      Shehz Man RadioShack turned into The Source. The Source sucks, and is probably going out of business. RadioShack had nice little gizmo's, and technology. The source sells crap.

      Dale Gribble Canada. Radioshack technically doesn't even exist. Unless the Source changes it's marketing they're probably done for.

      kipkay apparently an arduino can be programmed to flash itself with sketches? i dont know how this works, i saw it on hackaday recently. presumably this could be implemented with an IR Led plugged into an arduino input pin and writing a software that flashes the screen to transmit the code

    Average price of an Arduino board: $33.61
    Price for a high-end Raspberry Pi: $35
    For less than $2 more you get an entire computer system (that runs Linux), as opposed to a microcontroller. And yet people still use Arduinos?

    • @BadLarryFilms
      @BadLarryFilms 10 років тому

      ***** I got the Arduino price from the Arduino website.

    • @DemonTraven
      @DemonTraven 10 років тому

      ***** The ARM chips on the raspberry pi are processors as opposed to microcontrollers. The chip on the pi doesn't have any internal storage where you can store your code you want to run.
      So I believe that an arduino(or any other microcontroller based platform really) is much easier to start off with than the pi.
      Both have their own upsides and downsides and will appeal to different people.
      Conclusion: I agree with you.

    • @maukschilol
      @maukschilol 10 років тому

      Why people still use arduino? Prototyping microcontrollerapplications. And why use microcontrollers?
      If you need something really small with very low power consumption. For example the controller for a RC plane. You don't need a full linux on it. The microcontroller uses less power and the big advantage is: If you have a fullblown linux it is harder to implement real time criteria. on a microcontroller you know how many cycles you will spend for every instruction. so you know: ok i need these instructions, they take x cycles. 1 cycle takes y ns *numberchrunching* ok i'm garantueed to get a new steering direction for the current heading in 0.5ms which is enough to avoid chrashing.
      I hope i made a good example for you :)

    • @thatguyb3rt
      @thatguyb3rt 10 років тому

      Because as you said so yourself the arduino is a microcontroller based platform. It's for prototyping a project you might build using a microcontroller, this lets you figure out what kind of peripherals you'll need for your final build. Obviously you don't wanna keep building prototype boards just to find out you left something out you might have needed and this is where the arduino excels. People also just like to build cool little one of projects and the arduinos generic-ness makes it perfect for one off temporary builds that are just for fun. The PI while cool is for an entirely different set of tasks and is not really comparable to the arduino.
      Thank you DarkXTC as I was writing this I saw your comment and you have a much better example/explanation.

      Bad Larry Films
      - Takes much less time booting it up
      - Easier to use when creating portable/on-the-go projects
      - You can make your own barebones Arduino for about 5 dollars
      - It's much easier programming the board with another computer (or external IDE)
      - More power on the I/O pins
      - Fully open-source

  • @zacy5000
    @zacy5000 10 років тому

    Which works out the cheaper option? This is great if you are prototyping your own project to get it produced but arduinos are £5 from China (not official ones obviously but they do the job).

    Honestly, a regular Ardunio seems better. This is nice and all for simple stuff, but if you want to add anything else it's going to be a pain in the ass. You already have a ton of wires just from making the Kipduino with little room to add more. The Ardunio just uses circuits.
