4 Malayalam movies are playing full house simultaneously in a UK Multiplex. It is need of the day that Malayalam movies should grow beyond Kerala Borders.

I watched "Premalu" with my friend yesterday. Both of us are Kannadigas who usually rely on subtitles while watching Mollywood films. Trust me when I say this, we don't remember the last time we laughed so whole heartedly, clapped and whistled in theatre throughout the movie!! And we say this as two aspiring film makers who have directed short films and watch atleast 5-10 films a month. I have watched more than 50 high quality Malyalam films in the last 4-5 years and I can't give you a top 3 even if I try to because each one of them are so unique that it would be unfair to compare them!

You have a valid point! The thing is, in Kerala, art forms and literature has a special place in the culture, and evolution of Kerala as a state itself. The governments of Kerala, have been setting up this culture from the inception stages. There are several programs in the school level to promote art, literature (and scientific temper too). There are Kerala School Kalolsavam (art competitions), Sahithya Samajam (for literature activities), Sasthrolsavam (for science, maths and IT) at school level. There are, interschool, inter districts and then up to state level competitions for each of these. Moreover, there is a reading culture developed through local libraries (called Vayanashala) funded by the government as well as local clubs. I don't know if any other state has a special period every week in schools exclusively for performing any kind of art in each class. Children can perform, dance, mono act, mimicry or sing in front of their classmates. Above all, these competition winners in state level will get grace marks in public exams. In short, a state has already achieved a good literacy rate, where going to school is a must for everyone, even in remote villages, all these nourishes art in everyone who has any talent. There is a lot more to say. But it's getting long...

As a malayalee, i wish the industry doesn't get carried away, its not healthy to keep on scoring centuries and double centuries in every innings, greedy corporates may venture into mollywood for financing and that will be the end of quality , they might even start giving hefty fees to the upcoming actors and this might get into their heads and mollywood will become like bollywood . Mollywood is like ISRO and every worker in this industry should keep that in mind.

But box office numbers will help the industry to grow and open new markets it is also needed for the industry. When a mohanlal movie opens in markets which malayalam movies were never released before and if it is able to generate an impressive revenue it will give confidence to the exhibitors to release upcoming malayalam movies in that market.Even our experimental movies will get a chance to screen it on those regions.
I understood your concern but we need a right balance of both and i believe currently we have that.

The lyrics with that level of meaning was a perfect sit & fit for that situation!!!!!!! Means although, Guna's(Kamalhassan) level of love was deep yet a fictional movie but to know that the storyline is real(inspired from true events) and felt finally alike giving real birth to such soulful lyrics through this movie❤

And aavesham, goat life, varshangalkk shesham, ARM in the pipeline. I have never wanted the industry to push the revenue boundaries and collect thousands of crores in the box office because that dilutes the art of it. All mass movies in the recent times has the same trajectory and character buildup. But this, this is cinema. ❤ The only industry in the country that asks their stars to prove their acting talent at the peak of their existence, the only industry where a movie like Bhramayugam comes out and collects a healthy run, an industry where all the collection numbers are made by movies of different genres rather than mass movies alone. Malayalam cinema has always been head and shoulders above the rest of the industries but unfortunately never really got it's due because of lack of awareness or publicity. In the recent years we have seen Telugu, Kannada and Tamil movies get their share of accolades but Malayalam has always been the shy, reluctant topper of the class who goes about his studies in a methodical fashion without attracting much attention. While the rest of the industries and their fans compete and argue on their box office collections, Malayalam cinema embraces novelty and experimentation leading to compelling stories and refreshing content. Thanks to the OTT, social media and other digital platforms, you now have audience who are willing to watch movies from other languages and appreciate the wide variety of genres beyond the templated, commercial, run of the mill movies from non Non Malayalam cinema. This is just good karma rewarding Malayalam cinema and Malayalam cinema will continue to blow your minds for years to come.

Also another police drama Thundu starring Biju Menon which is a unusual take on the flawed & frivolous side of police with a silly comedy pieces.Though the movie falters a bit at first half by confusing purpose of the movie ,it's crisp editing & direction makes it a good watch with its light hearted yet impressive moments
