Cheers to your willingness to embrace the misery of nature’s changing ways. Thanks for sharing the experience. I am aware. I have challenged nature’s hostility as well. There was no choice but to adapt and make misery my friend. Bravo to your day’s success. Wishing you peace and good fortune. Happy Trails!
I hiked the AT with my son in 2018. Two British guys gave us a Budweiser there and I drank that beer the rest of my thru hike. It provided me with Carbs and Calories which really helped my body to recover. It was freezing cold and snowing when we left the NOC . That was a VERY steep uphill but the downhill before the NOC was just as bad. We also stayed at that shelter. I tented but my son slept in the shelter. Stay positive and keep pushing north! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~Maverick~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is why I hiked solo and never counted on shelters. Any time I wanted, I could find a spot and pitch my tent, without having to push myself. At the time of reaching the NOC, I knew I had to ditch my tramily. They were dragging me down.
Please tell me you tried the pizza at the River's End restaurant. It's as good as I've had in NC. The NOC is my favorite place in NC alongside Max Patch. Stay safe and Happy Trails!
You're doing great! one step at a time. The further up the trail that you get, you will find that your hike out of NOC wasn't a bad decision. That climb is a b***h but it is just another obstacle on the trail. You could have camped on that ridge; the trees were tall enough that you didn't need to worry about lightning. Wind may have been worse though. The trail is 10% physical and 90% mental. Just keep your head together and listen to your body. It does get better. Hike safe, Hike strong, Have fun! geek AT '90 & '02, PCT '08
Thanks for this! A couple weeks down the line from that day and I’ve already learned a ton and that day doesn’t seem so bad now :) funny how that works. Appreciate you!
That was a long day for you. I wonder if you’ll eventually prefer the climbs over the descents. I know many do so after they get their trail legs. I think I saw another hiker who appeared briefly in your footage taken at the NOC carrying a vintage Kelty external frame backpack. Am I correct and do you know if he has a social media site where he is posting? I’m wondering how that pack is working for him.
@@JessHikesTrails😅 funny. I wondered about that. It definitely rides higher than internal frame packs. That characteristic, like most things regarding backpacks, has an up and down side, no pun intended 😊. You’re doing great! Thanks for the response.

How far apart are the shelters I wonder ?
Always love the views from that ridge area prior to the Noc
Glad to see you got to the shelter ok. Ok, a bad idea but you made it and learned from it. Positive outcome in the long run.
Whew! I know you were glad to see that shelter!
Good video on cold rainy day, so let's keep on hiking 😊
I wish you a continued safe and healthy hike.
Safety always comes first. I been to the NOC several times. Finally all caught up.
I heard the hike down out of the NOC was rough. Glad you made it!!
I love the adventures
Love the trail
Don’t let anyone push you harder than you want. It’s your hike. No one else’s.
You made it!
Watching Jess hike… at night!
You made nice job 👍
Safe travels.
Hell yeah brother
Nice 👍
I've been following Soap's channel, as well. He's a top bloke (as they say in his homeland)
Fun time at the NOC, hard time on the trail, mix in a little irony and what do you get … I’m feeling a little AT fight now🙂
Did you not know about the climb outta the NOC?
Nope! Lol I’m much more tuned into FarOut and elevation conscious now

He says “It’s comfy, and I’ve successfully caught myself on every branch from Georgia to Tennessee.”

Is his trail name Nutter Butter? You posted a few names later in your video when a group of you were eating.
T-shirt and shorts! Summer has arrived?
I was boiling!
Do your own hike and do your own thing remember it’s your hike nobody else’s don’t bust your ass stop and set up camp
Hey chick loving the videos. killing it 😁
Question: what pack cover is that?
It was an REI cover - I ditched it. Wetted out too quickly
@@JessHikesTrails I keep flopping back and forth. Do I bring an umbrella instead. 😔 but I hate weight lol
Hi Sassafras, what app are through hikers using for trail beta?
FarOut!
@@JessHikesTrails thank you! Appreciate hearing about your kit. Sorry you’ve had some chilly nights.
