I used to love these guys... Ever since I saw them performing live, I adore them. I mean it wasn't just the sound that was hitting us like a wall, is that you wanted it to hit you. I can't really explain it. After the concert, you felt like you were confessing your sins to a priest for two and a half hours (not that I have ever done it). Liberating...
I saw Mogwai live for the first time in June of 2002 at Club Laga in Pittsburgh, PA - sadly no longer around - and this was the first track they played. Sixteen minutes of pure divine bliss. One of the friends I went with looked at me and said, in the most accurate description I've ever heard, "it feels like we're being abducted by angels." I didn't want the song to end. They closed with My Father My King, which was performed in its 20+ minute entirety. It was awesome but I was almost deaf by the end of it. Incredible band; studio, indeed, but especially live. Long live Mogwai.
This is the best live song I've ever seen and listened to. After two months I still remember each second of that amazing performance. That was Heaven down on earth.
el bien y el mal son conceptos occidentales, parte del mismo espejismo. El justo sera aceptado en el reino de dios y para eso no hay que ser siempre bueno.... Jah bless
Yøu sure know what to say friend...... Played it when I saw them that same year in ATL. Part-Chimp was the opening act...... Still to this day, one of the greatest shows I have ever had the pleasure to enjoy...... cuz lemme just say...... the feelings I felt being in the room when Mogwai is playing are feelings & energies I have never felt since.
Totally agnostic and the concert in SF was very good but this song made it unforgettable...one of the best songs i have ever heard live...may e the best...i think so...just saw Brian Jonestown Massacre and it was great but nothing i would evef remember like this...so incredible...if you get a chance see them..
5:30 This was how they played it live too when I watched them: no flute solo. During that calm interlude one of the guys in the front row went crazy and started shouting, ergo ruining the atmosphere (prob thought the song was over). The guitarist in front at that time--I think it was John Cummings --got annoyed and shushed him personally. I thought that was funny --but forgivable, given that I also went hysteric in that glorious moment the guitars blast out amid the calm (a la 8:18). I only managed to annoy the guy beside me, thank god.
+deinpare On the album Special Moves, the exact same thing happens. Are you sure you are not confusing your live experience and the track of the album? ;)
HOLY SHIT I'M SEEING THEM THIS FRIDAY. You're telling me that they're going to play "Fear Satan" as part of the Rave Tapes tour? Also is it going to be more of their new stuff or will we hear classics such as this and "My Father My King"?
notmicrowavesafe // It's a little sporadic. I caught them in Sacramento, first, and I'd say about 70% - 80% of the setlist was similar, but they definitely didn't play Mogwai Fear Satan, then. Had the opportunity to see them again in San Francisco, and was elated when they closed their set with it. You can peek at Setlist.fm to get an idea of what songs they're playing on this tour. Honestly, only 4 or so Rave Tapes songs will probably make the bill. Hope your show is a blast.
Derek Horton Fingers crossed man. Thanks for the update; if I see "Fear Satan" live then I can go and skydive Sunday with zero fear/doubt. Should be fun :D
Mogwai is scotland, close your eyes n imagine the neds running about with a pit bull in slow mow n trakkys tucked nto his white socks n bottle of irn bru in his hand , lol ;)
Intense and consuming No one's jumping off the stage or running around screaming Just close yer eyes and let it hit you And for what it's worth as a muso..I enjoyed looking for the heads up for that second break Was it the touch of the glasses...or the scratch of the chin...or the Tele player stepping up to the mic ? Dunno They're just great to watch and to listen to
@TokinMystic12 many of their titles go into that kind of direction, e.g.: "you don't know jesus" or "i'm jim morrison, i'm dead" or "you're lionel richie". especially the last two ones should give u an image how "serious" and carefully they choose their titles.
Dont fear God, because God is inside of you. Fear Satan because he is your shadows, and the inner evil. Know Satan, talk with him and dont leave that he, turn off your god.
Perhaps Satan was using sign language that day. Documentation can be spotty... some say he has a voice only dogs can hear, which really helps explain parts of 'The Omen'. I can't believe he's a minimalist, though... far too gaudy! "His return shall be heralded by diamond-encrusted Zany Zappers and a duck suit"
Several Mogwai songs have a funny? title... "Moses? I amn't", "I am not Batman", "Punk Rock/Puff Daddy/Antichrist", "Hunted By A Freak", "I love you, I'm going to blow up your school" "George Square Thatcher Death Party"...
LOVE this!! The second best instrumental rocktune after The Music´s "No Danger"! Check it out if you like this one :) tjolahopsansa like Pippi Longstocking would say ;P
Future of the Left are doing a similar line in high quality song titles, including: "Fuck the Countryside Alliance", "Throwing Bricks at Trains", "You Need Satan More Than He Needs You", "Stand By Your Manatee", "My Gymnastic Past" and maybe my favourite, “Robocop 4: Fuck Off, Robocop.”
Не особо Сатан чувствуется. А ещё возникло стойкое ощущение дежавю, видимо из-за недавнего прослушивания God is an astronaut. Уж не знаю, кто у кого украл. Хотя у последних и богаче звук. Имхо
this is the greatest thing everyone will ever listen to on youtube.
How that comment only has 2 upvotes, I'll never know..
oh yeah!
Tun pa pa pa tun pa pa pa.. ❤
Probably
That moment when the guitars blast back in. One of live music's best moments hands down.
I know right!

it doesn't get any better than this.

Yøu sure know what to say friend...... Played it when I saw them that same year in ATL.

Wow. And also I found this comment at 8:18 exactly which is really weird since you mentioned it in this comment. Sometimes I wonder about this song...
BLOWING MIND¡
Saw them live last night at The Regency in SF...this song blew my mind and my eardrums....amazing...
Same. Somewhere in my top concert moments of all time, really.

It is exactly how it should be IMO.

Thank you Volvo XC60 for letting me drive from Spain to Portugal following the drums to this song without getting me my wife and dogs killed
Genius tune. Mogwai = frisson. On the other hand... aspect ratio..
There's a video of Rano Pano where the radio guy asks them what's the pronunciation of "Rano Pano" and he says "Whatever, it's just noise".
@Anytime99
actually the song title is ''Mogwai Fear Satan''
pink floyd's legacy...fucking amazing
Andreas Macropulos careful with that axe, Eugene

Yes, I believe you're right. That would have been an even better correction without the incorrect use of a semicolon.
How do I find out if there are subliminal messages in a song?
if you listen well in 4.18 you can hear "potato"
@TokinMystic12
yea...there aren't any lyrics anyways xd
0:00 Normal satisfaction

@A Partsman I refuse to believe they're Scottish let alone Neds unless they're running around with a bottle of Bucky.
