    Playing this through the second time, it's insane how many hints are dropped. Perhaps the most notable being:
    Vandarr: "You and she are linked, by a powerful bond shared between you ever since ---"
    Vrook: "Master Vandarr!"
    Vandarr: "Since Taris..."

    This was the first moment in gaming that actually affected my real life. I think we, the players, reactions mirrored how Revan must have felt here very well. I was depressed for days, that after working so many ours on finding a way to defeat Malak, and doing everything light side you find out that you are the bad guy.

      Replying to a 7y old comment, for a nearly 20y old game… I can feel the arthritis looming over the memories of installing games from CDs, ROFL.. But anywho, just wanted to share my story for the revelation - My first ever playthrough, 2006 or 07 I think, I had to spend summer at a place where we didn’t have internet (and even if we did I didn’t care much for it at the time), no phone, no nothing, just my slow ass computer, and the KOTOR install discs… What started as “Ughhh how will I survive this?” Turned out to be one of the greatest summers and experiences I’ve ever had, and it was mostly thanks to this masterpiece and the revelation scene… I had no idea when the game would end, and here comes this scene, after what felt like the end game battle (on the deck of the ship).. I’m watching intensely, barely putting together what the hell just happened, completely forgetting that there’s still one star map to go, the fact that Bastila is now captured, and that I hadn’t even visited Korriban at the time - Nothing mattered at that moment, I was just so captured by the moment that when the cutscene finished and I realized the game is definitely continuing on, I had to save, quit, and in fact took a pause of about a week, just thinking about how could I have missed something so obviously right in front me, and how scary the ending must be if this is just the B part…
      Half-Life made me energetic.. Deus Ex made me think.. GTA San Andreas made me happy.. But KOTOR.. It made me “feel”, like a person telling you a story so engaging, you feel like that’s now a part of you… Never gonna forget this awesome piece of art. :-)

    When I was kid I decided to create a new game with my character being named Revan. Bec I thought it'd be funny if there's a twist within the plot twist, "Revan, you're Revan all along!! Mwhahaha. It was strange that I just took it for granted that Revan was dead. I didn't pay much attention to whether he could be alive or anything. So I thought: "Well, I am just a random soldier who suddenly gets to know that I am are force sensitive." Standard story, I guessed...!
    I was stunned that there was so many hints hidden behind those words said by the different characters. I admit, I had no clue about that I would be Revan.

    It's even better when your Revan is female. Poor Carth realises the woman he's in love with blew up his homeworld's surface killing his wife. I know Canderous corrects him that it was Malak who did it, but it was much later after the escape from Leviathan.

    • @TheUltimateNatural

  • @Sanguiluna
    @Sanguiluna 14 років тому +2

    I knew Revan was alive, but I didn't even consider the possibility that I was actually him.
    My theory was that Bastila was a villain who had developed feelings for Revan, betrayed her fellow Jedi and secretly took Revan off the ship, nursed him to health and became his new pupil, and that she was his spy using me as a means to kill Malak, that way once I killed him, she'd reveal herself and Revan would come out of hiding to retake the Sith.
    But the actual plot twist was MUCH more shocking!

      Ed Phillips you would have to do something to set it aside from the prequel trilogy. One thought I had would be giving him a name other than Revan as his real name. And only revealing it was Revan for sure when he puts the mask on. Another thing would be to give him some kind of trauma to make him hate Mandalorians, or at least be eager to fight them.

    One of the most Mind blown revelations in gaming history. I've played this game several times. I am writing some fan fic for Revan and I am pretty sure, Revan would have been ready to beat Bastila into the ground for lying all this time about who they were.

    That's taking the easy way out. Ok, your characters didn't care that you were Revan, other than Carth and Bastila no one really cared about anything. But guess what, your player-character didn't care either. He had no identity crisis, no struggle, he didn't care about his past crimes, he didn't care that he was an evil sith, he didn't care about what kind of person he was, he didn't question himself, he didn't question the Jedi council, he was just......ok with it.

      @@DG-um3xi sure, but SPOILERS coming up?
      Darth Revan is the Dark Lord of the Sith (like Emperor Palpatine), and his apprentice is Sith Lord Darth Malak. Before they turned to the Dark Side, they were very powerful and heroic Jedi, especially Master Jedi Revan. After he leads the Old Republic to a convinving defeat of the Mandalorians, they chase the remaining forces to the unknown regions, and when both come back, they are now leading a grand force of Sith troops and begin to decimate the Republic. Bastilla Zahn a top Jedi leads a team of Jedi to board Revan's capital ship, before they capture him, Malak turns on his master (Revan) and Revan is killed in the traitorous assualt. Now, Malak is the new Dark Lord of the Sith and he has innumerable sources to defeat the Old Republic led by the remaining Jedi. A fast ascending and promising new Jedi gives the Old Republic hope, and throughot the game this new Jedi grows in power until Malak learns of this powerful Jedi and decides to set a trap for him. He succeeds and both face off, but Malak is so evil that he merely does it for entertainment because he is still much more powerful than this new Jedi. The real reason he sets his trap for this new Jedi is because he wanted to see for himself if it "was true" about what his acolytes were telling Malak. You see Malak wanted to be the one to tell this new Jedi about how the Jedi had wiped his memory and why he was so formidable in the force. "What? All this time and you didnt know?" Malak reveals to this powerful Jedi that he has been Revan all along.

    Agree, I wish bioware made another game where Revan is the main character.
    Where you can decide whether you were Light or Dark side and continue your quest in the outer rim.

    We all fell for this one. We all fell for our master's betrayal in Jade Empire. And people still say that believing in the indoctrination theory in ME3 is "giving Bioware too much credit".

    So I just played this game for the first time (having seen Revan in swtor, I had to check out the actual backstory, and I'm glad I did), and... well, I'm a bit miffed at the Jedi Order. In fact, I think they're a bit hypocritical.
    I believe it was stated somewhere in the game that wiping someone's mind was dark force magic. It certainly feels like it. So that's one massive point against them. Also, one of Revan's lines to Bastila near the end stated that everyone needs to follow their own path; people can't make it for them (light side Revan believed this, anyway). Malak also presents an interesting point during their first confrontation that the Jedi basically inserted Revan with a completely new identity full of Republic propaganda to ensure his loyalty. Revan's entire life, everything he knows after being mindfucked, is a lie. It's sure to drive anyone insane, but somehow, because he's Revan, he manages to keep his cool. (Probably.)
    It's basically brainwashing at it's most cruel, imo, because not only did Revan lose his previous identity and has no way of ever recovering them now (or so Bastila claims), he was also robbed of choosing his own path (a theme in Kotor, if there ever was one). True, Revan can still go darkside if you want him too, but it's not the same. He will never be what he once was, nor will he ever fully recover his memories from even *before* going Sith.
    It's true that the Sith lifestyle ends in death, and Revan was destined to die if the Jedi hadn't "saved" him, but imo, it's better to die a willing Sith, however evil, then be mindfucked by the Jedi into serving their needs for them. They basically did exactly what the Emperor did--used him like a tool for their own purposes. The only reason the Jedi did what they did was because they couldn't afford to lose Revan as an asset. He was considered one of the most, if not the most, powerful force users in the galaxy. It was a cold, calculated decision, and they covered it up with some phony chance at redemption. Give me a break. Argh!
    I think this is further shown in swtor, when Revan is finally freed from the Emperor's imprisonment after three hundred years of torture (having also obviously gone insane). They claimed to get involved because Revan was a hero, but it was only to get to the Emperor himself. They didn't give a toss about Revan, as was seen when Revan disappears after losing to the Imperials in the Foundry dungeon (he did not die, that much is obvious). From what I can tell, the Republic never bothered to pursue Revan, bring him back to the light, or take care of him after three hundred years of torture. Three hundred years, subject to the cruelty of the darkest force in the entire galaxy. The first Sith emperor, a being of pure dark energy by that point. One would think if the Republic actually cared about his welfare by more than just a tool, they would have done *something* other than throw him at the nearest problem like a battering ram.
    Argh, Revan feels. I hope in swtor, if there's ever an expansion, he at least gets some sort of resolution. The man had quite possibly the shittiest life I've ever seen in a story.

      I've not finished the game just yet so excuse me if I get anything wrong. I just played through Revan's revelation last night so this is still fresh in my head.
      The Jedi did not wipe Revan's mind, it had already been damaged by Malak's surprise attack. Willingly restoring his mind to that of the Dark Lord's would have been detrimental to the whole "saving the galaxy" Jedi biz, as would killing him as he was their only hope of finding the Star Forge.
      Your line of reasoning is faulty because it deals too much in absolutes, which is what the Jedi strive to distance themselves from.
      Often context is more important in these cases. Is willingly refraining from restoring a man's memory when one has the capability to do so wrong? Most people would answer yes. Now what if said man was a ruthless, oppressive overlord? What if leaving him in such a state was the only shot at saving a galaxy?
      I'm sure if you presented this as a hypothetical to Revan when he was a Jedi he would have agreed with the Council's decision. They did use him for their own ends, but (again context) those ends were entirely selfless. The Jedi seek only to restore and maintain peace in the galaxy. That one goal guided their actions, not some deceptive ploy to gain power for their organization or some such as the Sith would have done. How you see the Council's actions as "cold" and "calculating" I don't know.

      Bacon Tree he wasn't a willing Sith, though. He and Malak journeyed to the Unknown Regions after finding out that the (up until then unknown) Sith Empire had pushed the Mandalorians to attack the Republic.
      Revan and Malak eventually found the Sith Emperor, who effortlessly defeated them both and reprogrammed their minds to make them become Sith. Eventually they broke free of his control and became Sith for themselves, but Revan was never a "willing" Sith to begin with.

      @KaosNova2 7 років тому

      The Jedi didn't erase his memory, he suffered a memory loss from being badly injured and unconscious for so long. They simple prevented him from being totally brain dead by giving him a different personality. The Emperor only could control him and Malak because he was already lost and corrupted by the Dark Side by that point. The second time he came to the Emperor, he would not turn evil. In his time, he was literally among the most powerful in the force, similar to how Anakin was the prequel trilogy. They wanted to recruit him to their cause because he would be a powerful asset to help them win.
