I believe Dan was 20 years old in the first few videos. Some of them he just calls cringe and sometimes he recognizes that there is potential . He had begun voice lessons around this time and continued them for years, until at one point he was giving lessons to others. Dan has emphatically stated that he is not talented. He says that he has worked hard to become skilled and that is what he is most proud of. I believe he has God given talent that he honed to become the amazing singer and performer that he is today. Thank you so much Ken for reacting to this. I enjoyed it so much.

    G'day Ken,
When I first discovered Dan with his Amazing Grace drop, I went to his channel, and went straight to the beginning. I was a little surprised that the glorious performer we see and hear today came from that very young, very green, very skinny boy,,,he was, as my da used to say, "all *rick and ribs"... but the potential was more than evident and we know that Dan has put in the dedication and discipline to achieve the level he is at now, and continues to do so, constantly improving and bettering himself. He is a magnificent being.
    Long may he continue...😁

Dan always has a certain amount of humility which makes you really want to like him. Here I see confidence, he was stepping right into it. He has talked about his beginning and in his own words will laugh and say how much the video sucks but yet he is proud of it. He should be proud, look where he is now! This was fun!

He has certainly maintained his determination..so often we forget just how we were as beginners, looking back on these now should inspire beginners in anything to keep trying.. it can and will turn out OK in the long run.. 20 years old and filming in his living room with just his phone...very theatrical even back then. Thank you Ken for the review.. love as always from UK

He was good in the earlier years... but wow... his hard work, his training, his perseverance.... has paid off ❤
You are so right about him. He refers us to his earlier videos... he was 20 but looked 15 in the first...
I told him once... in the first years... the promise was there... and as I watched him grow, and improve it was amazing... and over the years it was wonderful seeing and hearing it all come together.
Love this young man, his rich, full, voice, his expressive face and eyes, the body language. The way he performs.. and he does perform... each song. ❤
    Loved your reaction... 😁❤
    Thank you so much.

I also think it's great that he hasn't removed these videos from his UA-cam channel, because this early period is also part of his life. By the way, he was 21 when he recorded this.

    @GrandmasGotGraceLW 8 місяців тому +5

That was a really fun reaction. Thank you for appreciating the younger Dan--even with his still-developing voice, and also with his not-so-very-great equipment. 😀
He does look back and sees what is to come, most of the time. He's so cute in this one, with his sense of humor coming into play, as well.
This was posted on 11/02/2010. Dan turned 34 on 10/10/2024 (he was born in 1989), so he would have only been 21 years old for about three weeks when he put this together.
One of my grandchildren (the oldest one in this household) will turn 20 in just four months. He already looks amazingly like Dan (I have photos that prove it), and even more so like the 21-year-old Dan, due to the awkwardness that we see here. Ethan sings very well, too. In fact, due to watching Dan's videos with the rest of us, he's been BACK to singing more. Once his voice started changing, he quit singing as much as he used to, but he has gotten more confident again, now. Hooray!
One thing that is almost always a factor on Dan's older videos, is the scripture at the end. His REALLY old stuff has a lot of that. Then there's a break in it, but he still holds on to his beliefs, and when (in 2018) he posted his version of Roy Khan's "For All," he was very excited to be able
Thanks again, for the fun. 😀
    Edit...PS...
I just recently heard an OLD group chat that Dan did (when he was 26, I believe), where he talked about how he started singing (at the age of two) in the first place. Evidently he had a really bad problem putting any words together, in the first place. A friend of his mother's told her about a special therapist, whom she thought could help with that problem. Can you guess what the therapist prescribed to his mother, for Dan?
Yup...SING TO HIM, and help him learn the songs. She was a fairly young vocalist herself, by the way. She did as the man said to do, and it worked a whole lot more quickly than anyone thought it would. Dan said that he still has (or at least still had eight years ago) some of the tapes that were produced by family members, of him singing all sorts of stuff from that point on. 😀

I have heard him in his chats, referring to these vintage videos. He says they suck but he likes people to see how far he has come from these early days. I am always amused by the obvious, youthful impatience and he hasn't figured out the importance of looking into the camera yet. He was a genius in the making as we know now. These older ones are probably so encouraging for young artists that want to conduct their careers on videos. Everyone has to start somewhere!!! Thanks Ken. Enjoyed your reaction!!

Youthful, but already so creative! And, I absolutely agree, the kernel of the voice was there. Dan was born 10/13/89, so in these early videos, what we affectionately call "baby Dan", he was only 20. He said himself on his 500,000 subscribers celebration livestream that these early videos are" cringe" and that they "suck", but he leaves them up so we can see how far he's come. Even back then, the raw talent and passion is there, but from his own mouth, it was still basically a hobby back then; he didn't get serious about it until shortly before or after his dad passed away, and one of his regrets is that his dad didn't see him become a successful singer.

Dan is currently 34, so he would have been about 20 in this video. He sort of makes fun of his early videos. But, he also recognizes how far he has come and the amount of work it took. He did a 100th video comparison by re-recording his first video upload. This is probably when he was still recording on a laptop. He eventually got a cell phone and used that until he could afford a camera.

The one from 6 years ago he includes the hymn in the beginning that Shaman used in their song. The hymn is absolutely beautiful. It’s called Jesu Salvator Mundi by Bartolomeo Cordans (1700-1757). Dan has used the word cringe to describe some of his early work but left it there for comparison and hopefully to inspire others. Yes I think that was his mother in the video. Seems like she must have been used to this young kid running around the house singing and shooting video. I find it humorous.
Dan does another video to the song "Go the Distance" where he does a montage of his journey from very early on to about 5 years ago which is very enjoyable. Hey, I was wondering if you could do an analysis on either (or both) of the following. They're considerably unique and I think they might make engaging content for people who don't know of them.
The fist is my and my wife's song Yıldızların Altında by Nesrin Sipahi. It comes from a traditional form of Turkish music called Türk Sanat Müziği. It has an excellent Tambre, exceptional vocals, and the chorus is very "fluid" is my best description. I think it's something you may appreciate as an artist. One thing that I find interesting is the lyrics aren't a story, rather they paint a picture of a single moment in time, which I find to be pretty unique. Here's the link:
    ua-cam.com/video/OH5xH7ipWyc/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
The second is The GRAMMY award winner Bulgarian State Television Female Vocal Choir's performance of Ergen Deda, Chreven Deda (Ерген деда, черьен деда). It's probably my favorite piece of vocal choir music as it's fun, dynamic, complex, and I'm fairly certain it's polyrhythmic. The story is of an old man who wants to celebrate at the town's festival and wants to relive his youth by dancing. However, everyone mistakes him for being a creep and none of the young women want to dance with the old man, until a little girl shares a dance with him. It's actually really sweet. Link below:
    ua-cam.com/video/kuTbM0R0ADQ/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
