Nice. I'd be interested to see how you join the hull to the deck. Do you have any good ways to join them without creating a seam or a lip. Basically a method of joining them together on the inside. Be interesting to see if you can do it..

Hello, yes it can be done by joining it edge to edge, grind it back then do a gel repair, its a lot of work though! Another alternative is to do a tin lid style flange which also looks neat.
With this mould it has a standard flange which makes it quick easy to glue together, then it can be covered with rubber U channel to hide the joint, this also acts as a fender, but it doesn't look as nice as the other methods.

Boats and Engines thanks. When you say grind it back and do an edge to edge: do you mean grind it back first to create an indent where you can lay the glass without making it proud? Then do the gel repair?

yes exactly, also best to glass the back of the joint if you can, if you cant get to the back of the joint you might be able to run some epoxy in.

Thank you for uploading this, I am looking at making a drone frame. Is there any reason not to print the mould with my 3d printer rather making the fibreglass mould? I can easily print it as one piece.

Hi Garry, yes 3d printed moulds work fine, as long as you have at least 1 degree of release angle and use plenty of release agent. You may want to sand and paint the 3d print unless you dont mind the layers showing.

@@BoatsandEngines Thanks for the reply, if print with ABS and vapour smooth it with Acetone the end result is very glossy and no visible layers which would be ideal for moulds. Thank you also for the 1 degree release angle tip.

Hello I think it would be cool to see someone make an rc boat out of kevlar carbon fiber to make a bulletproof fast racing rc boat not sure if it would be to heavy to be a real competitor for top speeds

I'd like to see how you made the original 3D parts, then made them into a single boat mold. Do you have the file to make the 3D printed parts or do you know where I can get the files? I have a CNC machine I just built and could easily carve the hull sections if I can find files to do that. I'll make it from wood or foam. I still would like to see the entire process from start to finish to learn from.

Hello mate, sorry I cant give away the cad as it is the same as the real boats. To make the plugs i just 3d printed in sections then glued together. Sand and paint until shiny.

      Hello,
If you mean the RC boats they will be available in two weeks time here: www.alphaboats.co.uk/our-services
They will be moulded in high impact polymer with laser cut lite ply stringers and bulkheads (lighter than carbon).
If you mean the real boats they are available now here: www.alphaboats.co.uk/prices
      Kind regards, Chris.
