
I always have to remind myself that these videos are for beginners and that we were all new once. Nice, simple instructions for the novice. Well done.
I've never seen this technique before but it makes so much sense.
This is an excellent method for sighting in you bow. Thanks for showing us how to do it. The video and sound are quality. Thanks
this is a great video. putting identifiers on arrows to help single out "bad actors" is an awesome idea.
Awesome tutorial...just bought a bow and you made it so simplified to sight in...
Cheers, Kev.
Very comprehensive! You answered all the basic questions clearly and concisely that a novice needs to have the answers to get set up and begin to improve. Thank you!
Bro thank you for doing this video on UA-cam. It’s really nice and helpful. Thanks again

Just got a new bow for me and my step son ... this video will come in handy ... thank you
Well done sir. Lots of info and not a waste of my time.
Thanks dude. I've been struggling to get my bow right. Nice job.
best video I have seen for sighting in my bow. took me maybe 30 mins.
Jacob Ruppert because when you move your sight to the left you have to move your bow to the right to get the pin back on target.
Cole Kinnibrugh I know that. I have been shooting for 7 years now
Ha. I think Cole was replying to Travis' comment above.
Awesome instruction, My son is the one that got me into the sport and I couldn't wrap my head around follow the arrow but it looks like it works. Thanks for putting this out there. Cant wait to get to the range tomorrow to sight in my new Mathews.

Just finished setting up my bow. And was wondering how to sight it in. Think this made it a lot easier for me. Thank you!
This is how I start out every season, and after any tuning, equipment updates. Great method. Thanks for sharing
Best sighting in video on UA-cam. Thanks, man!
This seems like a real easy way will give it a go, thank you.
does it work for guns too?
Makes it easier for everyone to understand cheers mate 👍👍👍👍🎯🎯🎯

Awesome video. Definitely going to Try this during the weekend
Thanks a lot. Made sighting in a lot easier.
Thanks for the video.. Your sight in technique really improved my accuracy.. Very clear, and informative instructions.
I like this method because you don't risk damaging your arrows shooting tight groups. Why didn't I think of that👍
if you cant shoot a bow straight.. its your problem... hooking a sight and quick release will help.. but it WILL kill your natural skill.
Harley Me maybe that’s true. But when hunting you can’t take any chances. You have to be so dialed in there is no doubt that you will ethically harvest the animal with a hit to the vitals. Wounding an animal and having it disappear and suffer a long and drawn out death is worst case scenario
This is the best way to demonstrate sighting in.
Don’t sight in your bow in with Broad heads... field tips if the same grain should shoot the same if your bow is tuned right... just shoot to make that are hitting the same
@@christopherbrewer4421 exactly, different shapes completely so different forces inflicted upon the arrow.
Archery talk has a video, (bow basics-quick tuning your bow). Same idea, but it will show you if your knock point is right and if your rest is centered. This will get the bow tuned as well as sighted in.
Thank you for a straightforward approach. I have been shooting for years but this is absolutely the most simple way to do this
OMG! This was the most helpful video I ever watched! Thanks
This is an awesome video it worked great I have been having a hard time getting it sighted in but I'm there. Thank you
Good job, this method could be shared with beginners and even experienced stubborn guys like myself. Thanks for the post.
Thanks for the tip I'm new to archery and this helped alot.
Just got to say this method is soooo good.
Can we get a tutorial on how you made that big target or back stop or whatever that is?
best vid I have seen on how to properly sight a bow, excellent vid and clearly presented and explained, well done, keep em coming!
Easily the most simple way to sight in. Great video!! Very helpful!
About time someone posted a great sighting in video. This is awesome.....thanks
Dude! Thanks! In 48-72 hours, I'll be dead on and not frustrated going nuts trying to get sighted in and waiting for Bambi and Rudolph to show up!!
Thanks for the video. Someone who actually knows their stuff. Happy arching brother.
Thank you! Staight and to the point! Now I even know why I ran out of adjustment room with my sights.
Fantastic explanation !!
Thank you
🏹🎯
Excellent Tutorial
Thank you very much
thanks a lot for that, that's given me confidence to go try it and to also understand how everything is supposed to work. Really appreciated
that was simple enough, thankyou.
Thanks for the great video. This will help alot of people save time and aggravation when sighting in.
Thanks, man. Concise and very helpful. Just getting back into archery hunting after about a 6 year hiatus.
You bet! Welcome back to the wonderful world of archery!
Super helpful information. I’m a noob with using sights. I’ve always aimed down the arrow so I needed this
Great instruction have been doing this for quite a few years now only thing that seemed odd to me that I thought you would have a problem with was how you grip the bow looked a little tight to me I only hold my bow with my index finger and thumb in the groove and it helped a lot from before I was using my hole hand
Thanks, I wrap my hand around the grip, but there's little to no pressure applied.
Legendary Whitetails it would be nice too shoot with you sometime man you seem like a good knowledgeable person
Great video, clear precise explanation
well done! works for me. just got a new sight. thanx
Great explanation. I'm a new archery shooter and this was super helpful.
awesome idea with the tape thanks I'm going to put that to good use. Great video 🤘
Tell me of the Undercontruction of the Backboard your shooting into. What is that made of? I do like.
probably the most helpful video on youtube.
Great info! Such an easy and accurate way to sight in!! Thank you!
Outstanding, clear, easy, THANK YOU!
Nice idea thanks for posting, Will use this way a it makes more sense than trying to zero in on the X
Awesome! This was so clear, practical, and straight to the point. Thanks for taking the time to share this.
No problem, glad it was helpful!
Thanks Mate I will always use this method from now on 👍
Great video bro! Thank you so much. I really needed this education so I appreciate you! Can’t wait to try it in the morning.
