Love your honesty and vulnerability. Sometimes, when alone on trail, and you need to talk, talk out loud, seriously talk and cry to nature. No one will judge you or talk, nature will only listen. Talking out loud may move the thoughts out of the space it's taking in your head. Unless it's paying rent, let it go. You have a beautiful future ahead and a fun and exciting time right now. You are amazing and strong. Enjoy the Smokies
Love your daily mind, body, spirit, reset, Chasing Blazes "Frizzle" AT class of 2023 had a similar thing, touching the first blaze of the day with Gratitude, every day's a new day, there you are !
Sharing your emotions & understandings is very appreciated. Your explanation can have immediate effects on those of your audience who may be struggling emotionally or mentally to better traverse our day. You are a lovely life force & I am looking forward to fallowing your journey on the AT. I have aspirations to be on the trail and even thought I might do some of the trail this year and your thoughts and reflections help me get closer to making that aspiration and actual event know that you’re in my prayers. As we approach this Easter weekend, I hope you can take time on Sunday to reflect it’s your hike. It’s one step at a time. It’s one day at a time it’s one night at a time. It’s one new morning in new start at a time but I feel deeply you will be in Maine a top Mt. Kahtadin . ❤😊
Glad you got to meet Roadrunner and Lil" Chap! Roadrunner is enough to pick up any body's day! Keep your chin up, you are doing great things out there!
I followed Beer in Beautiful Places last year and she kept a cry count on trail and got up to 23 or so, but after burning her leg with hot water from her stove AND still hiking and then nearly drowning in Maine I thought she didn't give herself enough credit for being a tough cookie. You on the other hand I've got no doubt about....tough, positive outlook and mostly optimistic. Those are fantastic qualities that will serve now and into the future. Funny, I am already following Gadget, she's doing well for being a complete greenhorn novice,
What a wonderful comment! Beer in Beautiful Places is DEFINITELY a tough cookie! Appreciate that comparison :) And Gadget is tough as hell too. Glad she’s in my corner
The mental thoughts that go on in your mind are hard on anyone. But you seem to be a person that will get up the next day and smile as you take on what the world has ahead of you with class and dignity. You got this Jess 🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you for sharing your emotions. Everyday isn't going to be warm and beautiful, but just know that you are doing great! Wish I was able to hike the AT. Maybe in the near future. Until then, I will follow your journey.
Hang in there Sweetie! It is very good to find a friend on the trail that you can talk to about such things. It can turn your whole day around. The trail is 10% physical and 90% mental. Everybody has bad days occasionally, you need to understand that tomorrow is a new day, just keep it together until tomorrow. You can do this! You have the right attitude, you just have to realize it! Hike safe, Hike strong, Have fun! geek
Bad days will come and go. Just remember this journey isn't to make whatever you're dealing with disappear, but to help you work through it as you become stronger not only on the trail, but in your heart, mind and spirit. You got this Sass. Stay safe, healthy and keep believing in yourself.
Look at this way you have had 18 great days. I take 1 out of 19. We are here if you like to share. You have a group that will be your Ytube friends 😂😂 Six months is a long journey. ❤❤
“Forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me…!” Philippians 3:13-14 A great verse for you gal! You’ve got this!
You are showing some real character...you're going to be fine. The good days will way outnumber the tough ones...but I'm pretty sure you've got that figured out !!!
Hey perfect timing- feeling some insecurity and anxiety about some recent events and not ready to get out of bed yet, your sharing this post got my spirit into a better state- thank goodness. Glad to be following your journey.🚴🏼♂️🧘🏼🌿🙏
Try to stay in the moment…. You are doing great! Keep on moving and be thankful for each moment you get to experience, good or bad, it’s part of the journey.
Early thirties... The age of the shelter 😂🤣😂 My mind, body,.spirit is low in the freeze as well... Ask me about my 14 degrees in the Smokies in Shelter with Sunup... Im my Head Morning... We are kindred spirits and understand why you Love Newfound as much as i do 🥰‼️👍
Hiking-especially solo/silently-can definitely trigger lots of contemplating(for me it’s usually circular thinking) and affect your headspace. Glad to see you have folks around you who can counter those down moments.
I carry a tiny radio to pick up music of any sort. Always something there to help me cry once a day, even if it is someone else's sad story. Those universal sorrows can feel so personal. Reminds me that mine belong here, too.
It's a tiny 3"x4" Grundig I bought in Wyoming 20 years ago. All the identifying numbers have worn off. When the sun goes down, AM radio springs forth from hundreds of miles away.
@@brumleytown1882thanks for the response. I’ll look around for a solution. Yes, as the night air cools down the atmosphere, the ionosphere effectively rises which then causes the longer wavelength radio frequencies of the AM band to bend back to the earth at longer distances away from their approved area of transmission. You gotta love AM radio.
Whatever those “things” are that come to your mind as you take this journey, and no matter how challenging those thoughts are, graciously and patiently walk through them. It’s the big secret of long distance hiking that turns out to be a gift. As the Creator of all of that beauty walks with you the heart is cleansed. Hike on!
Sending a prayer out for you.
Hang in there. It’s great to admit to when it sucks. When you get through it you will be stronger

“ unless it’s paying rent let it go…” I’ll be using that one!!!
How lucky you are. There are so many that would trade places. I always hated those cold mornings. Keep it up.

Vulnerability equals courage

You’re going to have ups and downs all the way to Katahdin. It’s part of the journey. I’m rooting for you. Keep on hiking!

Sorry you were having one of those days but thanks for sharing, it always helps me to get it out and not just try to keep it bottled up.
Felt it was good to share that mental aspect - a lot of people come out here to address the past, but that doesn’t always make it to youtube
Jess you are getting what life brings to everyone but you are there challenging it, great job kid.
Thank you! 😊
You are a warrior and a champion!! Thank you for sharing your ❤️ heart!! We are with you trailblazer!!🙏

Tell the demons no matter what they say, we’re still all going to Maine.
That’s exactly what I told them!!! They can whine and moan all they want, they’re still coming with me to Katahdin 😂
A fine little stumble before the Smokies.. Rock on! (PS. Is ‘mental health’ what we used to call ‘mood’?)
Did you think it would be 70 degrees in March?
Spend more time at hostels and slackpacking. They want your money.
