In 2002 I was in the hospital for attempting to end my own life. There was an old woman in the bed across from me, and she'd sing this song randomly, in such a silly way. She had a stroke and couldn't move from her waist down. It was so sad but she tried to cheer me up. I would sit beside her bed on and off over 2 months. She couldn't move, and she was still singing. I've tried to find it over the years without success. I'm watching Emily in Paris on Netflix and they mention this song. It's 2024 and I've found it. Coincidently I'm going through a really hard time, and this reminded me to be grateful to simply be alive. What timing.

@@MyTimeOutt Historically speaking, the song was written for her. The movie producers wanted Cilla Black instead of Dionne. Understandably, DW wasn't interested in recording it after that and Bacharach nagged her into finally doing it. The 43rd person to record Alfie and had the most success with it in the USA.
She always presented with flawless vocals as if the words flowed like a river that's smooth and calm!! It's amazing how her words in a song touches so many hearts 🥰
Dionne asked Burt, "How many times does Alfie need to be recorded?" Ha! By the time Dionne recorded it, it had been previously recorded many times. Burt told her, "This is the last time." It's Burt's favorite song. Wonder why he didn't give it to Dionne right after he and Hal wrote it from the start????

Hers was just the best of all, the definitive performance. As with many artists, she did not sing this song by rote, she has worked it so that she has imbedded more than one style & interpretation to it, but the essential message remains the same--love can happen, even for those men who would abuse the concept--love can still redeem them, if they want it.
Wow the soundtrack of my childhood....she was gorgeous
Amazing voice...so elegant..Ms. Dionne Peacewick..:)
You believe every word as she sings...so amazing!
What a glorious gift of song? Her singing is delicious! Thank you for sharing. Amazing!
She always presented with flawless vocals as if the words flowed like a river that's smooth and calm!! It's amazing how her words in a song touches so many hearts 🥰
The Best Trio DIONNE, Bert and an Hal. Also all the Great Musicans to bring this sound together smoothly.
One of my all-time favorite singers, singing one of my all-time favorite songs...!!!
... Priceless ...!!!
Beauty, Grace and Style, Ms. Dionne Warwick!!!!!
The people from the motion picture didn't want her for the song.
Trust and believe he wanted her to have it first. I know her version of the song is the best 💯💯🙌🏽🙌🏽❤️
@@TheLanard The movie was British, so they had Cilla Black and we in America got....Cher, yes, then 20-year-old Cher. She was on the "right" record label.
@@gwenmarie7311 Dionne made it an international hit. The original demo was done by a 22-year-old male singer. Cilla Black did not want the song until Burt Bacharach caved in to her unusual requests and demands. Since it was a British film, the movie personnel wanted a British singer. Strange, but true. Dionne nearly did not record it. Thank goodness she did. She got it in one take.
Just seen in concert for the fifth time. Absolutely the best of the best
Poise. Class. Dignity.
Wow, Dionne is the ultimate songstress with that indelible voice and her elegant poise and demeanor! !
I still get tingles listening to the amazing Dionne sing this song.

He was a six-time Grammy Award winner and three-time Academy Award winner, and his songs have been described as some of the most important compositions of 20th-century ".. I have so many songs I LOVE,not 1 was not amazing.. but this one "Alfie" was my favorite and "Anyone Who Had A Heart" both sung by Dionne Warwick..greatest song writer, composer, extremely talented, genius and gifted...ty for the beautiful music sir you created on air and in movies 🤍
I remember my Dad had the sheet music. He use to play it after work. I learned the words and sang it every chance I got. Wonderful days! Brings back memories. 🙂
I’ve loved this song for over 50 years.
The greatest contemporary pop music team in American Music history: Burt Bacharach, Hal David......and if they searched the globe...they could have never found anyone to deliver their brilliant compositions .....on "Golden Wings".....than Dionne!!!
Just magnificent ! Such much emotion in her voice. This is a sample of why Dionne will never be duplicated.
This song spand across years in my young life. It influenced me about Jazz music. Love you Dionne.
I really can't think of a better singer on this planet
