I had this on cassette and listened to it a lot. I’ve missed it and am glad to find it here. I’ve always liked Cy’s voice. In fact, I ended up here after searching for “With One Look”, from the “Better Off Dead” soundtrack, it’s the end credit track that I couldn’t get enough of and could never find. Now, I want Calm Animals back on my shelf again. Wish I could find it on vinyl. Very underrated album.
Saw them at a place that no longer exists in Spokane called “Outback Jacks”on July 31 1998 was standing right at the very front of the stage 3 feet away from Cy I kept yelling outside! Outside! They finally played it as an encore. It was so awesome and then after way too many beers I find myself behind the venue with my buddy I went to the concert with basically interviewing Cy and the boys about different lyrics. What were you thinking here or what were you thinking there I quoted “every man climbs a mountain with the hope to make a stand, every man makes a mountain of his life, the master plan” and several other lyrics, and he was very gracious, and I was probably kind of drunk, but spoke with the band for over half an hour, and as I read these comments, I realize how gracious Cy and the band has always been backstage and after shows..so thanks to them !
I first bought this on CD taking a chance... one listen and I frisbee'd it right into the trash... but I missed and it got a second listen... ok, I'll keep it... didn't play it again for months... flipped it in on a whim... suddenly i got it (I'm slow)... it stayed in my player for at least a week before it fell into regular rotation with my other favorites, and it's still there....
I was in the Concert of this tour, they played gracious and Cy is a very, very good singer, Jamies Guitarplaying is smartest one😎💚🧡💚🧡💚 this Album is a underground Hymne to freedom and peace
Thanks for making this album available! Can't find it on Apple Music or Spotify. Such an amazing collection of tunes ... and so underrated. The first 4 songs, Calm Animals, and The Flow really blow my socks off. Can't believe it wasn't a huge success.
The English bands of the 80’s are the best. Psychedelic Furs, Big Country, The Cure, Echo and the Bunnynen, the Fixx. I bought reach the beach new on cassette. 👏👍This album is awesome!
I don't mind if a great band is underrated it really means nothing I like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame what is that? too rich guys starting Club who cares they have rappers in there but they won't touch any kind of real hard rock like hardcore'80s hardcore
Great "musical memory": In high school Biology I class we had to do an "environmental project" for Earth Day. I drew on a small 9 X 12 poster board in black ink this album cover and my classmate & life-long friend, Brian, wrote out the lyrics of Driven Out. We earned an "A"! That was 1989.
Wow, that's so awesome! I've heard several stories about how the Fixx inspired their fans, this is a great one! The Fixx are very different and special. I knew this from the time I first heard them when I was 15.
Thanks for posting this. For some reason, this is one of The Fixx's albums that isn't on Spotify (same with their great 1st album and several later ones).
Huge fan. I saw them at the Concert Hall in Toronto on this tour. I bought a poster and after the show my girlfriend and I made our way to the hallway towards backstage in hopes of meeting the band. It wasn't looking good until some guy asked us if we were the radio station contest winners. We weren't but we said yes and given passes and escorted in. We got to meet each band member and all signed the poster...I still have it and the backstage pass.
i like the fixx calm animals album they are a great band if others here this they would like it i hop more make comments on this because ii would like to here back from you real soon, see you later and have a nice day and may god bless you all with love because he is the one that takes care of us if you just read the bible that would be the best book you could ever have in your life if you have faith in god then you got the word as well and he is also looking down on us at all times so just keep that in mind and will never let you down.
One of my all-time favorite albums by any group. Very underrated but one of the finest produced albums by them. I highly recommend listening to this album. My other favorite by them is walkabout.
This album is an amazing, irreplaceable chapter in the Fixx's discography. Caught them on the Calm Animals tour in a small venue in Milwaukee. Met the whole band afterwards between the stage door and the tour bus!!
@@mercedesbalderas4400 True but I found alot of great bands on MTV's 120 minutes. Talk Talk, Ocean Blue, Immaculate Fools, XTC, Wild Swans, Split Enz, The Call, Peter Murphy The Church, Prefab Sprout, and so many others. No filler on any of their albums. Loved every song on their albums.
TOTALLY forgot about THIS ALBUM! Not quite Phantoms or Walkabout & i LOVE the 1st few, but THIS production value is HEAVY! FIXX OPENING FOR ADAM ANT at Portland ZOO SOON?! THERE!!!
One of the best albums I've ever heard. It takes you to climb mountains, to reach the sky, to visualize the landscape on the top of the world, to foresee the future and when you wake up you realize that you are in ecstasy.
Was working at a Sam Goody when this was released. Played it all the time …. against the programming we were given. Precious Stone still brings me to tears. The Flow moves me to creative action. It’s a crime that this album is so overlooked.
I liked The Fixx in the 80s and own their greatest hits album, but for some reason, just recently REALLY got into them. I came here for "Driven Out," and gave the rest of the album a listen, and was stunned by how....non-dated it sounds, 34 years after release. Still relevant, still fresh, still vibrant and gorgeously layered.
I got Ink when it first came out and I knew that I would still be listening to the Fixx in the future. Light years ahead of their time. I've recently rediscovered all their albums too. This one is probably at the top, isn't it?
One of my childhood friends and I played this cassette to death summer of 1989 while we played my Atari 2600 and his Nintendo entertainment system. Great times-irreplaceable memories! Take care, All!
Always loved this Fixx song! I remember picking up the React album way back in summer 1988 with my lawn mowing money. Studio version of this would be most intriguing to hear, IMO. Take care, Fixxtures!
The fixx calm animals...
How were these guys not #1 on everything? Their composition is immaculate.
Why is this album out of print and not on Spotify or Amazon digital? Crazy. You're doing a great service having it up here. I salute you.
This still excites me after 30 years. Timeless and very special album, way before its time!
Monster album!!
My top "SIXX" albums:
1. Reach the beach
2. Phantoms
3. Calm animals
4. Beautiful friction
5. Shuttered room
6. Walkabout
Every 5 seconds is an amazing album too.
They never put out a bad album. Ever. Their new album is the same. Absolute class.
I agree in every point. Bought their new masterpiece 4 month ago and it's just wow

Go to Discogs. Just bought this album on vinyl. It's a MUST have for me.
"The Flow" is one of the most poignant and underrated Fixx tunes.
There is no mistake listening to The Fixx from the 80's...every album is a masterpiece.

That's awesome man. Talking to Cy Currin about lyrics is a bit like talking to Chuck Norris about toughness. 😉
I first bought this on CD taking a chance...
one listen and I frisbee'd it right into the trash...

ok, I'll keep it...

wow lolll it was haunted.
Same! I didn't like it at first, now it's one of their best
The Flow brought me here.
I was in the Concert of this tour, they played gracious and Cy is a very, very good singer, Jamies Guitarplaying is smartest one😎💚🧡💚🧡💚 this Album is a underground Hymne to freedom and peace
Beautiful moods and musicianship, and those vocals and minor chords on World Weary--KILLING.
Precious Stone recalls U2 or Echo and the Bunnymen, guitar like the edge. Brilliant album. Atmospheric 👏
Driven out. My Fave Fixx song. So Epic!
I purchased the album for that song. Then realized I like every song on it.
Thanks for making this album available! Can't find it on Apple Music or Spotify. Such an amazing collection of tunes ... and so underrated. The first 4 songs, Calm Animals, and The Flow really blow my socks off. Can't believe it wasn't a huge success.
Amazing album, never understood why it isn’t available on Spotify.
I have Spotify and I’ve noticed that with other artists they don’t always have every single album they made don’t really know why
This album has a simple minds feel to it. Never heard it but I am now👏👏👏terrific
Up there with the best of The Fixx's (or anyone's) best albums. Even gets better with age.
Most underrated band of all time
Shocking because they had radio singles all the way through Walkabout....should have been way BIG. Genius
The English bands of the 80’s are the best. Psychedelic Furs, Big Country, The Cure, Echo and the Bunnynen, the Fixx. I bought reach the beach new on cassette. 👏👍This album is awesome!
The Fixx and Shocking Blue also.
@@retrobaseballjunkwax5302 like phil collins? yeah that wouldn't've been too annoying or anything, what the hey, haha

Gypsy Feet took me back to those 80’s and 90’s times. Very cool .
Damn near flawless album, played the hell out of the cassette had to get it on CD.

Argh! So frikkan good! My wife brought this home from tower records and we danced and gnoshed! Best memories...b
I listened to this while doing the dishes at home in my teens in China. good old memories ;-D

OMG! I forgot how GOOD this album is!!! They were SOOO FAR AHEAD of their time! Brilliant lyrics! So relevant still today!
BUT-WE-CHOK'D-ON-GREED-AND-EXCESS~O! calm,- calm, calm, calm, *FREE-ON-A-SHRINKING-PLAIN!!*
I bought this album solely based on the cover yet I looked forward to listening to it yet skeptical if I would enjoy it, and I am enjoying it. Sha-ba!
Thanks for posting. Great album ! 😀

i dig driven out.love the fixx never had this one
I think I pissed off my college rooomate playing this album constantly. Hehehe!
Driven out 3:19
The bass in Big Wall is tremendous
Try this album at 1.25x speed!
To me this is a great album
I remember..."driven out"...wow~~
track 11 easily takes the prize, for best track, but it would be counterintuitive to do that~
Yeah Fixx me up
Awesomely sweet
1st the flow and 2nd driven out
retracto! each track seems better than the last!
Was für eine geile Band, hatte den Namen immer wieder gehört, aber mich nie wirklich drum gekümmert. Ein Fehler.
How was Subterranean not a single? great song
Track 3 7:19

I like what I heard so far. When Cy let’s out that growl, that’s unmistakable Fixx.👏Time to catch up on this talented and unique band.👍
A very underrated & great album by the Fixx.
I agree 👍
At that time the 80s people prefer rock music

Nearly all of the guitar heavy New Wave bands got buried in the late 80's, as they were seen as tough to market and classify. Too bad.
Lots of great music never gets recognized and the Fixx is one of them. So Fixx fans let us enjoy our band!
The best music 🎶 ever .. thank you 🙏🏻 The Fixx

Il fallait être sacrément curieux et cultivé pour découvrir the fixx quand on est français
👏👍🏻
Hello Ocean Front Ocean Sound, the album is nice. I am a fan of 70´s progressive rock. Good luck with your uploads
These guys sometimes have a Daniel Amos vibe to them!🤟😄😁
Environmental awareness before it was fashionable. Perfect song
Yup, we just don't get lyrics like this anymore. I think about THE FLOW a lot when I'm driving, because other drivers don't have any! 😁
The only thing that matters is that we're all still here. Amazing band and great album.
una de las mejores bandas que escuchado!!!genios!!!
Excellent album.Saw The Fixx at the Chestnut cabaret. The Ink tour. Small place and The Fixx killed it.
Is that a different version of Big Wall than on the React album? I think so!
I've been listening to this practically on loop for weeks - God, it's so good.
Subterranean!
not on spotify
