Fibre Glast really needs to sponsor you guys. I've learned so much from your guys' channel and they should totally feature your videos as tutorials in their site
I went to college for composite material manufacturing and repair. This guide is actually great. I appreciate the production value and the fact it's not as dry and sterile as most good composites videos.
I don't drift, I'm not making a car, I'm not into working with composites but this is in my top ten channels on UA-cam. I love watching you make shit. Great content. Thanks.
You guys deserve like 936k more subscribers than this... such good quality content. If it weren’t for Chris at B Is For Build, I would never have found this channel.
I think resin infusion is the easiest once you understand the process. You can work at your own speed and make everything perfect without having to worry about resin kicking. Much healthier than the other options too.
burninruber60 I think Tim is sick as fuck of carbon fiber for a while, they were saying no future full carbon car plans for a while. I would die to see a wide bodied cf 2002
@@StreetBandito Oh i think she looks great but could you just imagine a bagged 2002 with carbon doors, front fenders, hood, and trunk lid. Perhaps even a candy green over the carbon so its a little inconspicuous.
Is this a better use for multiple parts? I'm looking at making a batch of small parts and this seems like it could possibly be better than some other methods
Can't say enough about your content and editing. These videos enspire. I can say as a whole following we appreciate your channel guys ... As an S2 owner and scanning through a TON of videos ...Your content is VERY much worth the love ... @@StreetBandito Keep at it fellas .... I will be a long time viewer... Hopefully I get the day to shake your guys' hands and actual meet #StreetBandito
I don't know if anyone has said it yet. But to get the correct resin amount just weigh(I use grams) the material youre using for your part. then double it. That should be enough plus a little extra for just in case.
Just a heads up, but a faster/easier approach to gum taping is to apply the tape to your bag first, then the mold. That way you'll have less tape seams and less chances of leaks.
@@StreetBandito No prob boys! Love watching the vids. Another freebie is that you can apply the PVA with a rag too, which prevents it getting all over your shop and then you just have a thin tape line for your seal. All about time saving and consumables reduction. I work at an aerospace company with composites. So, if you ever have any questions hit me up. Also, if you plan on making a number of copies of something, check out Smooth-On videos on here for their silicone reusable bags. They're tight AF.
Just a couple recommendations to give you a better product, instead of 77 you could mix up some of the same epoxy and thin it down with MEK or MPK, this will give you the same amount of tack and will be the base adhesive so there should be an chance of reaction. Also I’d always wear gloves the oils from your fingers can cause disbands. Just suggestions, I’ve been in the aerospace industry for 13 years making carbon parts
VARTM tip: you had it all (nearly)correct, but you infused backwards. If you pull vacuum from the outer edge, and infuse at the center, then you will achieve the same results minus the resin going into the fittings, trap etc. This shape is similar to a boat hull, so if you research the VARTM process on boats you'll see what I mean.
Do you plan on either making parts using different pattern twills or any coloured carbon weave parts, I think that you could possibly match some of the interior parts to the engine bay colour
one thing you can do to help reduce the amount of air bubbles in the infusion process is putting the resin after it is mixed into a vacuum chamber for a bit to get the bubbles out. Also, when putting the vacuum bag down, when making the pleats, run the bag up one side, fold over a bit of the tape to overlap a bit. You will get a better seal that way.
LOVE this series, I really want to make some carbon/kevlar parts for my STi - Bandito series are by far the most entertaining AND informative videos on the topic. You guys are awesome, I really wish I could just hang out and help, or just hang out and watch. Chillaxin'
Oh, you think the darkness is your ally, you merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, MOLDED by it. I didn’t see the light until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!
i tried vacuum bag resin infusion on a tiny piece of fiber glass couple years ago and the piece came out all crappy and now i know why thank you very much for this vid
Would love to see some matte carbon parts for a more modest setup, a front valence, wing, some type of diffuser maybe, skirts. Would love to add some modern designs to my car without going full racecar
Last semester we made a carbon fiber +honeycomb repair piece for class but we used prepreg carbon fiber and heat blankets under vacuum to bake it all together. Really cool to see this kind of mold project done 👌 gj
Just a quick tip: sometimes not all layers of carbon are fully infused with resin, even though the top layer looks like it. I would wait a good couple of minutes before clamping the infusion line. (especially when you're making something with lots of layers)

And now I looked at the rest of the video, it's really hard to get it sealed properly. You had some air leaks there at the end, hope the parts turned out fine regardless of the air problem. My first vacuum infusion was making a Electric Skateboard all Carbon/Kevlar. HARD!
Street Bandito Good to hear, then the parts will turn out awesome 👏 Great job you are doing and also documenting at the same time.. I am also trying to do the same, but not so easy when filming and making parts
I always like to stop the resin before it gets to the resin trap, otherwise you have a hell of a mess to clean up. And Tim, if you want even better looking parts and easier separation from the mold, try wet sanding and buffing your mold to a mirror shine. Makes a huge difference in final part appearance.
Looks good but as a tip, try using another vacuum connector, the one you use isn't really ment for resin Infusion and will get stuck to your breather fabric and filled with resin, try some silicone or plastic connectors 😉
