Finally someone had the guts to take their stock 460 on that trail. I’ve been too chicken to take mine...only my old Tacoma. Nice! Now get a lift so I can be inspired to get mine lifted.
GX is a fun car, I have 2015, used it stock many times, scrapped a bunch of times but never got stuck. Recently threw 2” Dobinson on it and KO2s and it’s amazing now and the ride feels so much more comfortable, GX is a tank
Intense video and so good. great to see that truck in action. Paul was a perfect sidekick, but i think the dog gave you the silent treatment at 7:36 ...
If you only knew the level of punishment these trucks can take, even in stock form. Trust me, you did more harm to your pants than you did to that truck.
Came across your channel from an old ih8mud post about tires and thought it was entertaining enough to come and subscribe. And now I'm glad I did, based on initial viewing it looks like you're based out of Arizona, which is where I'm located.
Love it- way to go for it! Just lifted our GX460 2” (6612s plus airbag sensor trick) after our own trial by fire in the Mojave. Stock skids probably look like yours now. I pretty much feel like if you are at or below stock height of most off-roaders your underbelly becomes a street sweeper for sharp obstacles and loose stuff. Others love it when you come by and sweep away the debris and round off the sharp rocks for them.
You guys are funny as heck. Paul's 3rd gen 4R looks immaculate. Same color and year as mine just in way better shape. Also picked up a GX460 today to add the stable. This video made me so happy to see you both rock your vehicles. I'll have to convince my buddy to co-trip in both vehicles and do the same trail you guys did.
With all the sliding with locked brakes that looked more like an escalator than a staircase. An uncaring, indifferent, rocky escalator. Beautiful trail for a GX with fairly basic (affordable) upgrades, thanks for sharing!
Great video on the GX and 4Runner. 2001 and 2002 4Runners have early version of ATRAC but no rear locker. Awesome to see another GX on the trail. I have a lightly modified 05 GX470 (1.5" lift, aftermarket 2.5" shocks and rear 2" coil spring conversion with airbags for towing) and a 99 4Runner (supercharged, rear locker, and same suspension setup as my GX on a lighter vehicle). Sometime I wish the earlier 4Runners also come with ATRAC. I resort to left foot braking method for the open front diff since the 99 4Runner doesn't come with ATRAC. Also I flipped the 3rd gen 4Runner's hitch (if you have the 1996 to 1998 hitch since those are not welded) to get a little bit of departure angle since that hitch has a tendency to be a pivot point when going up/down steep hills. Both are pretty capable, but the GX has the advantage with the ATRAC and the 4Runner is surprisingly more compact and easier to maneuver. Both are also very easy to work on, share some of the same parts (oil filter, oil, diff oil, xfer case oil, xfer case oil), some suspension components are similar as well. Plus parts are available and cheaper compared to a Land Cruiser.
Oh man, there is a ton of stuff in there. thanks for the insights. I didn't realize later 3g's have ATRAC so I'll try to correct that at some point and give you a shout out. Good insights on the hitch flip too. I'm overlanding with Paul next weekend (video likely) and I'll mention it. His looks pretty low because he has a body lift that exposed more of it. Thanks for the insight and watching!
I had a 98 Runner w manual 5 spd and manual xfer case. I could lock all 4 wheels but sadly too chicken to chance scratching it. Well, one big scratch when a mini van crossed my path at 65 mph. Sad day.
Great job!!👍 We did Broken Arrow last year in wifey's Jeep Rubicon Hardrock. Now it's time to take my GX460! Although I do have about a 2.5 to 3 inch lift on mine with 285/70/17, so hopefully I won't scrape as much. 😁🤞
great job with the GX. that's why it comes with skids under there. i'm sure you did nothing but add a little trail markings with no real damage. you can always upgrade to solid 3/8" plate armor if you get tired of dinging up the 3 mil stock set.
Very entertaining vid. The GX looks great....did great. Just get a small lift and your all set. Did you happen to air down at all? If so...from what to what? Love my Gx.
Yep and I'm glad I did or I probably would have lost that tire that I parked on the rock like an idiot. I run them at 40 in town. For Rocks and I've been doing 18-20psi.
Loving your GX videos! We did the Team O’Neil Trail Craft school with our stock GX. Lots of skills learned in that course. For what it’s worth I just ordered a lift and skid plates for our rig 👌🏻😎
I think he’s got about 180. He just took it to Baja for 10 days. Heading to Kofa with him in 3 weeks so maybe you’ll see more of that truck on the channel : )
My stock '05 GX scrapped places but went everywhere the Pink Jeeps did & boy they look at you funny when you make it up the obstacles!! Indefinably go during the week like he did.
Hey, buddy! That's funny, I was just thinking this morning that I wanted to come back and ask you if I can crawl under your GX and look at the spring part #'s to compare them to mine : ) I'll pop in and see if I can catch you this week. Hope you liked the video!
That was such bad driving that it upsets me! I know it shouldn't but I can't believe he's that bad but instead did it on purpose for comments. Either way I lost lol. Since 2020 I've done way more people watching on the trail than ever before and I would have loved to watch this train wreck in person lol.
@@WastingTimeInTheWoods WAIT!!! Are you telling you think this was good driving and why are you being personally insulting when I didn't do that to you or is this supposed to be an escalation? Zomg... go SLOW... our stock 2021 GX460 lives off road... the issue is the front differential, which has a stock skid plate. The only thing you are doing wrong is going too fast. Go 4L, 1st gear... and sloooow down/or up. If you hit the front diff... just sloooowly slide over it... did I say slow? 😆
Living over on the Glendale side of town, you've inspired me to get out more and see what this great state has to offer in the next few months before the sun really hits. I've got a 2017 Jeep Compass 4x4 and would love to hear about more moderate trails for off-roading, camping, or even nice backpacking trails around Arizona. Keep up the great work, Jake!
It does. I did not. I do t see the point of that if you’re already in 1st 4lo and atrac is automatically applied. That thing clacks and clatters the brakes like crazy.
Another comment, those trails were built by pink jeep tours. They are designed to entertain, but aren't all that dangerous to equipment. Why build a trail for a business that will wreck your fleet? They didn't. But ya gotta ask yourself, is my rig as good as or better than those pink ones? If so, go enjoy Disneyland, else be careful like you did!
Just put on some beefy skid plates and and a wench. If you get stuck, pull your self out. Else, just let that skid plate take the brutal punishment. As we say in hawaii.... "She go!"

Just a couple of old fashioned down to earth guys, out having a bit of fun. Grwat to see. Thanks for the video and the entertainment. Well done

Great to see you two take on that impressive trail. And you two did good.
2" goes a long way.
I'm going to resist the urge to make a joke here... ; )

Great content and the video flowed very well and kept me interested throughout the video
Glad you enjoyed it! Be sure to subscribe for more. I've got some great content coming on survival myths, trail cocktails and more fun trips.
The Broken Arrow trail was our favorite Sedona trail. We did it in a lifted Wrangler. So much fun!
If you only knew the level of punishment these trucks can take, even in stock form. Trust me, you did more harm to your pants than you did to that truck.
Can't wait to run mine out in the wild soon. Just looking towards the day my daughter is old enough to get out there with me.

The color on that 4runner is the best color Toyota ever made.

This was a great review of the trail on a stock truck. Paul seems to be a fun buddy to hang out with - you two should make more videos together!
Loved the video. The content was fun and the editing was great👍
Nice video, we appreciate the underbody sacrifice
My skid is your gain my friend.
No lift needed, new bumper with skid plate, sliders, you’re good.

I want to see pics of the skid plates on the GX. Those must have been beaten up pretty bad.
Thats what they’re for : )
thank you. I like seeing what the stock vehicle can do
I've done those trails in a stock jeep liberty no damage. Glad you did it in the gx. Fun to watch you on the video.
Crawl control is a great addition for the gx460. I just tested it on that trail. Glad I got rid of the DAC.
I came across your videos today. Thank you for the chuckles
I'm going from a 4th gen 4Runner to a GX 460 soon. Awesome video.
My guy is Wheelin in sandals with socks. Wheelin level expert 👍🏻
I did it in a stock 470 two months ago. I was worried shirtless the whole time, but no damage.
I asume you had crawler tires? Thanks for the comment. I got a 460 just learning the capabilities of a stock vehicle. Thanks
With all the sliding with locked brakes that looked more like an escalator than a staircase. An uncaring, indifferent, rocky escalator.

It’s definitely a controlled slide.

"that's why it comes with skids under there" - Exactly.
I think an3/8" plate armour would add unnecessary weight to the truck. Don't you think? Well, except you're doing the aluminium plate.
@@dermotwallace5533 should have said 3/16" plate. Aluminum usually comes 1/4"
15:50 yes. 🤣 kudos for pulling it off though.

It's pretty steep.
The gx 460 is pretty awesome being that it was stock.

Just some paint missing from the front skid. Couldn’t see anything else when I put it on the lift afterwards.

Did you use decent control, in 1st gear low range on the staircase?
No DAC. I hate that thing. Too clickity clack with the brakes for me. I just use low and 1st generally and that's what I did there.
@@WastingTimeInTheWoods copy that, I’ve never used mine. But that was a sketchy enough decent I might of tried it. A lot of slipping and sliding.
