I was pleased to see a furnace on colin pecks design, it is one I am making myself, I have been using a charcoal furnace for my castings up to now. One question do you make your own greensand ?. its looks quite coarse also what are the white specks that can be seen in it. Once again thank you for a well made series. ken.m
Thanks for watching! Pecks design has certainly proved to be a good one! I do make my own green sand. it is just a combination of play sand and bentonite clay (and water). I don't recall white specs, but I presume it is just impurities that have gotten into it over the many times I have used it, such as sand from the cores or debris from my bench.
Yes it is. I doubt it, there are no rotational forces on the valve at any time, only axial forces. If that turns out to be wrong, I will cross that bridge when it comes to it.

Is the valve rod cast iron? Also isn' t there a possibility that the valve rotates and unscrew?
