  • You can now order the DVD of this film, in a deluxe or a budget version, from www.transitionn.... It features the following subtitles, all of which have been done by volunteers in their respective countries: Albanian, Croatian, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish. You will also find the links for ordering NTSC versions if you are in the US or Japan, or ordering from Germany. Here's how we describe it:
"In Transition 2.0 is an inspirational immersion in the Transition movement, gathering stories from around the world of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. You'll hear about communities printing their own money, growing food, localising their economies and setting up community power stations. It's an idea that has gone viral, a social experiment that is about responding to uncertain times with solutions and optimism. In a world of increasing uncertainty, here is a story of hope, ingenuity and the power of growing vegetables in unexpected places"

Wow, I am so grateful for this film and that people are preparing for what is going to be a very, very difficult world. Human unity is essential.
"Everything will become immensely expensive. There will be great competition and a great risk of conflict and war over gaining access to the remaining resources. Certain regions will be devastated. Others will be impaired. Many industries will fail. There will be many people out of work. There will be the risk of great starvation in many parts of the world, even in parts of the wealthy nations. There will have to be ever-increasing international agreements. Food will have to be distributed where it is needed most. There will be great shortages of medicines and medical care, even in the wealthy nations. There will be tremendously destructive weather events.

Such an inspiring video to encourage in the heart, we need transformation both inner and with the help of community, that can share the local resources and skill, for human but not the money. Sustainable and transition in 2024 is sparking, hope i can take actions to be green in mind and heart. Under the fast and raging city life, how people and contribute together is amazing and fascinating.

Watch the film and start gathering study groups, action groups.. when TT was in its heyday some decades back it was wildly successful, we even created our own local currency made with hemp paper and had a directory published in a local mag called HopeDance that posted news about radical solutions inspiring hope.... it appears we as a race of humans we forget what we created this the momentum gets lost and then we have to start all over again.. perhaps this time may be different!?

"In Transition 2.0: a story of resilience and hope in extraordinary times" -- one of the *best* documentaries I've seen on youtube. If you care about a better world, watch this!
Inspiring & important message -- energize local community resilience with mission to transition away from fossil fuels. The film is tempered with some realism yet ultimately, hopeful and action-oriented. Filled with case studies from communities in Europe, USA, India, Japan, New Zealand.
Also I loved the occasional animation, e.g. brilliant 1 minute clip @ 47:52 about why it's helpful to buy local.
Excellent introduction to the Transition Network / Culture -- inspires me to get involved more in my community!

Edit: Skip to 47:50 if you want to know what this is about.
I consider myself a kind of pragmatic envoinmentalist, I'm the kind of person that thinks there's a place for meditation but homeopathy is bullshit, just to put the following in perspective.
This seems to bounce back and forth between the vague hippyness that frustrates me about evoinmentalist,s vegitarians, people who believe in more communal living (all of which I also am) and a very refershing actual, planned out, pragmatic goals, something I haven't seen that much (although I'm not that far in).
BUT FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST just tell us what the damn thing is.
    What is transition?
Well with the world the way it is now a days...blah blah blah
    Yeah but that is it?
Well here's how you set up a transition group.
    Yeah but what IS it?
at the 15 minute mark it could still be a cult for all I know, or a holiday website. Or a browny, I could be a medical canibis shop. Just tell me what it is. Stop with circaling around the thing.

      Hey there Jimmy Ryan,
Just found your comment.. three years later!
I'm not a part of the production team or town group there, but i'm guessing from other shows i've seen on the topic, and from the well worded description from the young gent from about the 2:00 min. mark, that it's about transitioning communities from current global capitalist economies to more locally-based communities, for the sake of resilience to global economic crash, oil reserves meaning imported fresh fruit, veggies, n complex carbs cease to become an issue, and to minimize the area's greenhouse gas footprint.

At the 17th minute, that seems to be an angry young man, needing a lot of digging and mucking to work it out, but preferably not with heavy metal in his ears, adding to it, haha.
I'm a great fan of working on the land myself, being outdoors.
As a Dutch citizen, I'm noticing in Britain, that people with visions for a better world, a brighter future, at times talk with an apologetic tone in their voice. As if they're making excuses for saying what they love to express. It's genuine inside, no doubt about it, but it's shielded off. Something in the British nature seems to have died a little. I can hear it in the voice of the woman talking at the 1:40 minute.
I sincerely hope that this "making oneself little" will come to an end, for it's my belief that all sentiments of guilt, fear, shame, resentment, and anger are obstructing freedom and creativity. To me, creativity is the one thing Britain needs right now, in order to improve living conditions.

Like @jimmy Ryan, I found the beginning of the film irritatingly vague, even though I belong to a Transition community in Australia. 😑 It's not a cult, it's about creating communities that are less dependent on fossil fuels and have more food security and control over their own lives. It's based on the idea that mainstream society is dependent on unsustainable systems and will inevitably crash.

There's nothing cult-like about Transition, if there was I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. There is no structure, no hierarchical organisation, no rules. No money changes hands, no one tells you what to do. We organise via social media things such as vegi swaps. Our trading group exchanges goods and services without money, the aim being to prevent usable goods from being dumped in landfill. It also cuts down on waste, reduces carbon emissions, and provides people on low incomes with clothing, food and other material needs.

I'm 26 minutes in and I'm still not clear on exactly just what this Transition Town thing actually IS. You can live in any healthy small town and have genuine community without some strange organization involved.

    • @MsSloopyLopez
      @MsSloopyLopez 9 років тому +6

Madam Smellypits I don't know what town you live in, but "genuine community" has been on a steady decline in America for decades. I don't remember the last time I had a sense of community, one that could by any stretch of the imagination be considered inclusive, resilient and focused on sharing. Our culture discourages this kind of behavior, even to the point of enacting laws to prohibit urban food gardens or sharing food with people who are denied access to food sources. When there is no more food in the grocery stores (and currency will have no value, as economy is dependent on a steady supply of cheap oil) and those who have never experienced real hunger, suddenly have no food and no foraging or hunting skills, will not survive.
So Transition Towns provides models, based on tested practices, for communities that are just begging their efforts to transition away from oil dependent living. Unless you live in a community that provides all of its own food, products, tools, medical care, education, building materials, alternative transportation, and virtually every human activity, you are dependent on oil.
