Cerys Matthews, I absolutely love how she keeps her strong Welsh accent when she sings! 👏💜
she's wonderful, the whole band is
My 23 year old daughter just asked me “what was that song you used to play when I was little?” I’m rediscovering all of this stuff, such an amazing nostalgia trip.
born 83 the 90s were really good. the snow was always light and deep. and we would be outside all the time making swings with an old branch and some rope. diving in the river. it was like huckleberry finn and tom sawyer. and if you have nor read them books or audio versions i highly recomend
Yei. It was good time's. Me too born in 83 and turning 40 in autumn...where the hell did time fo😮😂😂
@@Bruce1983 The "snow" was really good lol

Whan you mean what song
Love how she kept the Welsh accent strong when she sang. Great tune from a great era!
Cymru 💪🏼💪🏼
That’s what made them unique - everyone either sounded American or English when they sang
I don't think she could help it, lol
I can't tell. It's just English to me
Good old Melder and Skelly
I'm a 40yr old black South African and I just remembered how I used to jam to this song in the 90s. They can call me a coconut but I enjoyed these songs.
If you can’t be white outside, be white inside. Good on ye.
Love of music transcends every differences we may have, in looks, culture or the amount of melanine in our skin :) Music is universal!
Cerys is a Welsh singer in a land we call 'Cymru' and we have a thing called Belonging, which means if you want to be Welsh, you can be, no matter what colour you are👍
Good for you mate! God bless...
😂😂😂😂
Nineties I miss you.
In so many ways.
They don't miss you buddy
There all around you in your memory. Depending on what your poison was, ha ha ah blessxx🎹🎼
word
Agree.
International Velvet is a classic album. If you have not heard it, treat yourself you are in for a surprise.
I love her accent in this song. Modern pop music needs more regional accents!
Tbh you can’t really change your accent
Modern pop music needs less US trash.
I agree with that though😂
Is she Welsh?
I believe so, I looked into this song because why would a woman be singing about she'd rather drive a MINI-VAN..🤨
The X Files will forever be one of the greatest shows that has been created by mankind.
Agreed. Watched in the 90s as a kid. Loved it then but didn’t remember a whole lot. Rewatched it this year and it’s my favorite show of all time.
Totally. My favorite show with Buffy❤😂!!
X files and sex education are the best series!
By mankind? Did you not suspect it wasn't us humans doing all the creation and leading our direction?
@@beardedchimpThere's always one 😂.
Someone take me back to the 90's , I miss it so much :(
In the 90s I had tons of friends all my family were still with me but as the years go on it's just turning into me being the only one left , getting older surely do suck lol.
I think Music is the closest thing to a time machine we will ever get , listening to this brings so many memories of family BBQ's Birthday parties and other events and not to mention I watched X-Files with my mum and dad every Sunday at 10pm back in the day very good times.
Geeeez, reading this proper depressed me 😞 But only because it's all true!
It only gets worse.
Life 😥
i know what you mean, but you can still find new friends, and maybe bump into some old one's, keep going ❤👍😀
Good times..
When I hear this song it takes me straight back to being a kid, to that great era in my life, its amazing how music can do that, the brain always remembers.
The brain remembers. Just like the north.
Damon Bervoets i have vivid memories of twagging school n listening to this album at my mates house 👍🏻👍🏻 strange glue probably second best tune 👌🏻
Well said. Who's slipped Simon Cowell a fxxxing amnesia pill, or told him he can judge anything other than a glorified Karaoke tournament, TWAT!🎤🎤🎤👍😅
It's all down hill from now on.
I'm a rocker/metalhead through and through but I've never heard of these guys and I admit that I clicked on this while looking for Mulder and Scully(can't say i didn't get what I was looking for) :) ...and didn't expect it to be this good and catchy....definitely will be listening to this guys some more
The only pop star that sings in a Welsh accent as far as i know.
Duffy?
Great memories from 1998 comes with this song for me. I just love Cerys Matthews' performance and her Welsh accent on this track.
Mulder And Scully Song Is My Favourite Song In The Whole World
Saw Catatonia play a small town in North Wales the week this single was released. Excitement in the air, that they finally had a breakthrough single but also a tinge of sadness that they wouldn't be playing such small venues again
wow you must be ancient
Britpop and X files. Oh the 90's ,I miss them!!!!
Cerys was a BIG part of my adolescence. I used to THINK about her a lot. Several times a day sometimes. Until I couldnt THINK about her any more.
I'm a 22-year-old who just started watching the X-Files a few months back and it's my favorite TV show now.
I love this song. I wish I could have been there in the 90s to enjoy it, while the X-Files was in its prime. I think I can confidently say that I missed out on a lot of fun. What a phenomena the X-Files seemed to be!
I felt that way in the '90s about the '70s but time has proved the '90s were ace. I want to go back!
the 90s were absolutely awesome. It was a party, every new years eve we would count down to the year 2000, if you missed the 90s you missed something really beautiful. We had the best music from all the legends of the 80s, 70s, 60s etc, and we got the Internet in the 90s too, everyone was traveling, we all had money, food and a bright future ahead.
You should also check out Bree Sharp’s “David Duchovny, why won’t you love me”. I just found out about that song today and it is brilliant 😂 Smiling ear to ear listening to that song. Ahh I miss the 90’s and all its glory... This Catatonia song was definitely a popular tune back in the day.
On the otherhand you'd be 40 now.
Riguardalo tra una ventina d'anni, avrà ancora un altro sapore!
I used to listen to this song in far 90s on the radio here in Russia, the last time it was in 2006, when I watched this video on VH1. Today I somehow found it, typing "stop doing what you",.. not remembering any words at all. I even didn't expect to find this song after lots of attempts, as Google says, there're many songs with such words!))
Heh yes, I found a song a bit like that too
Me: Rewinds 50 times to see Mulder and Scully even though it’s not them.
Same here
Same !
Quarter of a century old nearly already life was so much different back then. All goes by so quickly, savour every moment, as it's gone in the blink of an eye.
This song reminds me of the best year of my life. I would give anything to have that year again.
I hope that you are happy now Laura
I must agree with you to certain extent, because I remember turning 18 in 1997 and loving every moment of that summer with not one single care in the world. Going to raves first time on the Riviera in France. Going to friends cottages and enjoying my last summer of total freedom before starting my working career. So i had 9 weeks off holiday. This song brings me back to that. By the way i also had my first half serious relationship with a lovely girl, that i thought at the time was way out of my league. Didnt last long but it was a combination of all the good things in life that i got to experience for the first time as an "adult". So I agree with you to certain extent that it was the greatest time of my life. But I have had some extremely wonderful and beautiful periods after that and the last one I'd still going strongly. I have had some insane shiny periods aswel. I have been batling Heroin addiction since I was 28 years old. I was hit by a car when driving a motorcycle to work and had 37 fractures in my body and was in hospital for 3 months getting high doses of morfin and got addictive and was heartbroken on top of it after my first girlfriend and my first love cheated on me on our world travels in Katmandu Nepal. So heroin became a pain relief for my heart and physical pain. Certain the abuse hidden for 5 years from family and friends while going to work stoned. I finally managed to go for treatment at the age of 32. And have had long periods of sobriety and met my now current girlfriend that has stuck by me for almost 6 years. She is the greatest ❤️ human being I have had the honour of meeting. I had a very hard childhood with a father who was a alcoholic and a older brother who is aswel and my brother used to beat me up badly in my teens. So life definitely has its ups and downs. But so worth living and experience it
@@jonashielm1834 I finished school in '97 and that summer was awesome for me too. A golden period for sure.
In this video she was the most beautiful woman I've ever seen...
And with that accent and cracked voice... hypnotized
I love the singer voice, back in the 90's the songs was just better then what we got today in 2022
She has one hell of a voice.
It's a God given gift 🎁
That pair will always be in my heart.
this song still one of my favorite alternative rock song even after 21/22 years passing by..👍🏼🖤😊
This song is going to be played A LOT! X Files is coming back!! WOO HOO!!
LOVE the guitar at the start of this song! ❤🏴
This song always puts a smile on my face, puts me in a happy mood.
its coz its mulder and scully, power couple of the 90's
90's was the best time of my life ever, missed you so much! ❤️
Cery Matthews is a incredible woman what voice she has it still bring back memories when I was 17
I have been singing this song since I was about 5. My mum absolutely loved it and I grew up singing this at festivals and other hippy gatherings. It was today (at 29 years old) I realised the exotic Swedish accent i put on to sing this incredible song, was infact, incorrect. It was today I realised.. she's proper Welsh. They are WELSH. I've been singing this in a Swedish accent for 24 years.
this is still my favorite episode of x files..
what episode is it?
punkypaige hahaha. I meant it as a joke when I commented that. The music video is based off post modern Prometheus though
Did this band even have a tour bus?
@@alex-sh4wb freaking LOVE that ep! so weird so awesome! the vampire one as well with Owen Wilson's brother as the cop but the town is full of vampires but they are bad at being as such hahha

This is so good it hurts
I was 25 when this came out!! Now I feel really old!! Haha ;) Great song, great band, great memories
Happy birthday Scully 🎂 🥳 🎉
!!! when scully and mulder are mackin on each other at the back of the concert 👽🙌💋
I saw Catatonia live in London in the year 1999. Cerys was steaming drunk, but did a brilliant performance. She was like a female Ozzy Osbourne. This track is brilliant. Catatonia did some really memorable, catchy tunes. A great band!
Andy Bee one of the only singers who sounds better live
She did have an alcohol problem back then im sure. Hopefully she is sorted nowadays
Andy Bee Cerys Matthews looks like Debbie Harry and she sings like Kate Bush
Yeah saw them at a couple of festivals. Good live band, I think it was her personality and because they just went for it and enjoyed themselves.
Saw her supporting the Pogues in 2005, in Cardiff. Cracking gig.
Like how she sings ,Scuuullly
If I could pinch any person's voice, this would be my victim! Best pop voice ever. Love.
Her voice is great. She really embraces her welsh accent.
Karen I me too
Pure 90s
One of the best a-b-c pattern reminiscences of the 90's pop Rock.
Voice and accent is amazing, beautiful as well 👍🙂
She's a Swansea girl butty. Butty is mate in English👍
I know this band and I can tell you Mark is one of the most nicest guys you will meet.. ✌️
Fantastic song by an awesome band - takes me right back to good ol days of the 90s ❤️
It was Fresh compilation cassette which made me knew this band for the first time during the change of my childhood to teenage era in Ujung Pandang, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, South East Asia circa 1997. So many great underrated band at that cassette, Cornershop - brimful of asha, suede - beautiful one, mansun ahh I forgot what song, and this catchy one Catatonia - mulder and scully then all of them are constantly played at legendary MTV show named MTV Alternative Nation which their iconic tagline "and we promised NO BOYBAND"
❤❤❤❤
'Stop doing what you keep doing '
Accent is absolutely 💯 amazing sounding in this song!
I love this song... I remember how back in the days I used to play it again and again...
I WANT TO BELIEVE
Trustno1
Been searching for this video since the 90s.
I miss the 90s. One oft the last great lights of Britpop.
This song is nothing without Mulder and Scully.
The '90s were an amazing time to be a teenager.
We're the only generation apart from the '60s that will always be cool ... Although I am surprised that this was late '90s.
My first boyfriend had this on cd. I wasn't allowed to borrow. And then, worst thing is that I used limewire and managed to get the song after four days of waiting. Guess what? It was some stupid guy who recorded himself.😅.
Kit Kat it was the first CD I have ever bought!
@EnglishXnXproud and I lived on a tiny island. All we had was dial up at that time... 😅
With the exception of a few Welsh bands, Oasis, Blur and Pulp, the nineties mostly sucked balls when it came to music...any decade that gave us the Spice Girls and Fucking Robbie Williams needs to be binned and fast.
@@RebelofIreland I'm not having that!
Not only did we have Britpop and Indie, we also had Jungle, Hardcore, House, raves that went on all weekend, you could bring get high inside them and the sound systems could crack the earth, Golden Era Hip-Hop (Wu-Tang, Gang Starr, EPMD, KRS-ONE, Onyx, Naughty by Nature, Tribe Called Quest, Souls of Mischief) as well as great Reggae and even Soca and Calypso ... Kiss FM was still a great station, Sunday nights were about Kool FM.
We had Saturday morning TV, Saturday evening TV, The Big Breakfast, The Word, Spitting Image, sports on terrestrial TV, a golden era of Formula One, 16 bit consoles...
Plus petrol was cheap, there weren't speed cameras everywhere.
The 90's were an AMAZING time to be a kid. It's just sad that it started to go wrong halfway through and officially died when Tony Blair became PM.
1:51 favorite part😍
Wow this song is 17 years old! I was 12 when this and Road Rage were out making me feel old - i always loved her voice, its so unique. I loved the track she did with Space "Ballad of Tom Jones" good ole days!
Can relate, I was about 15/16 when it came out now, im 32 n still love it lol, you ever heard The Joy Formidable? Welsh bamd that are awesome in their own right even tho they are inspired from Catatonia
I was 18 back than, own it on cassette, damn I'm old.
I agree and how I miss those days!. I was 13 when Catatonia were on the scene and I still love their music today as much as I did back then ❤️ A truly great band who bring back wonderful adolescent memories.
The Truth is Out There. You know if you know.
remember my radio days in 1998 playing this song pure nostalgia !!
July 2019, still love this song
Whenever I used to hear a song by Catatonia on the radio as a kid I always thought it was a young boy singing the lyrics like in the Jackson 5. There's something in Cerys Matthews' voice that sounds like a young Welsh choirboy!
"My bed was made for two, and there's nothing I can do!, So tell - me something I don't know!!". Simple but beautiful and TRUE!!!
I remember how hot Catatonia were in 1998. If this album came out now, the music industry is so commercial oriented, no one would care
THank god they are no longer in control as we are the ones with the power now, what with streaming services so we can watch the vids they upload, and iTunes and google play music where indipendant artists can sell their songs without the needs for a record company contract.
@@Dermacrosis This comment is 4 years old so I'll forgive you for not being aware of this at the time, but Spotify and other streaming services are part-owned by the major record labels (including Warner and UMG) and will invest more money in these services as a form of "advertising" - that is, pushing their own signed artists to the top of the "recommended" page. UA-cam is going the same way with their music app. It's all geared against true originality/creativity. These days it's all about the money, and besides, it's hard to appreciate the computerised whining of autotune. Pre-2005 music is best.
Listened to this song in 1998 when I was 11. 20 years later, hear I am still listening to it.
Feckin great stuff !! Who’s here feb 2021
Rhys Ifans!! Why have I only just noticed him?? "Enter the fucking dragon!".
I was a big fan of X-files as a kid and my mam bought me an X-files phenomena book for my birthday written by the lass that married Jonathan ross, and then catatonia ended up on one of my TOTP CDs. Nostalgia is a potent drug it seems....
La podría cantar en un karaoke mil millones de veces sin parar ❤️
Music is the best time machine.
Still a very catchy tune
Jesus it’s a great tune !! Fair play
reminiscing my high school days...when songs still has meaning...
CATATONIA REALLY DID SOME DECENT TUNES COME ON YOU 90s
Loved the Welsh accent ever since I was little. Always found how she says "Skelly" instead of "Scully" hilarious.
I've been rocking the CD lately. 2020 is the perfect time for this song!
Bring back the 90s. Bliss.
The truth is right here.
I'd rather be liberated, I find myself captivated
Stop doing what you, keep doing it too
I'd rather stay bold and lonely, I dream I'm your one and only
Stop doing what you, keep doing it too
Things are getting strange, I'm starting to worry
This could be a case for Mulder and Scully
Things are getting strange, now I can't sleep alone
I'd rather be jumping ship, I find myself jumping straight in
Stop doing what you, keep doing it too
Forever be dozy and dim, I wake myself thinking of him
Stop doing what you, keep doing it too
Things are getting strange, I'm starting to worry
This could be a case for Mulder and Scully
Things are getting strange, now I can't sleep alone
Here my bed is made for two and there's nothing I can do
So tell me something I don't know
If my head is full of you, is there nothing I can do?
Must we all march in two by two by two?
And as for some happy ending, I'd rather stay single and thin
Stop doing what you, keep doing it to me
Things are getting strange, I'm starting to worry
This could be a case for Mulder and Scully
Things are getting strange, now I can't sleep alone here
Things are getting strange, I'm starting to worry
This could be a case for Mulder and Scully
Things are getting strange, now I can't sleep alone
So what have you got to say about that?
And what does someone do without love?
And what does someone do with love?
And what have you got to say about that?

My version: I wake myself thinking of her lol

Chops Sympathy thank u
thnx for typing lyrics for me..in case i am totally deaf..NOT!!!!!
Chops Sympathy I always thought it was " I'd rather be constipated "
Who else didn't appreciate the 1990s enough at the time?
There are moments in which the singer kinda looks like a younger Gillian Anderson.
Been watching X files from the beginning and this song plays in my head at the end of every episode
Sometimes in life things happen and you werent there....Im browsing spotify then came across to this magnificent track....I have
Listened to a toms of hits but somewhere along the way I’m lost and Im ashamed of it....but its bot too late...this is great track! Superb and my LSS!

The unique power that music has is to transport you back in time.
For either good or bad everyone has 'that song, that memory, that happy or sad moment....

Ahhh...90s...
Under 15 2023 teen here. This song has made it into my playlist along with queen, oasis, stereophonics, green day, bon jovi, beatles ect. This is the music style I grew up with oddly. Wish I was born in the 90s, looked like a blast
Fair play to you for actually being honest about what you like, and not simply following the crowd etc!
You're right btw! It was a blast and I miss those days SO badly. For yourself, I'm sure you'll look back in some way, at some stage, the world today, and eventually have some happy and cool memories though 👍... without wanting to sound patronising or like a boring old man, I reckon the people around your age now are the absolute last generation to be brought up in, and live in a half decent world. May not seem like it now, but from what I've seen, things are changing so much that I feel sorry for anyone living in the world from this point onwards. I hope I'm worng though!
Shout out to the 90s 😎
It was.
This song has been in the dark recesses of my mind for more than 20 years, probably even 25.
When I was really young, I remember my sister had a box of CDs she was selling with a label that looked like yellow hazard tape. I think she was selling it as part of a fundraiser?
This is the one song I remembered from it. I wasn't sure I'd ever hear this song again, because I wasn't sure if it was a real song or a song made by an underground local artist for that CD specifically.
I decided to Google 'Mulder and Scully lyrics', since that's the only lyric I remembered. I didn't expect it to be the title.
It's so wild to know this was a real song with a music video and everything.
The indie rock and dance music from the 90’s always gives me strong nostalgia lol getting old now
