Doing Business in the Philippines: two strange legal stories

Two memories flashed back to me this morning while I was reading an expat blog about starting your own business in the Philippines. The place where I lived and the place where I worked out both turned out to be involved in legal battles that struck me as strange. You can take this as a cautionary tale or just random experiences.
To be clear, I'm NOT trying to be negative about the Philippines--I love the country and the people. But I always urge caution when it comes to business and legal issues (wherever you live or plan to live).
