It should be mentioned that, for quite a long time, the Komodo dragon’s deadly bite was actually quite a mystery. The inside of the lizard’s mouth is so full of dangerous bacteria and stuff that we couldn’t tell if it was the venom or illness that was deadlier and thus the true power of their bite. It was only relatively recently that we gained the technology to look into their venom better and discover that, although the germs in the Komodo dragon’s mouth are certainly strong enough to cause fatal illness, the venom is much worse.

I can remember the days when nature channels worked on the theory that it was the bacteria in a Komodo dragon's mouth that slowly killed the animals, and they just followed it around until it was unable to walk. It's so much fun seeing the advancements in knowledge and understanding happening within such a small period of time

HTTYD actually acknowledges the gas build up into fire breath as something dragons do. In the first movie, after hiccup and Toothless fly for the first time, a type of dragon called terrible terrors start to spit fire at toothless by building up gas into their mouth. But tootless shoots a small spark into the mouth before the dragon is ready, causing the gas to explode in the dragon's mouth. They show that because it sets up the ending of the final battle, where hiccup and toothless use the same trick to beat the red death (the big bad dragon).

Hi MatPat. Great video from the whole team as usual, I love Dragons too. Something to add about fire dragons, in the movie Reign of Fire starring Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey. The dragons in that movie have very detailed biological details that explain how they breathe fire. In their necks, they have two glands that produce different chemicals. They then spit the two chemicals out at the same time. And when it combines and gets exposed to the air, it ignites forming napalm. I always loved the dragons in Reign of Fire, and the way they were designed. If you guys on the channel haven't seen it yet. I recommend it. It's in my opinion, very underrated. Maybe you guys could make a video on the movie sometime. Keep up the good work and have a great rest of the day.

This video topic is actually something I've thought about for a few months for a personal project of mine. The way I've been rationalizing the Bewilderbeast's ice attack is by using super cooled pure water, like those videos of freezing cold bottles of liquid water flash freezing when they get hit. I had imagined their biology could filter out particles from the water (which they could use for nutrition to help get so big like a whale) and then store that pure water in an organ somewhere to be spat out later. Them being a tidal class dragon might also help with this as having the water all around them could help cushion the super cooled water and keep it from freezing inside them. They could potentially control the amount of water they release too to give a little puff of water that would freeze into ice crystals in the air almost like snow like we see with Hicup and Valka

The Monstrous Nightmare has Kerosene in it’s fire and the monstrous nightmare has Kerosene Gel on its skin and that’s how it can light itself on fire.
The Deadly Nadder has a Magnesium type fire.
Gronckles and Hotburples have the fire type of Heptaine/Oxygen + Rock = Lava Attack.
Hideous Zipplebacks have Ammonium Nitrate mixed with Anyhrous Hydrazine which basically means gas ignited with a spark.
    Night Furies have plasma blasts.
    Terrible Terrors have Propane.
    Thunderdrums have Sonic Blasts.
    Timberjacks have oil based fire.

I am SO happy to see that Matpat is doing a HTTYD theory, and HTTYD was my childhood, but something I would've liked to see in this video would've been the Deathsong. Like, spitting amber that is almost impossible to break as it hardens? Gives me goosebumps.

What I love about how to train your dragon is how much detail goes into it
The story has a lot of detail,
Designs have a lot of detail,
And most importantly the dragons have a lot of detail.
You can tell that they researched some animals to put into these dragons, by appearance, powers, and behavior.
Overall, I love movies that actually care about plot, detail, and characters.

Hi MatPat! Love your videos so much!
I hope this gets to someone who will take the time to read this.
I have a film theory for you!
What does Stripe and Trixie Heeler do for a living? A Bluey theory!
There is an episode called Faceytalk in season 3 where Bluey and Bingo FaceTime their cousins Muffin and Socks. Mayhem ensues and Muffin is running away from her dad, Stripe, and she runs past, like, 7 hallways and 25 different doors. She also says “we have a lot of couches,” and they have a nice outdoor pool.
Bandit is an archeologist and their brother Rad works on an oil rig, but Stripe’s (or his wife Trixie) occupation is never outright revealed.
Bluey has a lot of subtle hints within the show on the L O R E, but that’s probably one of the top Bluey mysteries!

In regards to the Electric attacks, I like the way that Monster Hunter handles it for the elder dragon Namielle. Namielle uses electric attacks by generating electricity through its skin but it hits it long distance by covering its surroundings in a highly conductive liquid it secretes. It can then charge its electricity through the liquid to shock anything and everything in the liquid.

Also, if we look in the books, the first book, it also has answers to the fire breath! They apparently breathe out oxygen, meaning if youre underwater with a dragon, you can basically use its breath to stay alive underwater.
Which was shown in How To Be A Pirate, I think.
