You would love the band Heilung. They describe their music as "amplified history from early medieval northern Europe." They use throat singing and it's such a powerful sound. I'm actually going to one of their concerts in October if the pandemic calms down! Their live shows are bucket list material
I'm coming to realize. The taglharpa is a very subtle instrument. The melody takes a backseat to the drone. And Black Metal, if you're familiar, does the same thing to much the same effect. The harshness, the background melody, it produces the same eerie beauty and dark atmosphere.
Metal has roots in ancient Germanic and Nordic music In melody and tone of the taglharpa And the Roman’s remarked the Germanic tribes sung like howling dogs basically confirming death metal growls are ancestral memory
These are covers of songs from a band called Wardruna, and these covers sound spot on to the originals. I highly suggest listening to them. Two others I can suggest are Heilung and Hagala’s Rune Dance. Dead Can Dance is also wonderful for inspiration and they have a wide variety of songs that are inspired by different cultures. I hope this helps!
I had no idea the sound at 5.53 was made using a ritual drum, in the original song I thought it was a voice. The drum is a more versatile instrument than I thought, I'm impressed.
Hello Maria! You thought correctly, in the original song it's a voice :) In this case, I wanted to reproduce it by swiping the skin of the drum. Thank you for the comment, I hope you enjoyed it! :)

I would love to buy the exact one you are playing in this video.. but due to lack of any teachers where I live (south India) and no organised learning content online (as far as I checked) could you just help me understand if playing the instrument by learning on my own is possible?
Hi Shreya! :) Well, my answer is "yes" in any case, but to give you the best advice or suggestions I can, may I aks you if you already play another musical instrument, and/or if you studied, more or less deeply, music, even for a short or long time?

Unfortunately, I do not know anyone that teaches online! Maybe there are people giving lessons, but I personally don't know them, I am sorry. But, tagelharpa can surely be a first instrument :) in this case though, I generally recommend to support the practice with the study of general music theory. Bulding a base and foundations of general music theory and knowledge, will be an anchor and a help to quickly acquire certainties that will support you in facing a new world without feeling too lost, since the path is often individual and solitary. In any way you prefer, with a teacher, with online lessons, books or other, in this case you have a wide range of possibilities. :)
