The Blues GM said something similar and described using his cap space as a weapon. I don't imagine Bowman would have been the one to break the ice and say it first, but once its out there from the Blues, why not acknowledge it - especially as you're trying to gain trust in Edmonton.
Holloway was not worth 2.29 million when he’s not even played 100 nhl games. I get the hate for the oilers but anyone with a brain and a rudimentary comprehension of the NHL salary cap structure can recognize St.Louis overpaid on both and a cup contending team isn’t going to blow their load on unproven players who don’t project to be point producers relative to their draft position. They cleared the cap space to threaten that they would match and got a 3rd future and prospect so it’s time to move on.
Leggo, you do understand that the notion of screwing over the oilers was only available in this scenario because Holland didn’t rectify the negotiations prior to them hitting the signing period after the season? Holland could’ve signed them in January or so when no other NHL club could negotiate but he didn’t and thus they weren’t matched. Stan Bowman and co most likely won’t let any significant young player get to that stage going forward seeing as how he completed the real objective this summer signing Leon.
Oilers were leveraging their own drafted players. They put them on the back burner because they thought the players had zero leverage. They offered Holloway an insulting 3 year contract at 1.1 AAV. Offered Broberg 1.8 AAV. They did not see any offer sheets coming so they lost two great young players for basically nothing. They sign 40 year old Perry to a 1.4 AAV higher then Holloway? Serves them quite right!
And now neither player is worth the money they’re playing for. St.Louis can have them. I won’t be surprised in the least if they both regress based on surrounding personnel.
Yeah, how do you attribute the word “great” to 2 players who weren’t even regulars over their 3 plus years respectively? Great is McDavid or Draisaitl, someone who can’t be kept in junior or the A for extended periods because they’re too good. People honestly lack critical thinking or the ability to construct sentences together that convey a reasonable assessment regarding this sort of scenario.
Corey Perry was signed to a 1.4M contract but you have no clue what that means do you? In the Salary Cap era, you can BURY up to a 1.4M dollar contract in the MINORS - do you get that? In other words, if the Oilers need cap space down the road, they just send Corey Perry to Bakersfield and WHAM they get an instant 1.4M in cap relief (it would be a paper tx Perry would never board a plane to fly there), while both Holloway and Broberg are no longer waiver eligible and they wouldn't clear waivers and we would of lost them for nothing. Also, you do realize Broberg has done NOTHING in his time here - he couldn't crack our lineup as he's too soft and we already have dmen in Ekholm, Nurse, Kulak and of course Bouchard that he can't beat out and all of them are more physical. Also, Broberg had asked for a trade and the Oilers tried to oblige - wanting only a (you guessed it, or did you) a 2nd round pick, and there were NO TAKERS cause he isn't that good (yet). 9.18 MILLION dollars over two years for Broberg??? Good luck with that. As for Holloway - you do know the makeup of our roster right? Where would Holloway be in the forward group - 10th or 11th, and it was a 2 year deal not a 3 year deal that was offered to him
😂😂😂 imho those two tried to push the org into this position, forcing decisions knowing the cap situatuon to determine their worth on this team which is not there, YET. Blues will find out the hard way on bad signing offers. 😂😂😂 see yah, wouldnt wanna be yah.
So he was honest and it's controversial? Look there have been less than kind (though probably honest as well) things from the other side that were said. I don't blame the two for taking the money and running. How did Leon Draisaitl put it, he feels the responsibility of his salary. Hopefully Mr. Holloway and Mr. Broberg do as well. I wish them well, they were progressing in Edmonton and Edmonton didn't do a good job moving them through the system or getting them proper NHL play time so they went where they can get the opportunity. Opportunity doesn't mean certainty it means you have to prove you can do the work at an acceptable level (that isn't necessarily what you're being paid but can't be so far from that the fans lynch you). Take care all.
Holloway and Broburg walked away from a hockey dynasty. Instead they will play in a crappy city, crappy arena and crap organization. Good riddance 👏 Those players are not worthy to play for the Oilers.
@jakehadath7559 I have been to both. Lived in Edmonton . It's is MUCH better. There is much lower crime, much cleaner, far fewer homeless people... more parks. Better malls. SORRY, but St Louis SUCKS. Edmonton is actually pretty good....if you don't mind 5 months of winter !

Where's the lie though? Who's honestly gonna say Broberg is a $4.5mAAV player?

You can’t say “crappy city” in comparison to Edmonton lol. I’m a fan of neither team and don’t care about the moves but cmon. Edmonton is terrible.
