  • Who can forget the Potato Boss? Suddenly it seemed as if everyone was getting "stuck" with this filter on during Zoom calls.
    If you've ever wanted to make your own Potato Boss style lens, today's your lucky day. In this tutorial I'll show you how to use Lens Studio to turn a boring, ordinary 3D object (in this case a peanut) into a fun Snapchat lens complete with that signature wobbly/lagging motion.

    It is also possible to get the background behind the model without the use of a second render target. To do so, you can simply change the render order of the two cameras in the Scene Config so that the Orthographic Camera is rendered first. I opted to go the Render Target method to introduce the idea of customizing the input texture of the camera.

    👋👋Hi, my profound gratitude for your selfless sharing of knowledge. However, after studying the two videos you shared, I tried to follow your ideas. After many attempts, I tried to use the two methods of "smooth follow" and "chain physics", but I still could not achieve the silky motion effect like "potato boos". Here I would like to ask, do you have other implementation ideas? Thank you🙏🙏🙏

    • @ModelsbyMike3d

      It is pretty much the same process, just instead of importing a 3D model you just add an image and add the face to that. And then you also don't add the smooth follow script.

      I'm actually thinking of revisiting this effect and doing it another way. Phil (the potato lens creator) told me that he actually creates his effect using a different method (but didn't tell me how). Using the chain physics script (available from Lens Studio website) you can achieve a similar effect, but I haven't quite matched Phil's look with it yet. But I have some ideas to try. I recommend you give the chain physics controller a try.

      Textures don't always import automatically. You may need to import those separately and add them to the materials on your model, or sometimes you also need to create a new material inside Lens Studio and assign your textures to it.

      @ModelsbyMike3d  3 роки тому +1

      If you want to know how to turn a 2D image into a 3D model, I recommend you look into texture projection (the exact method will vary depending on which 3D software you use). If you want to use a 2D image instead of a 3D model inside Lens Studio, you just need to swap out the 3D model for an image - you just can't add the same motion to the image. There's a great tutorial here that would be helpful -- ua-cam.com/video/7GNYbIi873w/v-deo.html

    • @ModelsbyMike3d
      @ModelsbyMike3d  3 роки тому

      It depends on how the material is setup on model and where the image files are - I don’t know enough to say how exactly it needs to be setup to always import with the textures. If the textures don’t import you can add a material and set the base texture and other textures.

      @@ModelsbyMike3d Another question though. Do you think Phil does something else with the eyes and mouth to make them look so much cleaner and clear? When I use his filters vs mine the eyes and mouth look a lot better.

    • @ModelsbyMike3d
      @ModelsbyMike3d  3 роки тому

      There’s not really another method to grab the eyes and mouth. There are several factors to consider - the eyes and mouth make up very small portions of the overall image, so if you scale the face insets up in size you’ll quickly see pixelization. This also means the quality of the camera plays a huge role. Something that looks clear on my phone will look grainy when I’m using the built in webcam on my laptop. And last you also need to consider your distance from the camera. If you are closer to the camera, your eyes and mouth will look clearer because they are made up of more pixels. The farther back you get, the lower in quality they’ll be.

      How did you export your model? I don't believe obj files will contain the bones, so make sure you export as an fbx file.
