The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

The fact that she hasn't received a Kennedy Center Honor yet is practically criminal!

When you think of all the performers who havent received that honor, and who should have. Its a shame! One of my heroes(Mitch Miller) hasnt received one also. He was more than his sing along show shaping pop music of the 50’s.

Because she was very fortunate by watching her mother as a child working in movies (also learning acting by being with her father directing movies on his sets) ! As a child she learned singing and how to perform on stage from being and watching her mother hundreds of times during her live concerts and other shows. 🤔🤗

So sweet! That great voice, those things so recognizable from her mother, and yet still such a puppy-ish presence ...
I love the routined artist we know so well, but how lovely to see this almost-still-a-child, the budding star.

Liza's first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show. She also sang "Just a Little Joint with a Jukebox" which was posted earlier. I'd also love to see 1930's popular singer Arthur Tracy sing his signature song on this episode, "Marta". Thank you!

Less than 10 years later Liza would emerge as Sally Bowles in "Cabaret." A stunning transformation for this emergent talent.

Why on earth would the truth hurt? Would you say it to her face? Of course you wouldn’t coward. Get a life and some perspective. We all know she’s a great singer and that she’s talented. Let me guess, bitter queen over 50? Try and be nice, even if you’re own life is miserable.

more proof that no child of a Great singer has ever had the talent of their parent.....clearly mediocre singing here and if you didn't see her you would have no idea who is singing......and no Liza does not and has never sounded like her famous mom.....no matter how hard she tried to especially her deliberate facial expressions and affectations of voice

      What a troll.
Of course a seventeen-year-old child of a superstar will sound a bit like her and have some of the same mannerisms. My brother emphasises his points with exactly the same little "hm" as my father did - I don't consider him a fraud for that, just a child of the same parents as me. I called an old friend and was nearly going to start talking about our children before I found out I had her daughter on the phone. And when my mother and I sang together, we sounded like one voice, though mine was a lot better than hers (after many years of daily training).
It's sweet to recognize some things of her mother in this child.
You make it sound like she is cheating her audience, when really, she is doing her babysteps with that great voice (mediocre ... ha! ) and probably, her parents have spared the child the life her mother had, where grown-ups drugged her with uppers and downers to have her ready for stage-use when they needed her, like she was a thing to put in a freezer. So Liza doesn't have the many years of stardom her mother had at seventeen.
But then, she has lived by now already 30 years more than her mother did. Most of us would have liked to have Judy around for that long, too. So thank God and her parents for letting this child debut at seventeen rather than as a seven-year-old, like her mother.
(I don't think Liza was drugged or traumatized for her role as "baby" in her birth year).
