And the forests are simply stunning, even without big views.
Congrats! Exactly! And true about the forest being stunning without the views. It’s not the spectacular mountains, but the woods were cool with the lichen and all.
Thanks for all your great videos and advice. I just completed my first 50km event - pretty big alpine run with 8,000 feet of elevation with some hot weather and wildfire smoke thrown in. I don't think I would have finished without your advice. My heart rate was skyrocketing in the last third during the last few thousand feet of steep ascent, and I felt dizzy and out of it. I was close to an aid station and thought maybe I should DNF. But then I remembered I had tons of time left before the cutoff, and I should just keep eating, drinking, and lie down for a bit and see how I felt then. Like you've advised! Well, I recovered and finished w/ 45 minutes to spare and felt absolutely elated. Thanks and cheers!

What an amazing rainforest! I'm happy to have enjoyed it with dry feet, though. Also, I loved how you switched the millage language when crossing the border. Do you think you could do French/German/Italian at the Mont Blanc?
If I do UTMB, I’ll do km (just like I did for Fuji). Basically I’ll do whatever the race organizers are using. And for speaking Italian or German - sadly I gave up studying them on both …
I *think* she was using Peltz Swift RL Headlamp - same I was using before. Thing with this one is that it often died before the night was over, and those batteries are awkward so not practical to buy an extra. Most headlamp can shine as bright or brighter (I don't have the numbers of lumens handy, but I'd say my Fenix HM65R-T V2 can shine even brighter at highest setting, but just like the peltz, you don't want to use that too much otherwise it'll die). The difference at least so far is the Fenix will last all night, and the batteries are much cheaper so you can carry an extra no problem). My upgrade in terms of headlamp is one that is probably not so noticeable from outsiders perspective, but for me feels like a huge headache is gone. ps: I gave nora a fenix which she used for leadville pacing and she said she liked it...we're probably slowly phasing out the peltz

Amazing video! Great editing, and great work on the race itself to both you and your pacer Nora :). I just told my wife she has about 3 years to train to be my pacer for my first hundred miler. How do you film prior to Nora getting there? Do you just hold the camera in your hands? Or do you use a headmount?
Haha she’ll be ready! I hold the camera in my hand. Film mostly others. It’s a nicer scenery than just filming empty trail. So I actually often either catch up to people or let them take me over on purpose. If there is a nice backdrop sometimes I’ll wait for a few runners too.
It depends on the headlamp and how you use it. Most light you have different intensity - I use the lowest I can while still sufficient to not trip. The Fenix headlamp I used at QMT (model in description) 1 battery was plenty for both night. But I still carry an extra just in case. You should always have a back up light source. The Peltz I was using before on the other hand - the battery would almost always die towards the end of the first night.

Not sure for DNF - only the finishers were listed. But based on the announcers comment ("220ish runners) I’d say about 50% DNF. Not the worst and not the best. 40hr is generous for this course. But conditions were bad!
@runningwithsimon thats awesome. Thank you for the info, and you are right. an empty trail gets boring. Keep up the great work put there !
Oh yeah I wanted to do the 25 kilometters as a novice but learned that these events are sold out 1 year ahead ! Next year then :)
Exactly! Some of these sell out so far in advance (and others you can show up the same day...). Next year then!
A question, how many batteries do you use/need for your headlamp for a night run? (of course depending on how long night it is)
It depends on the headlamp and how you use it.
@@runningwithsimon Thanks for the answer!
J'ai commencé ya 1.5 mois à courrir, 2km daily et je viens d'atteindre le 10km daily (5-6x weekly en fait). Mon plan est tu réalisable?
In one year: first marathon
In two years: trail marathon + 50 miler
In three years: 100 miler
Oui c'est realiste et tres raisonable.
Mon vendredi soir est maintenant réservé 😀
A demain!
Merci pour les commentaires en francais. Je apprends le francais pour m'amuser. Oui, je suis fou!
Nora apprend également!
Note to self:“Don’t go trailrunning in Quebec“.
It’s the perfect excuse to slow down!
I think I would question why to continue. It just doesn't look like fun.
@@ingridsarris4020 i think it’s because it’s never 100% fun or 100% not fun. I had a lot of nice moments. Now, would I prefer to not have the mosquitoes? Sure. Will I stop because of that? No.
The one that was hard to continue was bighorn - I just didn’t feel like it. But now you talk with people, get challenged, etc. There’s always at least something positive.
Hi🎉
Amazing Simon, I'm loving your videos. I subscribed and been giving them thumbs up. Iv probably watched 15 videos last 2 weeks.
How many people DNF this 100 mile race?
