I feel that they are more than friends.. I have a theory about one of the stories that they will tell for Captain Marvel 2. Monica died in the snap. Carol is back on earth, looks after Maria after her successful cancer treatment only to be told 2 years later that the cancer is back, Maria went for another treatment looses her hair hence Carol also cut her hair explains her short hair after the 5 year time jump. Maria dies from Cancer. Carol leaves Earth as all of the people she loved are gone, Fury, Monica and her lover Maria, no reason for her to stay that’s why when she was ask by Black Widow during their hologram meeting if she will be back, she replied “ You wont see me for quite a while”. Carol then appears during the Endgame final battle and Starks funeral. She doesn’t have the courage to face Monica even though knowing she blipped back. She goes to space again without talking to Monica, that’s why when Carol was mentioned during WandaVision, Monica got sour faced at the sound of Carol’s name. I’m smelling a big confrontation in Captain Marvel 2 between Carol and Monica. So exciting.
